661 Tasting Notes
I bought this Kamairicha a few months ago. It’s the cheapest one on Yuuki-cha’s website and has good reviews so I thought I would try it out.
I’ve tried brewing this many ways but it still doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t find it a bad tea but it’s not too much like the other kamairicha’s either. This one is more savory. There’s a roasted taste to it. This tea was fired at a higher temperature than a normal kamairicha which explains why it’s so savory and roasty. For those that love roasted savory teas, that explains all the good reviews. There’s a little bit of similarity to Laoshan Green or wild jujube tea.
For me, however, I will woefully make it through this tea but wait in anticipation for the new 2019 kamairicha’s to come out.
Flavors: Roasted
I’ve had this tea for awhile and never left a review. Strangely , now that everyone is discussing about what is to become of Steepster, I’ve suddenly been back on here a lot more lately. I tried a different group but I really like the idea of leaving tasting notes and none of them seem to have that.
Brewed this gongfu this morning and it’s heavenly. It is grown in the Wu Yi Mountains, Fujian Province. The leaves are long and spindly like an oolong.
It definitely has a lovely orchid floral aroma and taste (just like oolong) that lasts through the first few infusions. The tea was a sweet honey & malty brew with that lovely floral quality to it. I only made it through four infusions but this tea could have given more.Flavors: Floral, Honey, Malt, Orchid

Another sample in my Crimson Lotus sample pack.
I haven’t got much to say about this tea except mushrooms. That was the dominant flavour throughout with a bit of bitterness. After infusion 5, the mushroom was a bit less.
Later steeps past 6 were better for me but this is not my type of sheng. I am surprised it has such good reviews. I guess we are all looking for something different in our teas. This one didn’t cut it for me.

I got the sample 2018 package from Crimson Lotus because I was missing some Pu-erh in my cabinet. I wanted to try some samples and just get one good cake of something I love.
This one was very good. I keep the leaf amount and water down. 3g and 100 ml water approximately with 90C water. That might be too weak for most Pu-erh drinkers but I find I like them a bit weak. They keep getting strong in the early infusions anyway.
This one was so smooth. Hardly any bitterness and strong honey & creamy taste in the early infusions. I also picked up some faint fruity notes. The creamy taste disappeared by steep 6 and it was just honey and smooth. I could have easily gone beyond the 9 infusions I did because this tea has practically no caffeine. They were not kidding when they say this tea is so relaxing! Once I hit that many infusions of most Pu-erh , I’ve gone over my caffeine quota for the day.
All in all this is definitely a good Pu-erh for me but (drumroll) what is the price? $94.99 for a 200g cake. I’ve never spent that much on a tea EVER and I’ve gotten some really good teas. That’s probably US funds too so converted to Cdn at 1.3 would be $123.49. Add on shipping and the cost would rise more. No, definitely won’t be buying a cake of this tea. Too bad. It’s such a good one.

Apr Tea sent me free samples and I was so thankful for that. Thank you Apr Tea! I have been awhile getting around to writing up my reviews and trying all the teas since I was on a special diet and caffeine was reduced for awhile.
Brewed this gongfu. It’s got a predominate fruity honey sweetness that is very tasty. It was also a bit creamy with a slight nuttiness to it. Either this tea doesn’t brew up too strong or the leaves were not quite as fresh because I needed a good amount of leaves to water. I drink a lot of green teas so a fruity tea is quite a pleasant change for me. I really enjoyed this tea.

I’m not a fan of roasty green teas either…reminds me of the dark ages when I used to drink “Temple of Heaven” gunpowder green tea. I’ll pass on this one. Waiting for Organic Miyazaki Kamairicha Minekaori to be back in stock so I can finally order my 2019 shincha.
Gunpowder green- that stuff is awful. So anyway, I couldn’t wait for the kamairicha’s to get posted. I was all out of sencha for a few months so I placed an order last week. I’ll just get another one in when the kamairicha’s come in.
