1805 Tasting Notes
From the TTB.
I was feeling quite nostalgic, thinking about a past trip to Northern Ireland (and traveling in general), and decided to make a bowl of brown sugar steel cut oats topped with vanilla whiskey butter for breakfast. It’s definitely taking me back to my mornings in Belfast.
Thought this may be a nice compliment, and it’s quite meh. There’s a bit of a roasted quality, but’s it’s mostly just tannic and quite drying.
Steepster is still broken, but I’m attempting to log this anyway. It’s a bit bitter, even after steeping on the low end of the recommended time. So, I will be adjusting in the future. There is a nice caramel flavor going on, with a mild nuttiness. Definitely need to attempt this one again with a shorter steep time.
New Tea! This came as a sample in my recent B&B order, and I couldn’t wait to brew it up. It smells absolutely incredible- like sugary candied fruits. The first few sips were extremely hibiscus-heavy. But, as the cup cooled, more of the lightly spiced candied fruit notes became apparent. I wish hibiscus wasn’t used in this blend as it doesn’t seem necessary.
I love hibi and candied fruits. If this ever crosses my path during free shipping B&B times, I’ll have to pick some up.
Added Gingerbread Marshmallow maple syrup to this and it tastes like a frosted gingerbread cake. It’s obviously very sweet, but it works so well with the orange peel and ginger. Very festive. I’m looking forward to making it as a latte.
This tea is quite odd tasting. I’m getting a carrot/dirt flavor, and some crystalized ginger. Not really what I would consider a snickerdoodle or pumpkin. I didn’t sweeten this at all because of all of the sweet ingredients in the blend (cane sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon drops), but I really think it needs an added sweetener.
I definitely need to use different steeping parameters next time I try this, because I used water that was much too cool and it just didn’t coax out enough flavor. I was intrigued by the idea of jasmine and mint together in a blend, but because of the low temperature, I could really just taste a bit of mint. Need to re-try.
