From Golden Moon Tea

“There’s mystery to the art of finding and freeing the floral aroma and rich flavor of a pouchong tea. But the reasons Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong is noticeably better than others are pretty simple.

Real coconut makes this South Pacific treat buttery, smooth, and sweet.

It’s the unusually long, elegant leaves of this South Pacific delicacy that give the tea its light, slightly floral, and calming taste. As for that hint of tropical sweetness? We’ve got the nectar of young coconuts to thank.

Our Pouchong is grown in the Fujian Province, just outside of the Wuyi Mountains. The farm is located on sunbaked land that is mostly mountainous and is traditionally described to be "Eight parts mountain, one part water, and one part farmland.” That’s how we get a tea leaf with smooth floral notes, a light body, and a sweet finish.
Coconut Pouchong uses only real extract. In order to extract the coconut naturally, we start with real coconuts and roast, shred, and steep them for over one week. We then strain the coconut pieces leaving only pure coconut extract that is both smooth and buttery.

1) Bring fresh, filtered water to 180°F
2) Pour over your tea leaves in a teapot (1 spoonful of tea per serving)
3) Steep 3 minutes
4) Stir, strain, and enjoy!

Not for the everyday, but makes a great iced tea for those times when you want something different.

Oh my. The aroma of this tea is scintillating! Remember those Neopolitan coconut candies made by Brach’s? Well, this is exactly what the unbrewed tea smells like…so sweet it will make your mouth water. This tea brews a light brown liquor that retains a surprising amount of the coconut aroma. The taste is light and kind of funky at the front of the tongue, but full coconut bursts forth at the back of the tongue. Of the coconut teas I’ve tried, this is my fave so far.

When I opened my sample pouch, the decadent scent of coconut immediately caught my attention. I followed the directions on the packet, but within a minute, I could smell a distinct plastic odor coming from my steeping tea. The coconut smell diminished and became more of a vanilla suggestion.

I allowed it to steep for three minutes. (The recommendation on the packet was 2-4 and as I’m relatively new to loose leaf tea, I didn’t want to overdo it.) The tea wasn’t bitter at all. It’s a beautiful light color. However, the plastic was evident in the taste as well. Not so much the sip of tea, but more in the aftertaste. I’m not certain if this is intentional and that I’m mixing up the coconut in the tea with plastic, but I’m not enjoying it as much as I had thought and hoped that I would.

This is my first experience with Pouchong. It could be something that I did, but I’m disappointed.

I’m not a fan of flavored teas and this one has a strong coconut flavor, not too sweet, but weak, I couldn’t taste the tea. It smells nice, though. The bag says it is made with green leaves, I couldn’t tell green or black.

I like this tea in the summer on very hot days. Easy to in pitcher amounts, the coconut provides a smoothness not found in other tea.

Thirst quenching and delicious.

This makes up for my last tea. The cup is quite pale, the scent is a strong coconut cookie. It smells so good. It tastes somewhat like a coconut cookie too but not as intense. There is smooth, buttery, lightly sweet with coconut mixed in. I don’t see myself drinking this everyday or even that often but as a nice dessert tea here and there it has potential. I’m going to try a second steep and take it to my lecture with me.

I was so looking forward to this, but— The dry leaves smell wonderful, exactly like toasted coconut macaroons (thanks, takgoti!) However, it is a strange brew. The aroma is vegetal fighting with coconut. The flavor is buttered spinach—with coconut—not necessarily a complementary combination. My daughter asked “what’s the weird smell”—additionally not a good sign. In any event, I’m a bit bummed, as my expectations were high but sadly unmet.

My first taste of this tea… It is fantastic! Based on a tea between a green and oolong tea, the pouchong tea is oxidized only 10-20%. The infusion of coconut flavoring results in a really nicely balanced blend that is mildly sweet and quite refreshing! I will have to order up a canister of this tea.
