Hida Kanayama Sencha. Hida Kanayama is 80km south from Hida Takayama and this is only tea made from Hida region. Compare to the region of plain, Hida region has a handicap about growing tea leaves(germination, plucking).

However, Hida Kanayama cha grows well and It has been demonstrated that soil of Hida Kanayama is good for growth of tea leaves. The taste of Hida Kanayama cha is little bitter, however, there is distinctive aroma of Miyamacha.(tea leaves which growing in deep in the mountain).

Recently we traveled to Japan and finding good Japanese teas was high on my list. I found this tea store in Takayama and bought some of their Sencha and some Genmaicha. I haven’t tried the Genmaicha yet, but have been drinking the Sencha for several weeks. I have to say that it is the best Sencha I have had. It has some matcha in it and that gives it a much stronger taste that straight Sencha. I should rate it Strong but the way I make it, it comes out more of a medium Sencha. it has good grassy aroma and although the tea store says that Sencha from this region has a bitterness, I find the taste excellent.
