From the SanTEA Claus TTB

I think this is the last tea I need to review from this ttb. It’s taken me a while, but hey, I got it done. :)

I’m not a huge fan of white teas, but this one was a treat. The toffee flavor was light but present throughout the sip, and the tea itself had a clean – almost sweet – flavor. It was nice and refreshing while also feeling like a dessert tea.

This sample came from Mandy. I really need to stop requesting so many flavored samples from people, as I tend to not like them so much anymore. This one looks like a shou mei with a few flower petals mixed in. It has that alcoholic flavoring smell to it, meh. I steeped it for 3 minutes although the package recommended 2 minutes.

Meh, this tea is just kind of unremarkable. It doesn’t really taste like toffee to me, closer to caramel, and even then it’s mostly just vaguely sugary. I can definitely taste that it’s artificial flavoring. The white tea itself isn’t great either, it’s quite “rough” tasting for a white tea – it reminds me of autumn leaves.

Overall, meh. This one will go in the rehoming box.

Tea #2 from Pass the Stash box

I would have liked more toffee flavor, but I don’t have any of the toffee squares in the sample. Still, this does taste like toffee on top of the delicate white base. I think these work well together. I just would have liked a more pronounced toffee flavor.

Nice, light, and refreshing…I must be a big fan of the white base, because I rate these fairly highly.

Backlog 6/67

Updating after realizing I confused one set of notes with another. :D

Not bad. It tastes of toffee. It’s sweet enough to be good. The brown-sugarish flavor of toffee is definitely not bad with white tea.

When I was tasting it and making notes I wrote: Slight toffee, Could drink, not bad.

I think that sums it up. :)

Didn’t taste much toffee to be honest, unless the taste of toffee is really off in my head. xD Which could be the case since I haven’t had it in forever. :p
It does taste a bit like toffee, but I’m getting a more buttery taste.
Kinda weird. Not sure what to think!
Thanks for the sample, Mandy! (:

Thanks to the TTB-C R2 I was able to sample another lovely tea. I love toffee and this is only mildly toffee. It is good and the white tea base is a change from the common black dessert teas. I would love a little more toffee, but I’m crazy. I added a bit of stevia (Ah, my old friend) It’s nice and the toffee flavor becomes a bit more prominent. I probably wouldn’t keep it in my cupboard but I would always drink a cup if it were in a swap or TTB.
My husband and I got back from our mini vacation. I did a LOT of walking and my sprained knee handled it well. I’m not sore at all. I am still wearing a brace but more for additional support. YEAH!!! I’m so glad to be back to being able to exercise. And yes, I’m still taking breaks and being careful with it. I don’t want to have to start over again!

Thank you Zen Tea for this sample.

The raw leaf does have a light toffee scent, nutty and dry with some sweetness. The white tea (Pai Mu Tan) is mostly whole leaf with some stems/sticks present and what looks like blue cornflowers.

Once steeped the tea is burnt yellow and has a light, buttery toffee scent. Very nice! Flavour is very nutty with a sweet butter toffee after taste that has some dryness. Has a slight chemical taste after my first cup but it’s not off putting, could just be flavour of the nuts sticking out. I would say walnut.

More nuts than toffee in overall flavour but it’s paired well with the Pai Mu Tan white tea base. A little too dry in the after taste for my personal liking but the flavour was nice. I would try this again but wouldn’t keep it in stock.

I’m generally a fan of toffee flavoured teas and flavoured whites…but this one falls just a little flat. I think toffee goes better with dark teas, personally, so I came into this a little prejudiced.

With that said, this has these delightful caramel notes that linger after each drink. The white base is mellow and smooth, but I find myself hoping for a little more of something in terms of flavour.

It’s not a bad tea, but just not something that I’m excited about.
