From Jardin du Thé

Thé vert parfumé à la bergamote, kiwi, pêche jaune, fleurs d’oranger et fleurs de violette, agrémenté de pétales de bleuet et de rose. Des saveurs cultivées à Versailles depuis le XVIIe siècle.

Green tea flavored with bergamot, kiwi, yellow peach, orange blossom and violet flowers, accented with cornflower petals and rose. Flavors cultivated in Versailles since the seventeenth century.

So I uhhhh got this sample from someone. No idea who! Someone accidentally dropped their tiny spoon in my box of samples and in rooting around for it, separated from the envelope indicating origins. So to whoever graciously gifted me this, thank you! EDIT: It may have been MissB, so thanks again! :)
Anyhow. The tea. I’ve had it for awhile, so it may have lost some flavour. But overall it was pleasant. It was very fruity, and slightly tart in a rather refreshing way.
I was shocked to see that the ingredients included the evil berg. I didn’t taste it at all, nor did it make me feel unwell. So either I’m getting over this darn allergy, the berg had faded, or it was only a teeny tiny bit. Whatever, I’m just glad it went over ok!
Overall, I enjoyed it and would gladly have more if it weren’t a sipdown.

I don’t have a problem with bergamot and flowers from fruit trees. I could live with and possibly even enjoy it in another tea. The tea base though.. I don’t know what it is but it’s boring and blunt- I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me it was bancha or Chinese sencha (bane of my flavoured green tea-filled existence).

Or maybe my sample is feeling its age. I’m no expert. All I know is that the resulting combination leads to grass soap in one sip and fruity asparagus in another.

More from MissB – thanks!! :) Oddly, I’m not really tasting any bergamot here, just a bit of a mariney green and a bit of fruitiness/floral notes. Given that I don’t believe I’ve had contamination/loss of flavour issues with any of the other teas, I’m not sure why I’m tasting something so different from everyone else, but the tea certainly looks like that in the picture. Not one I really care for.

Honestly, my favorite steep of this tea is 3rd steep or so. The green just gets so sweet and the florals are toned down and it makes you think of those perfumes that you wish you could eat! Give a few more steeps a go, I think you’ll like it!

I’m positive this is Dammann Frères, but bought it from Jardin du Thé so I’ll just leave it here. Too floral for me, little tiny bit of kiwi, but it’s all floral and bergamot-y, just a yuck on so many levels for me. Tried it, pretty sure I grabbed it for someone else, and will ship off the rest to the Canadian contingent for enjoying. Not a BAD tea, just not a tea for me.

Well, where it makes sense I translate the name (in this case it would only be sold as this name, but it’s “Night in Versailles”). The description I always translate, so you’ll get an idea as to what’s in it, etc. I often drink teas from different countries, with allergies I’ve found that Google Translate is my best friend. :)

I guess I hadn’t noticed that in your descriptions It was getting pretty late last night when I looked through some of the notes, probably just missed them.

Smart idea to use google, especially when you are traveling. I didn’t know they had a translate option, guess that’s probably normal for someone who lives in the Midwest and doesn’t travel much. Looks pretty cool. I’ll have to remember it when my son takes a language class in school.
