From DAVIDsTEA

We take French toast very seriously around here. Which is why we created this sweet and buttery cardamom-spiced black tea with a dusting of cinnamon and cane sugar. It’s rich. It’s spicy. And it tastes just like the decadent breakfast of our dreams. Only this is one brunch tea you’ll be craving all day long.

Black tea, cinnamon, lemon peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, coconut sugar, cane sugar, natural and artificial flavouring

I was having a bit of a crummy day today so I was hoping today’s tea would be one of those comforting, yummy, ‘feel-good’ teas. I sampled this tea as part of the 24 days of tea advent calendar, and to be honest I had mixed feelings about this one. I’m not a huge fan of cardamom, and the scent of it along with some other spices, was so strong when I took the lid off. Dry, I could smell cardamom, with a zesty hint of cinnamon muffled in the background.

While I was waiting for my tea to cool down a bit, I got distracted and didn’t get to it until it was cooler than how I usually drink my teas. I went in with really low expectations and was actually quite surprised with the taste. It was sweet and buttery, and had a hint of spice in the background. It wasn’t that overpowering kind of spice that just takes over the entire tea. It was gentle and subtle, and more sweet and buttery than spicy. It really did remind me of french toast.

I’ll have to brew another cup of this and try it hot, as it may taste totally different. The trick to enjoying this tea may be to drink it slightly cooler than warmer.

This tea has an odd taste, not sure if it is the cardamom or what. It’s pretty bad. I’m glad I bought the minimum on this tea.

I brewed this once in a Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 4 min.

At first this tea tasted like any other chai tea, most of which I am not a fan. It was heavy on the cardamom and spiciness, and I added a teaspoon of sugar to cut through it (later I will try adding milk instead, but wanted to taste the tea as is first). It was still a bit too spicy but it wasn’t terrible. However, once it began to cool, the magic really happened and the flavors really shined. At a slightly cooler temp, the spice sort of gets toned back a bit and those buttery, bread-like flavors really start to shine through. Turns out I really enjoy this tea, and I’m really eager to try it with milk and/or as a latte.

Pretty much tastes like a piece of French toast with cardamom, coriander and lemon on it. The coriander, lemon, and cardamom notes are strong. I did not add any sweetener or milk. Drank it hot. I would recommend it, but I think you should try a cup in the store first if you live near one.

I thought this tea would undersell when I bought it, but surprisingly, I love it. It’s definitely got the cake/bread thing going on, with a bit of sweetness, and definitely the cardamom. Not normally a flavor I’d reach for, and yet, this is strangely and wonderfully comforting. It’s nothing that I’ll HAVE to have, but it’s lovely while it’s here.

TeaBrat

yum. I love cardamom but trying to resist the urge to buy more tea!

Rosehips

I agree. This was an unexpected hit with me as well.

I picked up a half ounce of this yesterday after seeing the rave review from Sil. It’s good – it tastes exactly like french toast, it’s got the sweet, bready flavor to it with a bit of cinnamon and spice. I’m impressed with how close the flavor is.

That being said, this tea is what reminded me that I don’t even like french toast. So it’s good, but not my cuppa.

This tea smells so so good, and even when steeping I was all excited that it was going to be so delicious, but it didn’t deliver. All the sweetness in the smell didn’t show up in the taste. I mean, it was still good, just not as good as I wanted it to be. I’d like to try it as iced and in a latte though!
