I actually liked it better with less leaf shorter steep times – it was more neutral for me. More leaf, longer steep was too clove and something “metallic”? that I didn’t like came out of the base. However less leaf, shorter steep was way too bland for me – didn’t really taste like anything when hot, was better when it cooled but still pretty subtle for my tastes.

Aww, so sorry I’ve misled you with my “heavy on the leaf” usual parameters. I’m gonna have to try this one and see if I get that metallic feel, you,ve got me intrigued…I’ve had the Doke Rolling Thunder by itself and didn’t get that but it’s very possible that it comes out when paired with flavouring and steeped too long, oolongs have that tendency sometimes…
No I think it was too mild with less leaf. This is a perfect example of my issue with Butiki flavored tea. Standard leaf, standard steep times and it’s way too mild. Add some leaf and some steep time and then the flavors aren’t as intended. I still think there is something in the air here that just won’t let these work for me. I’m using bottled water for the next one, speak nicely to the tea gods, and see if that makes a difference….
