drank Brandy Oolong, Ruby 18 by Tealux

It’s like this tea is just on the border of being a black tea but not quite. It brews up a rich dark color like a black tea with a malty flavor and just a touch of the creaminess. It doesn’t have any bitterness or harshness that I find sometimes in black teas. Well, of course it’s not a black tea. It’s an oolong.
As this cools down a bit more it’s even more delicious. Got caught up in a conversation with my mother in law forgetting about my tea and then I took a sip. Wow! More milky notes coming through along with the dark robust malty flavor. What a treat!

Second Infusion and it seems to lose the milky flavor and less malty. More like a black tea. Not too thrilled with the 2nd infusion but maybe I didn’t use enough tea or didn’t let it steep long enough.

I received my samples today from Tea At Sea and so thankful they have generously sent them. This oolong brews up a yellow/amber colour. The taste is delicious with a bit of the milkiness like the milk oolongs but not overly strong. It’s the same for the floral notes in the tea. It’s a very smooth tasting tea and I could definitely get used to this as an everyday oolong.

drank Jasmine Chung Hao by TeaFrog

Very excited to be trying my very first tea from Teafrog and it’s interesting I chose the free sample they threw in instead of one of the samples I bought. This tea taste almost like a Jasmine Green I have in a teabag. I don’t know the name of the Jasmine Green I have in the tea bag. I took it out of the box (bought it from Loblaws) and it has Jasmine Tea stamped on it and some Chinese writing – no company name. That said, this tea has a nice floral jasmine scent . I don’t consider it too strong but I love floral scented teas. The tea itself is delicate, no bitterness .

I have this one a few times. First time it tasted a bit weird. Now it’s really starting to grow on me. I don’t like a plain chamomile tea and so for all the chamomile teas I’ve had this one would be the best. The sweet juicy mango blends well with the chamomile

drank Ancient Golden Yunnan by Rishi Tea

My tea doesn’t say Ancient on the box but it’s organic Golden Yunnan. Don’t know if it’s the same as this but think so. I made a mistake in picking this up. With the name Golden Yunnan I was thinking it was very light like a green tea. I don’t like a lot of black teas and this one is quite strong. It does have that rich raisony/plum flavour (which it said on the box! I just had tunnel vision.) I agree with all the reviews but it just doesn’t agree with me so I don’t want to give this a too low rating. Maybe I will grow to love it or can use in a swap.

Second time having this tea and I’m starting to really love it. Darn. Only one cup left after this one. Steeped this one longer than I meant to by accident but it still tastes great.

drank Wild Sweet Orange by Tazo

I should have looked at the reviews before picking up this tea. Wild Sweet Orange. it sounded devine. Then I opened the bag. MMMM It smelled really orangey. I thought this would make a nice tea. Brewed it up. Man, is it ever tart. Crap, I couldn’t even drink it. Added some xylitol to it and it toned down the tartness. Still not the best tasting but it will do.

I’ve been trying a few sencha’s but they are really not my favourites. I decided to just try this one with no flavourings added to see if I would take to a pure sencha tea. Yes! I think this could be a regular tea. It has a mellow grassiness and toasted flavour to it. I would say like the toasted brown rice but there’s no rice in it.

Bio

Green teas are my favourite teas but I also enjoy: white, some herbal, rooibos, raw pu’erh, light oolongs, a little bit of black , and a little bit of ripe pu’erh. I have moved away from artificial flavourings and there’s hardly anything left in my cabinet with artificial flavouring or colours. It is mostly straight teas or tea blends.
