41 Tasting Notes
Recently we traveled to Japan and finding good Japanese teas was high on my list. I found this tea store in Takayama and bought some of their Sencha and some Genmaicha. I haven’t tried the Genmaicha yet, but have been drinking the Sencha for several weeks. I have to say that it is the best Sencha I have had. It has some matcha in it and that gives it a much stronger taste that straight Sencha. I should rate it Strong but the way I make it, it comes out more of a medium Sencha. it has good grassy aroma and although the tea store says that Sencha from this region has a bitterness, I find the taste excellent.

Tung Ting is a lightly fired oolong which has a beautiful floral aroma. This tea should be lightly extracted and reused several times, each time giving it a little more time. It is a very subtle taste and should not be brewed strong.

Brewed up a delicious cup on this my favorite Lapsong Suchong tea. It has been my favorite for over 40 years. Many Lapasong Suchongs are too strong for many tea drinkers. This one is just right, strong, but subtle, all the notes come through. MTW is the only supplier that gets this quality from Formosa Island. It made my morning,

Got back from a 3 month trip living off of the Darjeeling teas I could find in Mexico. Finally this morning I brewed a cup of Mark T Wendell Darjeeling, my favorite Darjeeling and what a wonderful experience. It’s just the best. Slightly brisk and full flavored.
Note that the Steepster site lists this teas and unavailable. Not so. IT IS AVAILABLE!!!!

I really like Harney’s Amba Ceylon but when I went to order some I found it to be out of stock. I checked with a number of other vendors, with the same result. A google search turned up Single Origen Teas in Texas and they had some in stock. I ordered 2 – 2 oz packets and it is as good as the Harney’s Amba Ceylon.
It is a very wonderful tea with a really deep smell and flavor. It is light enough to be drunk without cream or sugar, my normal way of drinking it. But often I’ll add some sugar if I drink it in the afternoon. It is an excellent and very unique tea.
Preparation
Glad to hear you enjoy it! Amba is a tricky estate due to its small size It has maybe 6 acres in production. A private buyer buys up all of the dry season production; so come August/September everyone’s Amba is usually running low! I tend to stock up right before the dry season hits just to be prepared.
We should be stocking Amba’s Chai blend with spices all grown either on the estate or right next to it. Next time you order (and if we have it in stock!) mention it on your order form (or send us an e-mail) and I’ll pass on a sample so you can try some. :)
When I look on my tea app this is the number one tea that I drink. Whatever I drink, I always come back to this one. It is an excellent Darjeeling. I have had a number of others: more expensive but not better, some too brisk for a Darjeeling, but this one really has qualities and price that make it the one I always reach for.
Preparation
I just got this in yesterday from Harney. I brewed up a cup this morning, 5 minutes in the steep and drank it with cream and sugar. It’s really a beautiful tea, very mellow but with a decent kick to it. I’ll have to try it tomorrow without the cream, just a little sugar and see how that is. A very nice tea.
Preparation
This one has been on my shelf for a while forgotten for the moment. I usually drink black tea with a little sugar and no milk or cream. I tried another tea in the morning with half and half so I decided in the afternoon to give this a try with half and half. I found that I like it a lot better that way. It reminds me of a Russian Caravan type tea. It has that Lapsang Soochong slight smoky flavor. It is very smooth and with cream and sugar it was very enjoyable.
Preparation
I keep coming back to this one. It has a wonderful flavor that I don’t find the equal of in other Ceylons. I got the Harney catalog and was not too surprised to find it not listed in their current catalog while it is still listed online. I suspect that it is not a high volume item but I am afraid that it will disappear one day. It’s one of the nicest teas in my cupboard. I hope they continue to carry it.
