2718 Tasting Notes
Okay these Bird & Blend teas are making me wish I’d made a less restrained order. This is so good. I don’t know how they accomplish this authentic cake flavor, but it’s there! The rooibos they use is tasty, and it’s really the perfect base for the cake flavor. It’s vanilla and icing and rich cakey flavor. This has to be one of my new favorite teas. I do wish it didn’t include black tea. I drank it at night without realizing, but everything turned out okay, I guess since there’s very little black tea in there. I had the second steep cold today, and it’s fantastic too.
Thanks to meowster for sending me a large bag of this tea last summer. I’ve been making pitchers of this for my fridge all year! It’s very refreshing. The flavor is clear and bright and doesn’t seem to age. I’m a big mint fan, and with this one, you’re getting exactly what you expect.
This was a free sample in my April order. I’ve never had matcha, so this was interesting to try. I mixed the sample packet with a half cup of hot milk, and I must say that this was not what I expected. It tastes like buttery seaweed. It’s a bit salty as well, but I was not getting caramel. I don’t mind being able to taste the green tea, but the saltiness just makes it taste totally like seaweed, which was not good. I shared it with some family members and they said it tasted like creamy fish. I’ll have to try a better matcha sometime to give it a fair shot.
Thanks to AliceG for sending a sample of this! I’ve always wanted to try genmaicha, but I’ve never gotten around to it. The main flavor is the toasted rice. At first, it was surprisingly savory, but it’s actually kind of addicting. The more I drink it, the more I like it! It reminds me of some popcorn teas I’ve enjoyed in the past. Since I haven’t had other genmaichas, I can’t compare this to others, but I can say that it’s tasty! The green tea is hiding behind the rice, which I don’t mind. It makes a good second steep too.
I saved a sample of this from the last tea box – so thanks! As soon as I steeped this, I realized it would not really be my thing. It smells like it would be a tasty dinner, but it’s not what I want in a tea. I’m not too good at picking out individual flavors, especially when there are so many. I can just say that it’s quite savory with some sour rose and a bit of bitterness (possibly my fault) and that I tasted all herbs and not so much the tea itself. I won’t leave a rating since this is all a matter of personal taste – someone else might love this blend!
I’m always looking for a great decaf earl grey. I have four ounces of this one, so I certainly hope I like it! Hmm it’s a pretty light earl grey. I tend to prefer them a bit stronger since I make them into lattes. Not strong enough for a second steep, though I find that decaf black teas usually aren’t. I suppose I’m a bit disappointed, but it’s good enough to keep drinking.
Also I had a wonderful Thai tea at a restaurant that reminded me that I have some loose leaf Thai tea at home that I haven’t made in a while.
I’ve been in search of good maple teas for the past year, so I had to try this one. I bought it during the Black Friday sale and am only just not trying it. The teas come in ziplock pouches, and unfortunately, I noticed that this one wasn’t actually sealed all the way. I never opened it, so it must have arrived that way in November. That’s not encouraging. I’m sadly not getting any maple flavor. All I taste are the spices, but the combination reminds me of a particular Adagio chai tea that I dislike. It’s just not a pleasant combo of spices for my tastes. I guess I won’t leave a rating in case the mapleness escaped through the unsealed package, but I’m not too pleased with my experience with this one. The flavors are strong, they’re just not accurate and not for me.
I’m not usually a big fan of Adagio’s fruit blends, but I wanted to get to the free shipping threshold without buying a ton of ounces of tea, so I just bought a bunch of samples. Anyway, this one smells very similar to dewy cherry, which I don’t love, so that’s not a great sign. It tastes very similar as well with mostly just a fake cherry flavor muddled with something else almost chalky tasting. Cold is much better than hot, but I still would not recommend this tea over other flavors.
I almost didn’t buy this one since I assumed it would be tart and artificial. I’m happy to be wrong because this is delicious. The fruity flavor is clear, sweet, light, and, unlike many fruit teas, it’s actually great hot. I’m craving another cup already.
I’m glad you’re liking Bird & Blend. I haven’t forgotten we are supposed to swap Key Lime Pie / Eton Mess (at least those). I’m still not ready to swap yet…
Oh you’re totally fine! I’ve got piles of tea – take your time!
