From DAVIDsTEA

A sweet romance

We’re still searching for the secret to eternal bliss, but we’re pretty sure one cup of this blend will get you at least five minutes’ worth. It all starts with the very best leaves: a premium oolong from China’s Fujian Province called Huang Jin Gui. A popular wedding gift in China, Huang Jin Gui is prized for its pretty yellow colour and romantic floral scent. Here we bring out this special leaf’s orchid aroma with a touch of vanilla. The result? A perfectly balanced, subtle cup that’s equal parts rich, creamy and floral. Feeling blissful yet?

Ingredients: Huang Jin Gui Oolong from Anxi in Fujian Province, natural vanilla flavouring.

Wow, I haven’t had time to brew a cup of tea in ages! But I have a steaming mug now and it feels so right. The post-doc I work with even painted me a new mug so I finally have a chance to christen it with this vanilla orchid sample I got.
Very subtle vanilla taste, but a whole lot of creaminess. Tastes very earthy but clean and light.
Bottom line: would probably try again and would consider buying a 50g bag if not for my fickle curiosity in trying a whole lot of different DT flavors.

Edit: With each gulp I’m realizing how good this stuff really is. I might have to add this to my shopping list after all!

Wow. WOW. It’s been a while, and I’ve been off drinking all sorts of fancy sprinkly chocolate jellybean marshmallow teas, and that’s been fun, but David’s have finally wowed me with a (fairly) straight tea.

I smelled Orchid next to Vanilla Oolong in the large wall tins at the store, and I said to the girl helping me that (for me) it was like the difference between smelling a fresh vanilla bean pod and smelling the yellow vanilla section of the big strawberry/chocolate/vanilla icecream combo packs (sorry, Vanilla Oolong fans): Orchid is fresh, natural and just so creamy, with none of that artificial vanilla taste that makes me run a mile.

Apparently this is a higher grade of oolong than the one used in Vanilla Oolong as it’s more tightly knotted. Steeped up for a good 5 mins, the oolong comes through light and delicate and the woodiness of it stops the vanilla-beam aroma from being too sickly sweet. Gorgeous.
