drank Caramel Tea (Thé Caramel) by Lipton
1501 tasting notes

Strong bagged black tea with even stronger caramel smell. Pretty straightforward stuff, but needs sweetener to bring out the flavor at all. Needed to add some cream because it’s just too strong for my stomach.

Grabbed this in France, added description, ingredients and translated it as best I could.

Flavors: Caramel

Second time and it’s just as good as the first, minus the crap way I have to make tea at this new place (in a old pot with that yuck nonstick coating).

Flavors: Almond, Cinnamon, Cloves, Orange, Rose

An amazingly delicate and sweet cup, with only a touch of sweetener added to get the fruits to pop. I get a juicy pineapple mango tea, don’t quite get mango or passionfruit except maybe in the aftertaste. Was given this as a (large, resealable) free sample with my first visit, at the strong urging of the staff member to try it. Yep, I’m finding this staff dude again for more recommendations.

Flavors: Mango, Pineapple

OMGsrsly

I like the name!

drank Je t'Aime by THEODOR
1501 tasting notes

I know this is Je T’aime, even though I bought it from a supplier… all the bags/boxes/tins were Thé O Dor. The tea also looks exactly like the picture. Yet, this tea, the tea that I’m drinking, is melted milk chocolate amazingness. I kinda sorta get the marzipan macaroon, but more so that it’s a CHOCOLATE macaroon with marzipan in it. It’s delicious, it’s definitely fantastic at slightly less than boiling, and I want this as a permanent fixture in my cupboard just as I’ve managed to brew it today.

Also thought it was a fitting tea as I head out to a silent walk in Grenoble, France, to honor those who died in the recent atrocities in Paris, and to stand united. It’s been a somber time here the past few days, I’ve run into military with machine guns, and so this is my way of injecting a tiny bit of love into the sadness.

I also seem to have just jumped over my 1200th review (funny, because I’ve likely drank double than during my time on Steepster, but for a while there forgot to log things). So, because it’s so fitting (for me and my line of work) I dub this my 1200th tea! :)

Flavors: Chocolate

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Congrats on 1200! :)

drank Gin Fizz by Jardin du Thé
1501 tasting notes

Forgot to review this! Slight ginger spice/bite to this tea, but not enough (for me). I understand why it was called this – a very subtle tea, that I can see being made into a cocktail or fizzy drink quite easily. A bit more complex than your basic lemon ginger tea, but only slightly.

Flavors: Ginger, Hay, Lemon

Preparation
185 °F / 85 °C 2 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank Nuit à Versailles by Jardin du Thé
1501 tasting notes

I’m positive this is Dammann Frères, but bought it from Jardin du Thé so I’ll just leave it here. Too floral for me, little tiny bit of kiwi, but it’s all floral and bergamot-y, just a yuck on so many levels for me. Tried it, pretty sure I grabbed it for someone else, and will ship off the rest to the Canadian contingent for enjoying. Not a BAD tea, just not a tea for me.

Flavors: Bergamot, Flowers, Tropical

Preparation
180 °F / 82 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Love seeing all the names of the teas you are getting a chance to try. If only I could understand the language to know what they are :)

MissB

Well, where it makes sense I translate the name (in this case it would only be sold as this name, but it’s “Night in Versailles”). The description I always translate, so you’ll get an idea as to what’s in it, etc. I often drink teas from different countries, with allergies I’ve found that Google Translate is my best friend. :)

Suziqzer

I guess I hadn’t noticed that in your descriptions It was getting pretty late last night when I looked through some of the notes, probably just missed them.

Smart idea to use google, especially when you are traveling. I didn’t know they had a translate option, guess that’s probably normal for someone who lives in the Midwest and doesn’t travel much. Looks pretty cool. I’ll have to remember it when my son takes a language class in school.

Enjoy your travels and tea tasting and all the while.. Stay safe! Have fun!

drank Pêché Mignon by THEODOR
1501 tasting notes

This tea smells ridiculously sweet, and vaguely familiar. I’m excited… I brew it… it smells even better… and once I taste it (needed mild sweetening to make the flavors pop) I recognize it. It’s that amazeballs cantaloupe green rooibos from San Francisco’s Lupicia store (only available in the SF store)! I could easily drink, smell this all day. Perfection.

Flavors: Cantaloupe, Peach, Sweet

Cute peach?! :D

Flyawaybirdie

Golden Honeydew? It’s available on the Lupicia website now too. =)

OMGsrsly

Cameron B., only if you translate filet mignon as cute steak! :D

OMGsrsly

(I keep laughing. That’s adorable. Cute steak it is!)

It’s such a cute little steak! ;)

Liquid nutella, minus the thickness of the actual product. Ummm… yes… yes!

Flavors: Chocolate, Hazelnut

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 2 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

This note sounds like an Herbal Essences commercial. ;)

I didn’t quite go that far, I think I needed another yes in there! ;)

drank Thé des Riads by Jardin du Thé

Somehow missed this is a green and steeped it as a black. Now that it’s cold, all I’m getting is floral, drying notes, whereas the sweetness in the sip that I got while it was hot, has been relegated to the end of the gulp. Too bad, so sad.

Flavors: Drying, Flowers, Grapefruit, Sweet

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
Sil

what’s really weird about some of these is that they’re greens and recommended temp is near boiling… eep! can’t do it!

OMGsrsly

Try it for a minute. I’ve been experimenting with some of my non-black teas, and 195 (my standard) for 1 minute or 45 seconds is doing really well. I should post some notes. :)

Sil

i did it at 1.5 min…

Gosh I like this tea. It’s a simple bagged tea, tastes strongly of sweet green apples. Hell, if it helps me reduce some water weight too, I’m quite happy. I’ll still drink it whether it does or not though. Upping the rating because I’m drinking it quite often.

Profile

Bio

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
