drank Pistachio Ice Cream by Butiki Teas
1146 tasting notes

My partner just brought me a bunch of pistachios from Taiwan. They’re very sweet. We can’t tell if they are naturally sweet or actually sweetened – they came from a bin simply labeled “pistachio” in Chinese. There does not appear to be any sugar on them, for what that’s worth. They taste just like this tea though. Sweet, nutty, creamy pistachio goodness. Totally addictive. I’m so sad that this marks a Butiki sipdown. This was one of my favorite teas.

Um. What? Why does this have such a weirdly thick mouthfeel? Is this their attempt at creaminess? Something’s not quite right here. I’m definitely getting chamomile and smooth vanilla, but the honey flavoring tastes really fake and seriously what is up with this texture? Apologies to anyone I sent this to in a swap – I had not tried it yet and it looked promising. This is drinkable but… weird to me.

EDIT: Ost described this as tasting like Vaseline and I think that’s exactly right. The texture is weirdly Vaseline-esque as well.

Thanks to Angel at Teavivre for the sample!

The leaves are so pretty! I love the many shades of brown, from so light it’s almost yellow to a nice chocolate hue. The actual brew has an interesting warmth to it. It took me a while to place the flavor, but it’s fresh-baked Russian black bread and manuka honey. I got about 6 solid steeps out of this in my little gong fu teapot. The flavor didn’t vary notably over the course of steeping, but I’d like to try it with my aroma cup and see if that makes a difference. Lucky for me, Teavivre samples are generous so I’ll be able to play around with this tea a bit more!

drank White Rose by Numi Organic Tea

I like this. I had it at work today with a bit of brown sugar. It smells like a bouquet of roses. Frankly, the teabag looks like it too – all I could see was petal bits, no actual tea. The flavor of the base is kind of interesting. It’s heartier than I expected from a white tea, but it balances nicely with the natural rose flavor. I want to drink this a few more times before rating it, but so far it’s enjoyable.

drank Chamomile Citrus by Mighty Leaf Tea

There were a few bags of this blend in a variety box I ordered recently. It’s still delightful. The chamomile and citrus are well blended and refreshing. This is better hot than iced, but it is still palatable cold. It’s nice for an afternoon work tea when I need something energizing but caffeine-free.

This blend is way too heavy on the clove for my taste. It lives at the office, where I hardly ever drink it because the flavor taints my travel mug. I brought a bag home just so I can review it properly. Turns out there isn’t much more to say than what I’ve said before. The clove just overwhelms everything else. I tried adding rice milk to mellow it out, but that did not help. The rice milk might actually have made the clove even more prominent. As rooibos chais go, this one’s pretty unimpressive.

drank Smoked Maple Banana by Butiki Teas
1146 tasting notes

I had the second steep of this for my breakfast tea today. I added rice milk on a whim. The smokiness was much more prominent this time than it was when I had the first steep unadulterated yesterday. As it cooled, the smoke mellowed out and the sweet creaminess of the rice milk played up the banana flavor. I have not decided yet whether I prefer this with rice milk or straight…

Wonderland Teas were a special request when my friend went to Disney World. I’m pretty darn charmed by the tin alone. So far the tea itself is decent too. This particular blend is good hot brewed and then cooled. It reminds me of Arizona iced tea – sweet honey flavor with a touch of lemon. Yum.

Aww, that’s cute that they sell tea like that!

Sil

the tin is also really funny…lots of things to smile about if you read through all the sides etc. heh

Kaylee

The tin is definitely a keeper!

drank LVP by Hooker Tea

I picked this up in store when I was in Tampa. It smells delightful. The mint hits first, but the lavender and vanilla are quick to follow. The flavor is an even balance of refreshing mint and soothing lavender, rounded out with vanilla and a woodsy rooibos. The mintiness lingers long after the sip. I’ll be sad when this is gone…

Trapped in a dull meeting. Ugh.

I had this for my travel-mug breakfast tea today. I generally dislike smokiness in my tea. However, it is fairly mild here. Turns out smoky works well with maple. The banana adds a sweet creaminess that rounds out the flavor. Overall, a solid start to the day.
