From DAVIDsTEA

We take French toast very seriously around here. Which is why we created this sweet and buttery cardamom-spiced black tea with a dusting of cinnamon and cane sugar. It’s rich. It’s spicy. And it tastes just like the decadent breakfast of our dreams. Only this is one brunch tea you’ll be craving all day long.

Black tea, cinnamon, lemon peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, coconut sugar, cane sugar, natural and artificial flavouring

One of the 24 days of teas I didn’t try on time. I technically can’t have black tea but I’m having a few gulps of this to try it out.

Yep, cardamom French toast indeed! Dunno how they captured the flavor of French toast, but it’s nice :). wish I could actually drink black tea so I could enjoy this more often :/. Oh well, I have lots of tea to use up.

Hi Steepster friends!
I haven’t been here much lately as I am not trying a lot of new things lately, most of the tea I’ve been drinking is stuff I am trying to sip down or old favorites I’ve already written tasting notes for.

I’m not a big David’s tea fan but I do love cardamom so I got some of this the last time I was in the store. I have enjoyed this as a breakfast tea most of the time with soymilk added. It definitely has a strong cardamom flavor, so if you don’t like cardamom I would skip this. I’m not sure I’m getting french toast but there is something buttery and pastry like in the flavor.

The only bad thing about this in my opinion is the very sweet after taste. I definitely don’t mind it as much as some of the other tasters did. I wonder if they could have just made this without the added sweetener, after all it’s easy enough to add your own.

Overall, this is better than I thought it would be but I probably won’t repurchase it.

Wow they added cane and coconut sugar here. Yikes!

Sil

yeah i’m so tired of them adding sugar and stevia to everything

Dustin

You like cardamon? Have you tried the Kashmiri Chai yet? It is one of my favorites!

TeaBrat

@Dustin – who makes the Kashmiri Chai? David’s or someone else?
@Indigobloom @Sil – yeah I mean, why!

Indigobloom

Yup. My thoughts exactly. Whyyyyyy!

Dustin

Oh, I’m sorry! I should have clarified that. It is David’s as well. Zhi Tea used to have once that tastes exactly like David’s, but they discontinued it years ago because they weren’t able to keep getting the ingredients from an organic source. I’m super happy to have it back in my cupboard via David’s!

OMG…It’s been almost a year since my last review!

How did that happen?!

Anywho…I got some interesting new teas from Davids Tea, Of course not all the ones I wanted…I just couldn’t justify spending like $300 on 1 tea buy, not with wanting to make a buy at both Quarter to Tea and FusionTeas. But…I might be inclined to make another Davids tea buy for my birthday in March;)

OK…on to this tea:

I’ve tried quite a few teas in general these last few years….not many of them have lived up to their name. This one kind of does…I like it, and I will enjoy drinking the rest…but I don’t see myself buying another bag. I still feel like a tea has to really WOW! me in order to justify the prices…though did buy enough to qualify for the free shipping and plan on doing that in the future as well. It’s been a while since I’ve had it, but the taste reminds me alittle bit of Glitter and Gold, which I loved when I 1st had it, but for some reason turned unappealing.

Neutral on whether or not I would recommend this tea.

Could this tea be more temp sensitive then what the label indicated?

This tea always amazes me at how accurate it smells. Today I am having it as a hot latte and it also tastes pretty accurate. The egginess is what always shocks me and though I enjoy it, I think it is also what keeps me from coming back to this tea. I am not sure what it is because it tastes awesome but the thickness needed to convey a proper french toast just makes this tea heavy for me.

Fjellrev

I just had this the other day too and was reminded of how awesome it is.

Sil

you made my day by adding a little of this to my bag of delights

I adore this tea. I went to visit a friend at the mall for a tea and chat. I ordered this tea because it sounded intriguing and smelled wonderful. We were chatting and I lost track of time of when I was supposed to take out tea bag. I was a little worried because it was way past the 5 minutes I usually brew my black teas but I tried it and loved it. So I decided to keep it in the whole time. It was delicious till the last drop! I went back to DT after and purchased some to make at home which was equally as good.

*Update: Tried this one as a hot tea latte and it was drinkable. Would not make it again that’s for sure.

I really like this tea, although it is much sweeter than what I usually drink (I don’t add sugar to my tea). The added sweetness is the only thing I don’t like about this tea. Otherwise, the flavours are great. I added a splash of milk and sipped this one on a cold afternoon while it was snowing outside – and it was splendid.

The dry leaf mixture smells so good! I couldn’t wait to try it. I decided to add some agave nectar and milk for a real treat. It didn’t taste quite as good as it smelled dry but that’s not saying that it didn’t still taste good because it did. I enjoyed my cup and did a re-steep after. It reminds me of this cardamom ice cream that President’s Choice used to have a few years ago that I also liked. The cardamom is at the forefront with different spices bringing up the rear. I like it. Perfect for winter time and its cold weather. I can see this one being quite the crowd pleaser.

At first I was apprehensive about this tea. I got it as a free sample from DT and I LOVED IT. It’s a black tea and has a wonderful sweetness to it with a bit of spice. I would definitely buy again!!

Last night my hubby and I went into the David’s Tea at Scarborough Town Centre and milled around there for quite a bit. See, I really want to limit my tea purchases this year since I already have a fuckton of tea at home, but they just released their new lineup of teas yesterday, as well as their new teaware.

One of the new Perfect Mugs has CATS on it. Goddamn, I am weak, so I bought it.

And I bought a cat-shaped tea infuser.

And some Alpine Punch rooibos on discount.

And some Banana Nut Bread on discount.

And I got this tea for free as my Frequent Steeper reward.

So much for my discipline, eh? Not even a week into the new year, and I’ve already spent nearly $50.

Anyways, I had some Cardamom French Toast this morning. It’s amazing how there’s really this rich, eggy flavour to the dry leaf. There’s also a hint of something sour and creamy like cream cheese that I quite like. I rarely take my tea with milk and sugar, but I think it would work very well here.

By the way, here’s the new mug with colour-changing kitties! So cute! https://www.instagram.com/p/BAM5X3axIY9/

Nice cup!

I like this tea a lot. I’ve been craving it for several days now and I’ve got some here somewhere. It seems to have wandered off.

My excuse for spending way too much money at DT the other day is that it was all 40% off. The new stuff hadn’t come in yet.

None of the new teas have inspired me though I haven’t tried any yet. Did you like any of them?

Indigobloom

Dawww so cute, love that!! I have a colour changing mug from them as well. Beware, they are stickers, so no dishwashers or super hot water. Or metal brillo pads on the outside. Hardy stickers, but mine is already scratched (someone put it into the dishwasher and a knife poked through from the bottom to second level, I’m just glad I caught it before the load ran!)

Christina / BooksandTea

@Ness: I smelled the new teas, but haven’t tasted them. To be honest, they aren’t that interesting to me, though I may change my mind if I have a chance to taste them as teas-of-the-day within the store. I remember thinking the mango-turmeric one smelled really weird.

@Indigobloom: That’s why I’m sticking to drinking this at work, since there’s no dishwasher and I rarely reheat my tea in the microwave. I know that if I left it at home, it would end up in the dishwasher at some point and I don’t want to risk it.

Plus, the colour-changing decals act as a great signal that I need to finish drinking my tea before it cools down – I wish I had realized the benefit of them before.

Roswell Strange

@Ness, I picked up four of the new ones (somehow missed the Fennel one, though I’d have liked to try it) and will write notes for ‘em eventually. The Buchu Superfruit smelled REALLY good, imo. Mango Turmeric is the one I’ve got cold brewing right now.

Indigobloom

yeah that is an excellent idea! I work from home mostly so I have no choice haha. Mine is holiday themed, candy canes… so I should probably retire it for the year soon. Maybe in a few weeks

Nicole

Cute mug!

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you!

It just so happens that I passed by DT today and tried a sample of Mango Turmeric. I liked it, so I bought a bit to make at home and a few of the others in minimum quantity. The Buchu Superfruit did smell good, but I find DT fruit blends VERY tricky, some are divine and some are not even slightly. So, we’ll see. I look forward to what you make of it.

I get a tiny bit of French toast notes but it is heavily covered up by cardamom. I looked in my infuser and there are lots of pods in there…and not much left in my bag…oops. I guess I didn’t shake the bag enough and the pods must have all been at the top. I didn’t get much cinnamon either.
I will have to try this again sometime when I am awake enough in the morning to shake the bag!
