Another sample from MissB. Thankfully they did not add hibiscus to this which so many companies would do. It’s got a nice apple dessert flavour. I don’t eat a lot of desserts so I cannot say which apple dessert but it certainly does taste like that. It’s a good tea but doesn’t make me want to buy it.

I was trying to find a day I could enjoy many infusions of this tea but that’s not about to happen until the week-end. As soon as I saw the leaves I just knew this was going to be a high quality green tea. The green leaves were curled like an oolong. Even the flavour was a bit like an oolong. Nutty and buttery not grassy. I like grassy but this is very different for a green tea. Didn’t pick up too much fruit notes or seaweed like the others. Maybe with a second infusion. I hope my leaves last until the afternoon. I think I would buy this one from Tea at Sea. It’s a keeper. Thank-you Tea at Sea for the free sample.

drank Mao Jian by The Tea Emporium

Yesterday I discovered a Tea Emporium in my business travels. I didn’t have a lot of time to spend in there but you can be sure I will be back! Out of loads of untried teas what to buy? I stuck with my old familiar grassy green. The lady picked out this one for me. Yes , it’s a good everyday green. Mild tasting, very grassy. Brews up a golden yellow colour. We can’t be having fancy teas everyday and sometimes it’s just nice to have a good tea with nothing fancy but good flavour.

drank Chocolate Orange by DAVIDsTEA

Got this sample from MissB and I see it’s a substantial sample. Was wondering if she didn’t like the tea? Seems so from the review but it was the dairy thing. I too like to avoid dairy but a few chocolate chips in an occasional tea isn’t too bad. It does have the oil from the chocolate floating on top like I’ve seen chocolate teas but I think it tastes devine! Pu-erh earthiness, a bit of orange, and then the chocolate last. It’s funny how all these orange teas have been finding their way into my cabinet lately. I couldn’t seem to find one with the right amount of orange in the mix. This one is perfect. It would even be great without the chocolate.

Thank you MissB for this sample. I was always curious about some of Teavanna’s tea’s . This one sounded like a really good one so I brewed it up this morning. It seemed to be very watery. I added the right amount of tea but there just isn’t too much body to this tea. I taste the hibiscus and something fruity is coming through a bit (I guess the pear) but I get no oolong. That surprised me as I can see the oolong in there and the leaves are big. I might try this one as an iced tea for next time. It doesn’t seem to cut it as a hot tea. I’m still grateful to get to try it out without having to buy a huge amount from Teavanna!

drank Hibiscus Rooibos by Rishi Tea

I got this tea as a Christmas gift and I wouldn’t have picked it up myself with Hibiscus in the name. Overall though it’s quite tasty. Even with the hibiscus it still has a nice fruity flavour. The hibiscus is strong but the other ingredients seem to round it out and make it less tart.

drank Kalahari by TeaFrog

I thought I had ordered the LOVE rooibos as a sample from Teafrog and got this one instead. Pretty weird. It certainly smelled good in the bag. I think the name Kalahari threw me off for what I expected in a smell and flavour. It was almost like doing a blind test! I kept thinking there was something slightly familiar to Rishi’s Earl Grey Rooibos but not quite. Then I saw lemongrass in the ingredients and that explained that since bergamot and lemongrass are both citrusy. I like infused1’s comment about how this smells and tastes like Hall’s lemon cough drops. I agree. I think a little too much lemon flavour was added on top of the lemongrass. I always like Hall’s lemon cough drops though so I do sort of enjoy the tea. But would I buy it again? Probably not.

drank Jasmine Green Tulsi by Tealux

Tulsi is very strong flavoured in this tea with a bit of green tea and very mild jasmine in the background. Tulsi is supposed to be relaxing and green tea a stimulant. So far I think the Tulsi is winning. The taste combination takes a bit of getting used to but i could enjoy it as a relaxing cup of tea.

drank Spicy Pear by Tealux

I needed something with no caffeine as I overdosed on tea yesterday. This one smelled kind of perfumy in the bag and I could pick up the cinnamon. Brewed up I can taste the pear faintly . There’s nothing really holding this mix together. I think adding a white tea would give it a little base and dimension. However then, it wouldn’t be caffeine free would it? As it cools down a bit I am getting a bit more of the flavour: Popcorn, faint cinnamon . It’s not a bad tea but I’m glad I only have a sample size of it.

Bio

Green teas are my favourite teas but I also enjoy: white, some herbal, rooibos, raw pu’erh, light oolongs, a little bit of black , and a little bit of ripe pu’erh. I have moved away from artificial flavourings and there’s hardly anything left in my cabinet with artificial flavouring or colours. It is mostly straight teas or tea blends.
