1501 Tasting Notes

I remember coveting this last year, but I think it’s time to share… so packing up a bit for others to enjoy. Love doing that, especially when it’s a tea I know few can get their hands on (blended in a store in Edmonton, Alberta… yes they ship, but who would know to look for that, unless they’d been to the store?)

Anyway. Getting a definitely ginger kick (booyah!) as this cooled, which I’m absolutely loving. The peach was more apparent when it was hot though, whereas the ginger was completely absent then. Hm.

Still, an overall yum, y’all.

drank Market Chai by Market Spice
1501 tasting notes

Grabbed this while at Pike Place Market in Seattle (Market Spice, I love you). Thought I’d tried this already… perhaps not. It’s a smooth chai, not as “bold” or strong as the description stated, but still a lovely chai. Some orange in there, a good kick of what I think is nutmeg, maybe cloves?

Flavors: Cloves, Nutmeg, Orange, Smooth

Had this briefly last night before the murder mystery; first thought was, “Yuck. Why did I pick this up in London again?” Maybe because I could, maybe because I thought I wanted to share.. dunno. Compared to the Adagio chai just prior, this was actually quite disgusting. I’m tacking it up to the “syrup flavorings”.

Randomly grabbed this last night, and boy is it ever amazing. I know I’ve had it before, but it was nowhere near this good! Dunno what I did differently, other than oversteep it way way WAY too much (15 minutes). Loved it, helped me power through writing a murder mystery – right up until the last second when I had to leave to play it with 32 others. Success!

how did the event go?!

Yes; very curious in how it went down as well!

drank La Mangue by Fauchon
1501 tasting notes

Hm. Have I really not had this since I bought it? So weird. I’ve shared it with countless people now.

Regardless, I’ve got a tin of this still from prior to my trip to Europe, and during my “where are all my teas” fun times, I came across this. Sure, why not? I’ll try it.

Smells delicious. Juicy, ripe mango and peach. Tasting it, it’s just okay. There’s the mango/peach flavor, then something odd that’s got me making a face. Paper-y? Dry? A touch off in the sweetness? I don’t quite get it, but I’m happy to share it with all the folks who want to try French teas, and I know that Fauchon (and The O Dor) are the two the most difficult to get here. So, share pile it is! :)

1.5 tsp in 12 oz, 2.5 minutes at 180F.

Flavors: Mango, Paper, Peach

Preparation
180 °F / 82 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Second steep was a massive oversteep (7 minutes) and I left the tea out overnight to dry out… so not the best conditions. Still, a lovely tea, just not as lovely as yesterday. A bit thin on the flavor, yet dark on the coloring.

drank Graham Slam by Herbal Infusions
1501 tasting notes

Got this… gosh, it seems like ages ago. It’s been at least a year. Found it in my tea exploration (meaning: trying to figure out where all my tea was stored during a six month trip to Europe). Doubt I’ll ever buy anything from this company because of the horrid customer service (saying it was shipped when it wasn’t, getting a package two months later, zero communication about any of it), so I wanted to try and enjoy this.

Sure, it does, KIND of taste like a graham cracker. There’s a graininess to it that’s pleasant, I get the cookie bit, it’s sweet and almost caramel-y, there’s a faint (VERY faint) smokiness to it… I just can’t get over the customer service bits, and so am likely not enjoying this as much as I should be.

Fjellrev

I agree. I’m still so grateful to PayPal for coming through and helping me get my money back from them.

MissB

Holy crap, that’s horrible. I mean, I eventually got all my tea, but it took a lot of calling, emailing and harassing them before I was even acknowledged. Never again.

Fjellrev

Ech, that’s still terrible that you had to go through all that trouble. I tried emailing maybe 2-3 times? Oh well, there are better teas out there anyway.

Ah…. see, after a not-so-great tea experience, I should just reach for Teavivre. This is the lovely chocolate honeyed goodness I truly adore, with a hint of floral sweetness, and a bit of… crunch?… that I just can’t get enough of. Will definitely re-steep.

Used three balls in 12 oz of water, for a 2.5 minute steep in 185F water.

Flavors: Chocolate, Floral, Honey, Thick

drank Coconut Cocoa by The Republic of Tea
1501 tasting notes

Bleh. Why did I make this for myself last night? Oh yes, because my house sitter moved all my teas, including the ones in the swap box — so I forgot this was a “someone else will enjoy this much more than I ever will” kind of tea.

It smells very strongly of coconut, both brewed and in the tin. It tastes more like coconut than anything else – which is lovely, if you like coconut. In fairness, this is truly very, very coconutty… a honest to goodness coconut, as opposed to artificial. I drink and eat a lot of coconut products though these days, so perhaps that’s my bias…. I just want the real thing.

Flavors: Coconut

It’s odd…I love coconut, but I don’t much care for this tea! :)

Grabbed this while in Montreal six months ago and promptly mailed it back to myself to enjoy at home – which is now. ;)

Interesting tea, quite a bit more subtle than I was expecting. As the instruction say on their website, this is meant to be enjoyed Moroccan style, which means heavily sweetened. While I can see this reasoning, it’s just not how I like my tea. And so…

Very grassy green tea, with only the breath of mint in there (you know what I mean – where you inhale and can feel the coolness of the mint, but not taste it). There’s something making this creamy as well as very smooth – I think the creaminess is the actual green tea, whereas the smoothness is from the absinthe. Which, just now, I only realized was an herb.

Doubt I’d drink this again, yet can see how a green tea lover might really appreciate it.

Liquid Proust

Is there a absinthe taste or it is more of a marketing word?

MissB

I don’t know what absinthe actually tastes like, but this is a spice company that also blends their own tea. So the ingredients are only green tea, absinthe, and moroccan mint. Sometime who has had the absinthe drink would have to taste it to tell me… I really haven’t a clue.

Kaylee

Allow me to volunteer for that task!

MissB

Sure! Send me a note and I can send it your way.

Liquid Proust

Shoot, me too! I have a few alcohol inspired teas to swap with.

MissB

There’s enough for two Liquid Proust, and I’m happy to share. I don’t want any tea back though.. Unless maybe it’s something being amazing. I just have too much tea.

Profile

Bio

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
