From DAVIDsTEA

A smile a sip.
One sip of this sweet, rich rooibos blend and you’ll know spring is right around the corner. It could be the sunny taste of pineapple, or the exotic creaminess of coconut. It could be the pretty calendula and cornflower petals. Then again, it might just be the jellybeans. You heard us right, jellybeans – that’s what gives this tea its irresistibly sweet and fruity kick. So why do jellybeans remind us of spring? Because they make us happy. Why else?

I thought I was getting a good deal by buying 50g (an entire tin’s worth due to how light it is) for $3 after Easter last year. I’ve had it over a year and just can’t get through it. I don’t even like it. Creamy chalky texture, sugared pineapple and coconut, a weird mineral powder (dust from rocks) taste. Some undertone of pear that was completely unwelcome. It just doesn’t go together at all, and I hate how rooibosy it is because this blend might have worked as a green.

However, I WILL get through this tea. Only 30g left to go. .

I almost sent you more of this. Glad I didn’t.

Hehe I was hoping I could send you some but then you said you had the DT blends that I did.

Man, I was so excited to try this tea and finally ordered it online. However, it disappointed me…the smell and taste of it was just meh. It’s drinkable and that’s about it for me-It’s almost flavorless or it’s so old it has lost its flavor or something. I might have to try it double strength next time and steep it longer than the 5 minutes.

*I tried this as an iced tea latte thinking that maybe agave and milk would make it better. I was so wrong…

I bought this in March when it was re-released for Easter. I never tried it the first go round, but it intrigued me enough to order 100 grams. I really like jelly beans and there’s a nice candy-fruity aroma that blends nicely with the rooibos in the package. It’s quite pretty in the package actually with violet petals mixed in with the occasional colourful jellybean and rooibos needles. It’s also quite the ingredient list with pineapple, strawberry, coconut, calendula petals, blue cornflowers, sunflower petals as well as peach concentrates, banana puree, kiwi juice concentrate, mango puree and juice concentrate. I’m guessing the puree and juice concentrates are for the jelly beans themselves. Brewed up it has a nicely rich rooibos flavour with some mildly fruity and tropical accents. I can’t pick out any particular fruit flavour but it was still a rather enjoyable blend overall.

A teapal sent me a few teaspoons of this to try. Sadly, I couldn’t finish the cup. Rooibos on its own is not my friend. It’s such a pity because it had such wonderful fruity flavor (predominantly strawberry and pineapple flavors to me). There were quite a few jellybeans in my sample, so that was a pleasant surprise, especially after reading that so many people didn’t have any jellybeans in their bags. I’m glad I got to try it to see what all the fuss was about, but I’m not upset that I don’t care for it. So many of DT’s blends are a miss for me lately.

I remember having this like 4 years ago when it first came out. I remember not liking it because I didn’t have an jellybeans in my 15isg gram sample. Maybe I should retry this!

apieceofquiche

Lots of folks have purchased the 100g (in special packaging) and there weren’t any jellybeans (or just one) in the entire 100g, so YMMV.

Kristal

Oh wow! If I do buy some ill specifically ask them to make sure there’s some jellybeans in my purchase.

I got this tea as a gift, just a little sample bag, and I was excited to give it a try. The ingredients listed pineapple, coconut, strawberry, and I was ready for a big cup of tropical fruit.

I ended up with sweet swamp water.

First off, the smell I get from the dry tea is almost medicinal, like cherry cough syrup. I managed to get 3 blue jellybeans in my cup, and the water turned a murky green-blue with a film on the top. The blueberry, or whatever it might have been, jellybeans made the tea a cup of conflicting flavours and sadness. I drank a few sips, and had to dump the tea.

That being said, it sounds like it should be delicious. I am going to try this tea again, but remove the jellybeans and for a straight brew of tea.

The first non-Adagio rooibos of the day from the Herbal TTB.
Weak. Tart. Kind of jellybean-flavored. Mostly fruity.

albertocanfly

That’s about what I thought about this tea.. strangely, when it cooled, the flavors were amplified a little bit..making it much better…but it still had less flavor than I was expecting, too.

Spencer

Hmm, I might have to consider another cup – cold this time.

Have you ever experienced the splendor of having two traveling tea boxes in your possession at one time?? :O This is my life right now. I can’t believe that it is real. Oh my goodness gracious, I think that I may have just died and gone to tea drinker’s heaven. . For being my first TTB experience, Steepsters, you have blown me out of the park! There is so much joy just radiating from the house right now…but it does take a certain skill to dance about the house without spilling hot tea all over oneself. But, by the end of the day, I just may have it mastered. I think our dog believes that I have completely lost my bananas. Ohhhh, yesss. . So please excuse me as I enjoy my massive tea fest and flood your dashboard with my adventures. :P

Jelly beans in tea…hmm.. what an interesting concept. But why not? Teas have sprinkles in them all the time. After all, today is the day of so much tea, might as well start it off with a bang!:P I ended up getting a jelly belly in my sample scoop-an A&W cream soda one to boot, my favorite! After steeping it…the tea didn’t seem to have too much flavor to me. Very light of coconut and vanilla. Kind of surprising. I expected a much bolder taste. It tastes good, just wish the flavor was amplified a bit. while writing this note, the tea cooled There is the flavor I was looking for! Vanilla, coconut, and maybe even a hint of pineapple. So much better! Yum! Still a little soft on flavor but still a nice tea.

Sipdown!! (174)

Thank you Faith for the opportunity to try this tea. I am grateful for the chance but not exactly sad to see this go. The jelly beans cause an almost waxy experience that I am just not loving. Oh well. C’est la vie.

Fatty says: NOT SWEET ENOUGH! This is a rooibos with coconut, pineapple, and jellybeans. Cute, and I dig the novelty factor, but all things considered, I find it rather bland. I sweeten almost all of my tea anyway, so the jellybeans are just kind of superfluous for me. I’d rather consume my sugar as sugar, and not in bean form. Meh.

The smell of this tea is more appealing than the actual taste of this one so far. I had gotten the tin and there does not appear to be any jelly beans to be found.
