It’s been too long since I’ve had a jade oolong that was actually cheaper than $10 an oz. I got one oz of this, and I was really surprised with how flavorful and long lasting this one was. The slightly higher oxidation was also a surprise, but the overall character of the tea is still immensely floral like an extremely high quality Tieguanyin.

Minerality, Taiwanese viscosity, and some imagined leafy lemony floral fruitiness are the edge this one has over some other Taiwanese Teas. It was actually more flavorful than a Dayulin I have….I know, blasphemy.

Earlier steeps heavily leaned into orchid and some osmanthus, and later steeps reminded me of skittles in it’s sugar cane-citrus (lemon or orange???)-peach-apricot-WTF-melon? sweetness, accented by hinting grass notes and watercress, or water-chestnut texture in the aftertaste. Honestly, I can’t pin down the fruit I’m getting. It’s like anything from green, yellow, and orange fruits in accents. Playing Foo Fighters is a perfect fit for this, and it’s a contender for becoming a daily drinker.

Hello
I’ve waited here for you
Ev-ooooooooo-loooooooong

Tonight, I throw myself into
And out of the hong
Daily oolong, I sang
….
And I wonder
When I sip along with you

If every taste could ever be this real forever
If any tea could ever be this good again
The only thing I’ll ever ask of you
You’ve got to promise not to stop when I say when
I sang

Flavors: Apricot, Chestnut, Floral, Grass, Green, Green Melons, Mineral, Orchids, Osmanthus, Spring Water

Me:

I am an MSU graduate, and current alternative ed. high school social studies and history teacher. I formerly minored in anthropology, and I love Egyptian and classical history. I love to read, write, draw, paint, sculpt, fence(with a sword), practice calisthenics on rings, lift weights, workout, relax, and drink a cuppa tea…or twenty.

I’ve been drinking green and black teas ever since I was little living in Hawaii. Eastern Asian influence was prominent with my friends and where I grew up, so I’ve been exposed to some tea culture at a young age. I’ve come a long way since I began on steepster and now drink most teas gong fu, especially oolong. Any tea that is naturally creamy, fruity, or sweet without a lot of added flavoring ranks as a must have for me. I also love black teas and dark oolongs with the elusive “cocoa” note. My favorites are lighter Earl Greys, some white teas like What-Cha’s Kenyan offerings, most Hong-Cha’s, darker Darjeelings, almost anything from Nepal, Green Shan Lin Xi’s, and Greener Dong Dings. I’m in the process of trying Alishan’s. I also tend to really enjoy Yunnan Black or Red teas and white teas. I’m pickier with other teas like chamomile, green teas, and Masalas among several.

I used to give ratings, but now I only rate teas that have a strong impression on me. If I really like it, I’ll write it down.

I’ll enjoy a tea almost no matter what, even if the purpose is more medicinal, for it is my truest vice and addiction.
