drank Lemon Meringue Pie by Almost Tea

Sipdown! (16 | 16)

And we’re back to the Almost subscription teas, hoping to finish them off today.

So this one is an oolong base, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it’s a rolled green oolong, as opposed to the generic oxidized strip type I often see in blends (looking at you, Adagio). I used both sachets for a 16-ounce pot, and I probably should have used a bit more water, because my gravity steeper was half full of leaves once they unfurled. So maybe these sachets should be used in 10-12 ounces of water.

Anyway, so the flavor is quite strong because of that, but still pleasant. The oolong itself actually seems like nice quality, it has some floral notes and a silky texture. Not my favorite type of oolong, but still seems nice. The lemon is somewhere between lemon drops and Pledge, although it may just be the floral from the oolong that’s combining with it to give me those cleaner-y notes.

It’s tasty enough. Does it taste like pie? No, it just tastes like a sweet lemon oolong. There’s nothing that reminds me of meringue or crust, just sweet and candy-ish lemon.

Flavors: Artificial, Candy, Chemical, Floral, Green, Lemon, Lemon Zest, Perfume, Silky, Sweet, Thick

I just got home from a trip and need to drop by my friend’s house who picked up my mail and see if my subscription arrived too!

Yay, can’t wait to read your thoughts! You’re the only other person I know who’s trying this. :3

Gah! It’s not at my friend’s house! I don’t know if it hasn’t been sent or if it was stolen out of my mail while I was gone. Not sure if the company sends them all out at once or in waves.

They did send me an email when they sent it out, with the subject “Your Almost Tea renewal order from December is complete”. But the tracking number in it doesn’t work lol… >>

Dustin

I don’t have that email yet, just a “What’s inside next month’s Almost box” email. Crossing fingers it’s on it’s way soon!

Hi, I’m Cameron!

I’m a 30-something software engineer currently living in Austin, Texas with my husband and our two pugs, Gobo and Ume. I tend to cycle between my different hobbies, and they include piano, knitting, video games, board games, miniature painting, planners, bento, Korean skincare, and – of course – TEA! But really, what I’m best at is “collecting” hobby-related things… ;)

I prefer my tea lukewarm or at room temperature and without milk or sugar. I steep Western style, and fluctuate between using big mugs or small teapots depending on the season.

I am always up for a swap! Just let me know if you’d like to try something in my cupboard.

Tea Preferences:
I enjoy both flavored and unflavored teas in many forms. These days, I drink mostly flavored teas, and I tend to gravitate most toward black, green, oolong, and herbal varieties. I do have a special fondness for straight Japanese green teas, however.

I do not sweeten my teas, and pre-sweetened teas are usually too sweet for me. I also do not enjoy stevia (or monkfruit, etc.).

I tend to reach for fruitier flavors rather than desserty ones these days, but I do have favorites from both categories. Willing to try anything once! There are a few ingredients/flavors that aren’t generally my jam, such as coconut, rose, lavender, and chocolate flavoring. But I also have teas that I love with some of those things, too! :)

Favorite Companies:
3 Leaf
Bird & Blend
Dammann Frères
Harney & Sons
Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms
Lupicia
Old Barrel Tea Co
Simpson & Vail
Taiwan Tea Crafts
TeaVivre

Tea Rating Scale:
90-100: Outstanding! Permanent cupboard resident
80-89: Great – a possible staple
70-79: Good, but I wouldn’t buy it
60-69: It’s decent
50-59: Meh… I may or may not have finished the cup
40-49: Ick. Couldn’t finish it.
00-39: Repulsive, I spat it out

I will sometimes refrain from rating a tea if I feel I’m too biased due to my personal dislikes, or if I suspect the sample has been compromised by age or scent contamination.
