From 52teas

Just in time for Halloween! We’ve blended Young Hyson and Gunpowder green teas, freeze-dried blueberries and organic flavors to create the most amazing blueberry cotton candy flavored green tea EVER. I will NOT be able to reblend this one right now, as this used up the last of my green teas for the moment, so don’t miss out!

Our Tea of the Week for the week of October 8, 2012

This tea truly is pretty incredible. The second I opened the bag, I could tell exactly what the flavor was meant to be… blueberry candy. I’m not used to drinking green tea, so the tan-peach brewed color made me nervous, but there was no need to be… this tea was delicious! The level of sweet flavor was a bit low for a cotton candy dupe, but a pinch of stevia picked it right up and brought out the candy floss notes in the flavor. The blueberry doesn’t exactly taste like a real blueberry – it tastes more like eating a really good (but artificial) blueberry gummy bear – the perfect blueberry taste for cotton candy!

You can still taste the green tea base beneath the flavors, but it doesn’t overpower or clash with the cotton candy flavors at all. And I love the way 52teas blends seem thicker than regular water or tea – just slightly, but enough to add some character to the mouthfeel.

This is hands down the best blueberry tea I have had to date. I am very fond of Gunpowder green tea which adds a perfect smokiness to the sweet blueberry flavor which is not overpowering and is more of a lingering note in the background.

Attack of the sugary berry as soon as I open the bag! Once steeped the smell mellows out a bit. It’s a little bland before I add sugar, but the aftertaste is distinctly berry/candy like. I’m finding a lot of 52teas need sugar (sometimes more sugar than I normally use) to make make the flavor taste right. What is cotton candy without the sweet, right? The green tea is present in the aftertaste and mellow, but isn’t very detectable in each sip. I’d have to sum it up as an amusing light sweet treat.

I have a large pouch of this to tinker with, so that’s good. Because my first cup of this hasn’t been a success, but I know I may have ruined it somehow, as word on the street is that this tea is notoriously finicky. The flavouring in here is rather faint and artificial, although that can be forgiven because cotton candy isn’t exactly a naturally occurring taste, but somehow it just doesn’t all come together for me. I added in a bit of rock sugar, which may have been an accident because this tea already seems quite overwhelmable. I do tend to like teas that can withstand a bit of a beating because I can’t always ensure perfection in every aspect of brewing, plus I like to be able to consistently expect the same thing. That said, I am going to try this again and not in a travel mug that can mute flavours at the best of times. I am also coming to the slow realization that is very rare for me to really enjoy a green tea, so there’s that.

This is a review of the recently reblended version of this tea. It is very delicious, though I enjoy it best when it is cold. It has strong flavors of both blueberry and cotton candy. The aroma is also very sweet and reminiscent of Halloween treats. I love how this tea is filled with freeze-dried blueberries. It’s a fun blend and gives me an opportunity to indulge in dessert without the guilt.

I’m currently sipping on a reblend of this tea. It was reblended as a fulfillment of a “You Choose the Reblend” reward.

It turned out pretty darned good if I do say so myself. It’s been a while since I’ve had the original blend – and I did use a slightly different blend for a base, instead of a blend of Young Hyson & Gunpowder I used my blend of organic Chun Mee & Gunpowder teas.

It’s sweet and yummy. Blueberry is the dominant note with lots of sweet, sugary cotton candy flavor. Really good! This will be on the website on Tuesday but available in very limited supply!

Sipdown (182/188)!

So despite getting lots of tea in the mail today, I didn’t do much of any tea drinking! Shame on me! That’s ok – I have the day of tomorrow about about 15 teas set aside that I want to get through, so that’s something.

Also: that awkward moment when you leave a bag of baby carrots in your coworker’s car…

Yup; you read that right. The Aisle Owner/Cashier I was closing with offered to drive me home tonight, which was very sweet but slightly awkward because her and the guy she was going home with (I don’t know if they’re dating or just friends; but it’s interesting because he’s the oldest son of another coworker) were having a conversation in the front seat in fluent Russian: and I don’t speak a word of Russian…

Anyway, when we got to my house I got out and as she was pulling away realized that I forgot my GIANT bag of baby carrots in the back of her car. Welp. That’ll be an interesting conversation Wednesday afternoon?

Anyway; I cold brewed this treasure and took ‘im to work. Honestly; I’m most amused by the colour: it was like this perfectly clear (not foggy at all) hunter green and it was very pretty. Taste wise though, I thought this was pretty good but not great. I guess I’d call it “very ok!”. It’s green; and you can tell, but there was a strong cotton candy like taste and the blueberry came through quite clearly too. Unfortunately for me, the cotton candy part of the tea made the blueberry seem very artificial and that’s what, for me, kept this from being stunning: I do not do fake blueberry things.

But really; considering how much I dislike the taste of artificial blueberries this was really good; definitely drinkable!

Thanks VariaTEA for the sample!

VariaTEA

Haha I suppose there are more awkward things you could leave in a car but baby carrots would be an interesting find.

I didn’t know my Forensic Anthro quizzes were due today at 6 instead of Monday.
I just finished the most stressful episode of Bones.
I didn’t have time to make dinner so I legit drove to my favourite Filipino restaurant and totally took the wrong turn.
TODAY WAS A FREAKIN STRESSFUL DAY AND THIS WONDERFUL TEA IS GOING TO FIX ALL MY PROBLEMS.

Special shout out to NayLynn for this tea!
I freakin love gun powder alone and in blends and oh my gosh this tea is just made with all my favourites okay. Blueberries, gun powder, freakin COTTON CANDY.

DUDE AS I WAS WAITING FOR MY WATER TO COOL, I WAS LOOKING FOR MY THERMOMETER HANDLE THING, I FOUND MY PEN FOR MY TABLET AND I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR IT FOR MONTHS NOW AND AHHH THIS IS GREAT.

dude this tasting note is a freakin mess I am so sorry.
But it smells soooo good as it’s steeping!
Whoever decided to throw whole blueberries into tea was a freakin genius okay.
This tea is SO GOOD. I don’t really get the cotton candy bit, but it does taste like nice fresh blueberry muffins! Like it’s nice and warm, and as I sip, I could just imagine the blueberries burst in my mouth.
The blueberry flavour is dead on.
And I really like how it has a green tea base, compared to DAVIDs Blueberry Jam with a black tea base. Both are great blueberry teas, but it’s nice to know that blueberry is freakin great with black and green bases.
Now to try a white blueberry tea, or a rooibos or mate or herbal and I JUST WANT TO TRY ALL THE BLUEBERRY TEAS. Whole blueberries is an absolute must.

Another successful green tea tonight!! This is sweet and blueberry and delicious :) Thank you NayLynn for sharing this with me. It seems I tend to have the most success with 52 tea green blends. Good to know…

In other news, I am going to have a day of studying/tea tomorrow at my friend’s house. Usually she comes here but I need to go pick up the food I have been storing there. However, I am the one with the huge tea stash so our plan is I will be bringing tea with me. The only problem? There is so much tea I have no idea what to bring. I may just grab the bag of all the swap teas so we have a bunch of choices but I just don’t know. Suggestions?

CHAroma

I don’t really have any suggestions, but have fun!

VariaTEA

Haha thank you :)

Fjellrev

Do you know what she tends to like? Maybe go by that, or if you have excessive amounts of something, you could do that too?

VariaTEA

She likes orange teas, floral teas, oolongs, and chais. All things I don’t :P. When she comes here though, she also likes to have cake type teas. I think I will take my swaps, the DAVIDs Spring sampler, and maybe some NINA’s.
