From DAVIDsTEA

We take French toast very seriously around here. Which is why we created this sweet and buttery cardamom-spiced black tea with a dusting of cinnamon and cane sugar. It’s rich. It’s spicy. And it tastes just like the decadent breakfast of our dreams. Only this is one brunch tea you’ll be craving all day long.

Black tea, cinnamon, lemon peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, coconut sugar, cane sugar, natural and artificial flavouring

Ahh, Sunday morning.
Its been a long and busy week! Even yesterday was a day full of mad running around. I have a ton of errands to run today, and go to the gym, but its a much quieter set of events than have been happening for the rest of the week.
So I get to sit, wrapped in my robe, sipping at this tea today.
This has got more cinnamon than I remember from last years version, but I still quite like it. And a pot of it, with a pretty tea cup and saucer, is a very good way to start the day!

Evol Ving Ness

Gah! They’ve increased the cinnamon in this?!

Sil

not sure that the cinnamon has been upped…might just be the mix ratio? It’s hard to get a consistent cup with all the sugar :(

Rosehips

I don’t know if they’ve upped the cinnamon, just what I felt from that particular cup.

CelticBrew

Haven’t reviewed this one yet, but I really enjoy it!

I made this tea again this morning and did a two minute steep. I also used 1.5 tsp instead of 2 tsp. I completely forgot how sugary this already was and added Truvia out of habit. OMG, this is soooooo sweet! Despite the sugar overload accident, I can already tell this tea is better. It takes exactly like icing on a cinnamon bun.

Mmm! This is much more to my liking. In fact, this is really good! It just goes to show you, leaf quantity and infusion time really do contribute to making a good cup of tea. It doesn’t taste like French toast but who doesn’t love cinnamon buns complete with hot, dripping icing? I know I do. Raising the rating from 78 to 82.

I decided to have this as my morning tea today at work, and while I was pouring the hot water in, THREE separate people in our kitchen asked me what it was because it smelled so great.

The scent is ABSOLUTELY heavenly, I use a larger mug (16 oz) so I used 3 tsp of the tea.

Now that I am actually DRINKING the tea- I am even more in love. It has just enough sweetness from the cane sugar, and definitely reminds me of the French Toast my dad made me growing up.

Going to have to buy this one IN BULK for sure. (*Edit: The winter teas including this one from Davids are on sale right now- 20% off! Nov 20-22nd only!)

I got this tea in the Winter Collection box. I’m slowly making my way through each tea, deciding whether or not I like each one.

This one was the first I tried, and in all honesty, I wasn’t sure how much I liked it. I made it again today and each sip makes me giddy. I have no idea what cardamom tastes like, but I’m sure that comes through, and paired with the cinnamon, I definitely get the feel of a french toast. I’ve sweetened the tea with both honey and agave nectar and found that agave nectar really brings out the coconut and cane sugar.

Overall, I’m really enjoying this tea in the morning and I definitely see how it fits into the Winter Collection.

i rather enjoy this tea….to the point where i think i should pick up a bit more before it goes away, but then i can’t help but wonder if i’ll get tired of the taste, since i don’t usually love david’s teas enough to go through 100g+ Still though, i need to try this one as a latte since that’s apparently the way to do it heh

Kristal

If you like it as a latte you may end up going through the 100g+ very quickly ;)

Sil

i think subconsciously, that’s what i’m afraid of haha

Sil

I’ll have to try it today though since double points is happening right now for purchases

Kristal

I saw that! Thing is I’m working from 9-9 today (although, I do have a 2h break between 3-5…) and I don’t really “NEED” anything. I could get more banana nut bread though for lattes…

Kristal

But then again, I do only need 39 more points until free tea, which would only mean $20 purchase…

Fjellrev

When I got the email, I thought to do the exact same thing: try this tea again and make up my mind.

Sil

heh. great minds think alike

Sil

i have 27 points, so likely not worth it for me to buy anything since they all get reset in january (which i think is stupid)

Fjellrev

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. The reset almost discourages a person from buying, in a sense.

Sil

yeah. better for me to just wait and see if i can get more january 1st

Kristal

I also agree the reset in January is stupid. I can understand when you get the free tea offers how they expire after a few months, but to erase your points every year is kind of a scam. You could have 99 point ($99 of purchasing) which would count for nothing.

OMGsrsly

Yeah, last year I had about 90 points and didn’t buy anything else and lost them all. I think I’ve spent $20 in DavidsTea this year though. They totally lost me as a customer.

tigress_al

How do you know how many points you have?

OMGsrsly

They used to mail out links to the points thing? I have no idea how it works now.

Sil

Just sign in to your account. Used to be you had to ask for the link, now you just sign in

Alyssa

What?! I never got the email for the double points thing. I guess it’s because I have their newsletters turned off lol. I’d better fix that.

Alyssa

I checked and my subscription preferences were that I should receive their promotional emails. Maybe I should email them.

Exactly the thing after my extended oolong session of the day. Cinnamon, vanilla, custard, and a firm backbone.

I’m continuing to enjoy this one with eggnog for the time being; I still think that’s the way to drink and enjoy this tea. In fact; it’s grown on me so much that I’ve cleared out tin space for it to add it to my stock of DT blends for every day drinking…

It’s funny; I’ve never really thought of myself as a fan of cardamom but this is certainly challenging my view on that spice. I blame Sil.

Tabby

Still meaning to try this one day!

Roswell Strange

I don’t like it much plain, to be honest. I find it a little drying/astringent. But with milk or eggnog to soften it I think it’s REALLY good. I do recommend getting a small sample next time you have a chance; imo it’s one of the few standout teas from the last few years’ seasonal collections.

Sil

I love cardamom! :) Glad you’re having fun with it.. i LOVE it as a latte…

Seeing this tea in store immediately reminded me of 52Tea’s Coconut French Toast w/ Cardamom Maple Syrup, and as much as I like supporting small businesses, the Canadian dollar still sucks, and I was thrilled at the idea of easy, inexpensive access to a similar tea.

I actually like the smell of this one more than 52Tea’s Coconut French Toast, I find it stronger and sweeter, but I feel like it’s missing the egg-y french toast taste that 52Teas nailed. I preferred the 52Teas base tea as well.

Overall I like it, it’s definitely one of the better teas I’ve had from David’s, and I’ll probably pick up some more to tide me over until whenever Coconut French Toast w/ Cardamom Maple Syrup gets re-blended and I can purchase more.

I will admit – I don’t think I’ve ever eaten French toast in my life, LOL. As a result, I have no idea if this is comparable to the food. I had this for breakfast this morning (black teas are my fave!), and I added some milk, thinking it might bring out the sweetness a little more than if I just drank it straight. And mmmm, this was delicious. Warm and comforting, sweet and spicy… Thumbs up on this one, for sure.

keychange

Ah yeah! I take this with milk and sugar and it’s delish!
