This blend is cozy and comforting, like a campfire. Smoky lapsang souchong blends with creamy black tea and vanilla oolong to create a taste just like a toasted marshmallow from a campfire.
I created this blend at home and loved it, so I hope this blend from Adagio works out too. The smoky taste should be subtle (10 percent) with the marshmallow cream taste (20 percent black cream and 50 percent vanilla oolong) overpowering it. NOTE: I updated this blend on 2/4/11, after trying the original 30 (lapsang souchong) blend. This new version should be even more marshmallow-y and less smoky. While I enjoyed the original blend, I think this one is truer to the name. NOTE: I notice a lot of people having issues with the flavor – be very mindful of following brewing instructions for oolong. Don’t steep longer than five minutes or else it will be a cuppa smoke.

Appearance and aroma of dry leaf: Smells awesome, with notes of tobacco and chocolate! Small and medium sized broken bits of tea leaves and a few other lighter colored bits.
Brewing guidelines: Brewed in my largest tea ball (I do most, if not all, flavored teas in a ball/basket, to help keep all of the pieces together) in my glass Bodum. 6 rounded tsp, 6 cups of water. Stevia added.(I thought this was a black tea/rooibos tea blend based on how it looked and smelled, so I went with boiling temperatures).

Color and aroma of tea liquor: mild chocolate-y and tobacco-y aroma; a dark, chocolate-brown color.
Flavor of tea liquor: Roasted, chocolate-y, with notes of tobacco.
Appearance and aroma of wet leaf: it looks like what I would call ‘medium-grade’ chopped leaf.
Value: reasonable on Adagio’s website for a flavored tea.
Overall: When I emailed the creator of this tea inquiring as to the base tea used in this flavored blend, she stated that the base was an oolong with a bit of Lapsang Souchong; I was surprised that there was not any rooibos in it, as to me, this tea has aromas and flavor notes very similar to my experience with brewing up rooibos. I am guessing the vanilla oolong is what gives it that tobacco-y taste (which is a good thing; I happen to love that tobacco-y smell and taste rooibos seems to have). In her response to my query her recommendations were to use a little cooler temp (195 F) than the temps had I already brewed it in, so I may have slightly scorched the leaves (but it didn’t taste like it to me). I’m not certain whether or not it tastes like toasted marshmallow, but overall, I enjoyed it’s unusually—and tasty—flavor (and it still had decent flavor even on the third steeping); I think the things I liked the most about this tea were the aromas: chocolate and tobacco!
Clever way to evoke toasted marshmallows! This tea is fun to try. The lapsong is a complement rather than front forward, so folks who shy away from strong smokiness have nothing to fear here. Brewed one cup plain and another with added almond milk, which seemed to water it down rather than enhancing it. Just a little astringency on the finish. I’m picking up almond flavor, as well. Folks who are drawn to flavored teas would probably rate this much higher.
I am not sure how much I liked this. Perhaps I would rename it burned marshmallow… The smokey flavor really was prevelant for me. It reminded me of drinking tea while sitting at a campfire (in the smoke) I would perhaps drink this again, but not regularly
“I liked the idea of a lapsang souchong blend because plain lapsang can be too strong for me. Mixing with the vanilla oolong and the black cream is such a good idea. The tea really does smell like a campfire but I was hoping for a stronger marshmallow element. I ended up adding some soymilk and a bit of vanilla extract which definitely helped bump up the flavor a bit
