Coconut Pouchong

Melt in your mouth buttery flavor. Makes me want to get a donut. The coconut overpowers the green taste but not in a bad way. Lovely.

I have to start by saying that I’m not a huge coconut fan. I don’t hate it, but I also don’t love it. It’s not something I search for, but I do enjoy it from time to time. I do, however, hate coconut scented things (body lotion, shampoos, etc.), since they just smell fake and nasty to me. :(

But I figured this would be a good tea to go with my Thai leftovers, so I decided to do this one today.

Now, this is an award-winning tea, and I had high hopes for it, even despite my not-loving-coconut-ness. When I opened the packet, a heavenly toasted coconut scent came wafting out, making me really hope that this scent would come across in the tea itself. A bit of the scent, however, did resemble the fakey coconut scent I dislike, but the toasted coconut scent was primary.

Brewed, it smells a bit more like fakey coconut. :( However, the taste is sweet and creamy, with an underlying hint of earthiness that tempers the coconut flavor. I honestly can’t help but like it! It tastes kind of buttery actually.

I’m a bit perplexed on how to rate this. I like it, but I don’t think I love it, and I don’t think it’s something I could have all the time, but it’s still very yummy. Hmm.

My favorite coconut tea. Sweet, natural tasting, delicious, creamy and smooth.

I am having this for the second time and I think my tea palate is developing. I am enjoying the very natural coconut flavor which enhances, rather than covers, the underlying pouchong. It is almost buttery. I am really enjoying it as an after dinner tea.

Amazing, intoxicating aroma, every cup is a treat. I think it’s much tastier than Adagio’s blend. Not quite sure how to brew it to get the maximum flavor, any tips?

I waited to review this one. I’ve been rationing my sample to get the most out of it, because I had to try it three times to make a decision. Because sometimes, when you absolutely love something in the first cup, you grow bored of it after a few weeks.
This is most definitely not the case here.
What can I say that hasn’t already been mentioned? I have quite a fondness for coconut, and a little bit of a love for oolong. This tea is nice and light with just the right amount of coconutty goodness. I love just sticking my nose in the mug to inhale its scent. I took a travel mug with me on my commute, and it kicked my senses into overdrive through the early-morning grogginess.
It’s just fantastic. I’ve succumbed to rambling about its awesomeness rather than writing an actual review.

Continuing sampling I picked the coconut pouchong. Smells lightly of coconut milk. Blends nicely with the pouchong tea.

Dry leaves smell intensely of coconut. Brews up pale gold with the dominant roasted coconut aroma and a subtle grassy note. Has a chewy, full mouth feel with a very noticeable coconut (surprise) flavor along with a carmel sweetness and grassy undertones.A hint of bitterness at the finish. A well balanced flavored tea. Second steeping is much milder.

I’m just finishing off a sampler of this tea that I received from Steepster a while back. This is the first of my Steepster sampler bags that I have finished off. While drinking this, I could get over half a dozen steepings out of this tea throughout the day.

I am usually not a fan of pouchong nor flavored teas, but this one was good. The coconut flavor works really well and makes this a very addicting tea.

If you like coconut and tea then you should try this selection. There is a strong coconut aroma from the leaves and the steeped tea. You get some of that coconut flavor along with the light oolong flavor which is not unpleasant. Where the tea and I begin to disagree is the mouthfeel after swallowing. It is not so heavy to be called oily, but it feels like a coating in my mouth. However, mixed as a cocktail could cut through that and make some amazing drinks. I believe as a standalone tea it is too much for me.
