1729 Tasting Notes

Backlog: I enjoyed it for an easy going citron green tea. I liked the other blends a lot more, but I still enjoyed it with honey from Cafe Nola. They did up their game when it comes to tea, though. There’s one blend called Smart Ass that I want to try out, and yes-it’s an oolong blend.

Backlog from two years ago:
Surprised how much I liked it. I actually got it twice on request. It is artificial, but I like the raspberry flavor and enjoy that the green tea wasn’t too prominent. My basicness enjoyed it well enough, though I would not want to own a lot of it. I enjoyed trying it out a local cafe.

drank Fierce B*tch by Snarky Tea
1729 tasting notes

When I had this one at the coffee shop, I was surprised how smooth and well rounded the black was. I thought it might have been a Chinese tea for the base other than the usual ceylon, but I could be wrong. I had a large cup in 16 oz, so it didn’t oversteep. The rose can be a bit overpowering, yet I really liked it. Then again, that was two years ago. This tea does have something cloying in the finish. I don’t know if it has bergamot-I didn’t taste it personally last time, though Snarky Tea does mention a chai like aftertaste? Either way, I will try it again after I gift it.

I’ve had this one close to two years ago at a local cafe for a short time, and was surprised it was a coconut pineapple rooibos blend that works. Actually, it works really, really well. I decided to get this one for myself online in combo with Fierce B**ch, the latter being a gift for a beloved no-nonsense co-worker.

Roswell already nailed it, but like she writes, the smell of flavoring is a little bit off putting. Then drinking it, it’s extremely naturalistic and naturally sweet. It leans more into the pineapple than the coconut, but it’s still there and personally satisfying. I’m just happy that it’s a successful green rooibos blend that can replace the Republic of Teas coconut plaintain blend I used to love. Rooibos can make teas too woody, so I’m happy that was not the case here. The honeybush may have had something to do with that with the flavouring. I might rate it more in the 90s if it weren’t for price, but it hits most of my check marks for what makes a good pineapple coconut blend.

In the meantime, I’m gonna back log the other Snarky Teas I’ve had.

Flavors: Coconut, Fruity, Pineapple, Sweet

Thank you, Trident for this extremely generous sample! Definitely the kind of tea I like. I should have ordered this over some of the more malty teas I got, though I’m going to have another go at all of them. Given today’s the Moon Knight premier, this was probably the most apt tea.

Before I get into their description, here’s what my senses found. Opening the bag, it was immensely buttery and floral, like I was smelling cooled sweet buns sitting out of the oven to settle before a meadow. I used my Gong Fu 2 Go tumbler, sipped it, and then let it sit around 2-3 minutes. First sip was floral nectar water, and the next steep was sweeter and rounder. It’s color was super faint and a little yellow, but crystal clear. My brain kept picking up on rose and sweet bread, but there were other distinct and very sweet florals emphasizing some very clear violet notes too. The aftertaste bordered on sucrose or white grape fruit juice or moscato, though I’d say fruity in the line of yellow, white and sweet green fruits.

Looking at their notes, basically the same, but they mention honeydew (YES) and grape juice. So, yeah. All in steep one. I will write more as I drink it. Either way, it’s exactly the kind of tea that I would usually be looking for and keep on hand. Fruity, floral, and therefore, ethereal.

Cream and sugar did help improve on the tea a little, but I’m still registering more tannin with it. I’m being a snob and want more vanilla cause I’m basic. There’s more to it though, and I do really like the contrast of the spices and I am really happy with the Wuyi oolong base. For now, it’s solid, I may rate it in the 70s, but I feel like there’s something I’m still missing.

Adding cream and sugar makes this tea more Marzipan-like, bordering a little on macaroon. I’d note almonds, SUGA!, pistachio, and fruity hints from the cranberry. It’s something that would pair really well with cookies as a dessert tea. Still interesting and unique, but depends on cream and sugar to cut through bitterness and astringency. I like it and am happy I have some.

I had it while watching the 2nd season of Bridgerton. Kate Sharma’s need for chai gave me a craving, so I had this one with more water than last time cutting on the astringency so I can drink the tea without cream or sugar, but amping up the coconut and ginger. Smooth and buttery, but still has the coconut naturally complement the cardamom, ginger, pepper, and sweetening lemongrass. It does work well with cream and sugar, but I might not need it. So far, it looks like I may rate it between 83-87. Either way, I’m digging this particular chai because it’s on the lighter side.

S1 did nothing for me. Caught a glimpse of S2E1 on Sunday then spent the rest of Sunday, my only day off last week, watching all of S2!

Interesting. For me, Bridgerton was something to watch for when I as bored and needed brain popcorn the first time. I liked the ideas and historical features they have for a Uchronia type of show that’s not historically accurate or truly authentic. I appreciate the nods it has, and it makes for something fun to watch with my GF. A lot of the reviews I read were lukewarm of the 2nd Season, but I actually thought it had a stronger plot and characters. Now, the male leads could have been written better in the second season (there was some bright spots that added more to them than just prince charming types), but I was still entertained.

What did you think of season 2?

(Kate is bae-Edwina also deserved better.)

TV as an entertainment form, to borrow your word, is popcorn to me. I don’t watch much so I don’t have a strong opinion or analysis of S2 (or any show for that matter), just know that it drew me in :P

This one is still not striking out as much as I’d like. The smell is incredible as it sneaks a silky citrus like citronella and floral papaya, but the flavor only has the complex profiles in hints. Still a work in progress I see.

drank Ambrosia by Spirit Tea

I finished this one rather quickly after pushing it off for a bit. The supreme quality surprised, given it’s only 12 bucks for 50 grams, nevermind it tastes like a high quality Taiwanese Honey Black. Super, super good. All the notes are above, and now I just have to rate it. I will say if you check this company out and looking for good budget teas that punch well above their weight, I’d recommend this one. The hawthorne berries and baked peach flavor profile contrasted with the teas light malt make it super appealing. I might buy some more of this next time.

Me:

I am an MSU graduate, and current alternative ed. high school social studies and history teacher. I formerly minored in anthropology, and I love Egyptian and classical history. I love to read, write, draw, paint, sculpt, fence(with a sword), practice calisthenics on rings, lift weights, workout, relax, and drink a cuppa tea…or twenty.

I’ve been drinking green and black teas ever since I was little living in Hawaii. Eastern Asian influence was prominent with my friends and where I grew up, so I’ve been exposed to some tea culture at a young age. I’ve come a long way since I began on steepster and now drink most teas gong fu, especially oolong. Any tea that is naturally creamy, fruity, or sweet without a lot of added flavoring ranks as a must have for me. I also love black teas and dark oolongs with the elusive “cocoa” note. My favorites are lighter Earl Greys, some white teas like What-Cha’s Kenyan offerings, most Hong-Cha’s, darker Darjeelings, almost anything from Nepal, Green Shan Lin Xi’s, and Greener Dong Dings. I’m in the process of trying Alishan’s. I also tend to really enjoy Yunnan Black or Red teas and white teas. I’m pickier with other teas like chamomile, green teas, and Masalas among several.

I used to give ratings, but now I only rate teas that have a strong impression on me. If I really like it, I’ll write it down.

I’ll enjoy a tea almost no matter what, even if the purpose is more medicinal, for it is my truest vice and addiction.
