141 Tasting Notes
Has anyone ordered this tea recently?
I received 1 oz of this tea a couple weeks ago, and there seems to be an issue. First of all, there’s lavender in here. I love lavender, but the last time I had Strawberry Oolong there was no lavender. And this tastes like lavender. Secondly, the lavender or something literally makes this taste like soap. My mug and steeper are clean and not soapy. There is zero strawberry flavour or aroma, not even subtly once it cools. I’m seriously worried. This was hands-down my favorite tea of all time, but now I’m wondering if I got an off-batch or if I am completely insane.
UPDATE: OK, I think I’m onto something. This may not be a bad batch (it’s nowhere near bad), it may just be much lighter on the flavoring than I remember. The first cup was way off, but I’m trying this again tonight and it’s substantially better. The oolong base is increadible on its own, and NOW i’m getting a hint of the strawberry flavor I remember. There also does not seem to be any more lavender in the bag, since I went through it meticulously. We might be OK afterall, folks!

Lindsay – send stacy a note and ask her about it. She’s got some seriously awesome customer service and may be able to help you or at least explain things.
Will do. I don’t even really want to complain, it could just be the way this tea is blended. It’s just not the same tea anymore though! Stacy has a great reputation here. I will email her tonight.
better to know if you got an off batch. She’s also usually pretty damn awesome about making things right. It’s not so much complaining as expressing your disappointment :)
Lindsay-Just came across this now. So sorry to hear that your Strawberry Oolong wasn’t as good as previous orders. Strawberry Oolong does have lavender. Here is what I’m thinking might have happened, you might have received an ounce from the bottom of the tin. Perhaps the lavender settled at the bottom and is overpowering the delicate strawberry flavor. Send me a PM with your email that you used to pay through PayPal and I will send you another ounce for free.
Not a bad white blend, and I by no means dislike it. I just wish I hadn’t ordered the Black Currant Bai Mu Dan with this tea, because there are similarities, and I do enjoy the BCBMD much better. This will be my cold-steep tea for the week. The pomegranate makes this tea slightly tart, but that blends well with blackberry. The leaves are massive and reasonably well-intact. If you like tart and slightly sweet white teas, this is a great blend. If you like over-the-top juicy white tea that can re-steep forever, go with the Black Currant Bai Mu Dan.
Preparation
Why, DT, why?
You want to make a white, sweet strawberry tea?
THEN DON’T PUT HIBISCUS IN IT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
WHY DO YOU PUT HIBISCUS IN EVERYTHING?!?!?!?!
gasp
This blend is an insult to the former Strawberry White. And the quality of silver needles isn’t that bad. What’s bad is picking out little bits of hibiscus in the dry leaf and having it still be super sour and NOT TASTY.
Sipped down. Forever.
End rant.
Preparation
This is everything I wanted it to be, BUT, I recommend going with distinctive over robust. All my matchas have been robust, but this one makes me realize some flavours are way too strong for robust or higher flavouring. It’s a tad artificial and a tad overpowering with robust, but it’s still damn delicious. I just use a smaller amount when mixing or using it in a smoothie.
This tea is growing on me. Today is just one of those days where anything with cinnamon will do. It’s still pineapple expressing outside, and everything is grey and hella wet. Even for Van city this is ugly weather. Not to mention this shift is brutal and I need a daggum nap and a snuggie. Pout.
The thing that bothers me with this tea is the sweetness. It’s almost cloying, but not enough today to make me dump it out. One more cup left in this sample. Upping the rating slightly.
Preparation
Hot diggity. I am quite late to the exotica bus; this should have been in my cupboard ages ago. There is just something about the combination of sweet, spicy and creamy that is completely sublime. Lots of lemongrass too, which I can never get enough of. Also, this tisane made the WHOLE office smell AMAZING. Must buy more. This was a birthday present from the beau. He went on my steepster cupboard to find tea present ideas! D’awwwwwwww.
