My first Whispering Pines package arrived! GO should hopefully arrive tomorrow. I can’t wait to try it. Can’t. Wait!

In the meantime, this tea is fantastic! It reminds me of Laoshan Black with the dark chocolate aroma/taste and the tea is very flavorful and rich. So glad I was able to try it as it will need to be a reorder for sure. I asked my husband if he wanted to partake. He sniffed the bag he gave me a thumbs up. I was hesitant to make a whole big pot if he didn’t like it because it isn’t the cheapest tea. He laughed and replied, “Enjoy it! Are you saving it for the Dutchess or something?” Lol, but he does have a point. I am always so inclined to horde tea that I really love and I need to stop. So I steeped a large teapot worth and was glad for it. I’d rather spend the moola to have a lot of a tea that I really love than a lot of teas that I am meh about.

I will post a more in-depth review when I have some time later this week, but it is rich, dark chocolately, and malty with a touch of sweet fruitiness. Yum! I tried it straight and with agave added and it is quite good both ways- the flavor profile is more notably chocolate with nothing added and the cherry profile makes more of an appearance with sweetener. Great tea!

I always prefer resteeping multiple small pots worth instead of making one big pot of something :) You can get at least 3 good steeps out of this one, too!

Nightshifter

Oh, that’s good to know! I am not the best at resteeping normally (don’t tell the avid resteepers), but I will try it next time. :)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Hehe, MzPriss and TheTeaFairy never resteeped until they tried some of my teas that resteep AMAZINGLY (Golden Orchid, Cocoa Amore, Port, pretty much the entire Vanilla Dreams Collection). I even find that I like the second infusion more quite often!

Je t’aime Cocoa Amore! (I know I know I’m mixing my French and Italian)

The smell of juicy sweet plump cherries wafts up from this tea upon opening the bag followed by rich sweet chocolate.

I drank this after several steeps of GO and was nervous about expanding into the full world of Vanilla Dreams? What if I’d built it up in my mind? What if GO was a one off fluke and I just bought all this tea that wouldn’t live up to the promise Golden Orchid made me?

But my Amore, she did not disappoint. In fact… * gasp * I may indeed like her even better than GO. She is even more intense and passionate. Like a sexy flamenco dancer dressed in vibrant red.

I drank 4 infusions of CA and though it morphed and evolved it never got weak. Those luscious chocolate cherries. I had my last cup over 4 hours ago and it’s flavor is fresh in my mind. In all her desserty glory it never forgets that she is first and for most a tea. The chocolate and cherry rises organically from the tea, enhancing it not masking it.

I’m already in bed, ready to go to sleep but I want to go make another cup of this so badly. It’s going to take a lot of self restraint to stay in bed and not wander into the kitchen in the middle of the night.

Wow. Just wow.

Thank you steepster for introducing me to so many amazing teas.

Yay!!! Now you understand :-) and great review!!

mj

Awesome review :-) It makes me want to try this even more!

Stephanie

Sounds dreamy

Frolic

Yes Tea Fairy you have made me a true convert just through your reviews!

It truly is dreamy. I’m drinking another cup right now and it’s even better than I remembered it.

TheTeaFairy

Haha! Frolic, I love converting people to WP, it’s an easy thing to do :-) so happing you like it as much as I do…I even bought a poster of it, that how much I love it! Now you must try port, it’s back in stock in case you haven’t notice ;-)

Frolic

I saw that but sadly I’m banned from buying any more tea for quite some time so no Port for me :(

I will enjoy the many nommy teas I already own though and there will be a time for Port.

TheTeaFairy

Yes, very wise, keep it for a special time frolic, it is worth all your attention :-)

Frolic

That’s what I’m learning with WP teas. They are to be sipped and savored.

When I read that it was best to let GO age a bit and notice how it’s flavor profile evolves the first thought in my head was “how will I ever be able to make this oz last more than a week!”

Now I know that these are amazingly satisfying teas. It may take some will power to not just gulp down the nommy richness, but it will be it’s own reward.

Helene

Can we get this tea in Canada?

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Hi Helene! WP Teas are available exclusively through www.whisperingpinestea.com. Shipping to Canada is $10 up to $75 and then free :-)

Helene

Thank you, I have never heard of your company before. I will look at your website. I can live with $10 shipping tea if the tea is worth buying :)

TheTeaFairy

Oh, Helene…it IS worth it, beleive me!!!

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Helene, here’s a 15% off coupon for first-time customers :-) “sip-inspiration”

Helene

Hubby worked in LA for 5 yrs and now is in Asia. It’s too back I did not know about Whispering Pines Tea Co before, I would have shipped him so tea. I will take the 15% off coupon, that will help. Thanks so much!

Helene

Would you tell me how many cups of tea will I get from this Cocoa Amore please?

Helene

I meant if I order 1 ounce of this tea.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

If you do the recommended 3 infusions, Cocoa Amore will give you at approximately 36 cups worth per ounce.

Helene

Thanks for the answer. Can we order this tea in smaller bags?

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Unfortunately I can’t offer samples of Cocoa Amore, but I can give you a money-back guarantee that it’s delicious! :)

Helene

That’s great, I’m sure I would love it anyway :)

Yum.

Needed something I could taste this morning. This was the tea I picked.

Oh so yummy.

Even sick, I can taste this one, rich, cocoa-y, vanilla-y.

And now I want to go up north. It’s a good weekend for it, too, from what I hear. The leaves should be spectacular. Nope. I’m curled up on the couch, still sick.

http://instagram.com/p/tvKN5LAyTE/

K S

Feel better soon!

Cheri

I’m actually feeling a ton better today than I have been feeling, but I’m still definitely sick. I have a feeling that the weekend spent doing nothing but drinking tea and chilling on my couch will help a ton.

Lariel of Lórien

Believe in the powers of CA, and feel better.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

It’s POURING rain. Terrible weekend…And the colors are already past peak :-(

Cheri

Downstate we’re just starting to turn. Upper Lower is probably perfect right now.

But yes, it’s raining here, too. Lousy. I’m glad I’m stuck inside.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

I do enjoy the sound of the rain while having tea, though :-)

Cheri

It is a good combination.

This is liquid dessert! With the perfect hint of vanilla, chocolate and cherries my only downside is that its caffeinated so I can’t drink it every evening before bed!

I have been excited to try this since my favorite Teacret Agents: TheTeaFairy and MzPriss, posted their reviews from the samples they received. So here we go…

Method: 1.5 tsp, 8 oz, 200 degrees, 3 minutes, brew-in-mug strainer & Dr. Who mug

Dry Leaf Aroma: I do not work for WP and I am telling you the honest to goodness truth – this smells EXACTLY like those gooey chocolate covered cherry candies, specifically the ones with the cherry surrounded by cherry goo and vanilla goo, then covered in chocolate. I brought the bag of tea into the living room, and I’m sitting on the couch, opening it and smelling the tea, then closing it to let the aromas accumulate again, then sniffing. It’s like a cherry-vanilla-chocolate heaven.

Brewing Aroma: Oddly, this just smells like tea, with a light creamy note. I don’t smell cherry. I start to get a little sad.

Flavor: I take a sip. Tastes like black tea, with a lovely sweetness, but WHERE’S THE CH…

Ooohhh. There you are, sneaky monkey. The cherry is hiding on the end of the sip, and it’s not on every single sip. However; when it’s there, it’s just lovely.

I have a feeling that this one may even get better with a little age. I have about 8000 lbs of pu’erh to keep me busy for awhile, so I’d like to try not to drink this, let it sit just a couple weeks, then see what’s what.

Even though I know this isn’t scented or flavored with cherry, my mind doesn’t seem willing to believe it. What tea magic is this??? :)

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
MzPriss

All of the vanilla teas with real vanilla beans get better with a little age They get smoother and even more lovely. I am enjoying a cup right along with you right now.

SarsyPie

Yep, that’s what I was thinking, schmoopie. I know that my GO improves with a little time, so I hoped this would be the same. Not that it’s bad AT ALL. I just think it’s the sort to mellow nicely and get smooooooth, like buttah.

TheTeaFairy

(It’s subbliminal cherries!!!) Yay, glad you like this one….I like it so much, I ordered the poster to have it framed in my kitchen, lol. (And I would love to get me a few beans of that tahitian vanilla!)

SarsyPie

I have some sort of vanilla beans… I wonder what kind. I will have to look!

I gotta try this with some fresh cherries. Or dried cherries. Or cherry pie. Or some of that coconut cream.

TheTeaFairy

Yes! Some sort.

MzPriss

Oh I did cherry compote with the Terricreme

TheTeaFairy

I know, I’m still gushing over that picture!

SarsyPie

Pics, pls. And speaking of, I posted my pu haul for you on the Today’s Mail post, but here it is again.

https://www.flickr.com/x/t/0090009/photos/124304184@N02/14672325832/

Also, picture, in your mind, my new shelf on the wall above this table. It’s white. And it will have my cute little yixing gaiwans when they arrive from far away lands. Can’t wait!

Dexter

(Sars that photo makes ME happy and it’s not even MY tea….)

TheTeaFairy

Lord…I’m in awe. Best “starter kit” ever!!!! Actually, this will not only start you, it will last you for the next five years!!!

SarsyPie

There’s a saying: Go Big or Go Home. LOL I went big!!!!

I really do need to stop now. For realz. I have a few things I want if the Butiki sale happens, and then I want some sleeping bear and jabber. But that’s it. Two orders. Then NO MORE TEA.

I know I am (sort of) a grown up, and I should show some self-restraint, that’s not really my thing. Moral support will be appreciated!!! Whatever it takes! Dex: please drive to PA and hip check me if I even LOOK at a new tea! :p

Dexter

Got it – Butiki sale and TWO teas from WP… and then no looking – but for how long? What’s the goal?
I think there are a bunch of us who should be stopping, and we should be supporting each other – not that I would complain about a trip to PA for a little enforcing… ;))

SarsyPie

Good questions… At least 2 months. Hopefully more. The goal, beyond not buying more than I can drink, is to be happy with what I have. That’s more of a personal Sarsy goal.

Also, I am going to stop enabling all of you! Instead, I think we should find new ways to enjoy our existing teas, either by mixing, icing or mixing and then icing.

Maybe we need to do a google+ Teahab Support Meeting once a month or something.

SarsyPie

Oh, and I am cancelling my subscription services.

Nxtdoor

I know it’s going to be hard for all of you but you HAVE to stop reading about tea and looking at websites and seeing what everyone else is drinking. I didn’t have a problem as big as yours might be, but it was a problem. I was spending money I didn’t have on tea. I mean if I had the cash maybe I wouldn’t have worried. But I was borrowing money (credit card) to buy tea. So I kinda stopped looking around at all the tea I didn’t have. I read steepster notes but without focusing on the specifics. So “oh my god, that sounds so good, what tea is THAT?” turned into “that’s nice, she’s having a good time”.
I made a purpose of not looking up websites of tea companies. Cause once you’re there the pictures are pretty and they show juicy cherries or something equally colourful.

there’s always gonna be tea and no matter how much you try, you can’t drink all the tea because the tea makers just blend new stuff all the time. So just forget that. But hey, keeping up with the jones’ is an old, old habit. And if you do have the money, I don’t really see a problem with pleasuring oneself :)

I know, it’s unsolicited, but your chatter was inviting.

SarsyPie

Good thoughts, Nxtdoor. I’m not going into tea-debt or anything, but I do (just as part of my personality) tend to go overboard on things in life, not just tea.

I have a good selection of teas now and I think it’s time to focus on enjoying them, which is what I plan to do. :)

Nxtdoor

Unless you get high on buying, not so much on drinking. Like someone I know, not naming names!

TheTeaFairy

I get high both on buying and drinking :-o
Seriously, I totally understand what you are saying nxtdoor and thanks for bringing that out of genuine concern..,
I joke a lot about it all but things are not as out of control as they seem…oh, they are in the sense I could totally put that money somewhere else, but I don’t have kids and have pretty much only myself to take care of… But it is definitely an addiction, not gonna lie…

SarsyPie

Totally agree, TTF. We have quite a few parallels.

I am guilty of retail therapy and I like shopping, but I genuinely love tea. I also joke around about my tea addiction, but I haven’t taken out a 2nd mortgage or anything. :)

Also, no kids, so no one is impacted by my little sprees!

I go back and forth with these attitudes:
-Life is short! Spend it all! Have fun!!!! Wheeeee!
And
- I am an adult. I will behave with decorum. Look at how grown up I can be.

MzPriss

What LTF said. I could do other things with the $ nand really I have too much tea – but it’s GREAT tea and I really am figuring out what I love and getting rid of the things I just HAD to try and now I have some and don’t LOVE it. And I got more mail just now. I got some HOT COWBOY and a pot. But SHOULD I slow down? Absolutely.

SarsyPie

OMG! Which was the hot cowboy? The HOTOT right?

MzPriss

Yes ma’am

TheTeaFairy

These days, and I mean by that in the last 2 months, I hardly bought any tea I dislike. That’s why I keep writing raving reviews, cause I pretty much only drink the teas I love. I’m also getting rid of all the stuff I don’t like and buying those allowed me to figure out what I definitely DON’T like.

And HOT COWBOY…and that pot…lol, thats all it took to get me going again.

(P

MzPriss

You know that’s me too – I’m just drinking stuff I don’t LOVE. I’m rooting around for last little bit of SB

SarsyPie

I think I’ll make that in the AM, HoneyBelle. Last time I had it, I felt happy and serene. Seems like a great way to start my day!

MzPriss

I only have enough for one little cup because I only had a sample and I didn’t know how awesome it was and by the time I did, this month’s was already sold out.

SarsyPie

I got a sample today. But I did talk to Brenden about it. He gave me the timeline, so I’ll be sure to get some of the August harvest. That’s one of my pre-approved purchases. :p

MzPriss

Good sleepytime tea

TheTeaFairy

If you change your mind and still want me to send you some just say so:-)
I’ve been having it almost every night, that’s why I need a monthly subscription…

SarsyPie

I’m going to try my sample tomorrow night. I love a good evening tea to wind down the day with.

Mz HoneyBelle Priss and I were sent this sample for review. She received hers a while ago, but waited that I get mine here in Canada so we could have our tasting together last night. Ain’t she the sweetest thing? Must have been a torture for her to wait that long…

This tea is so darn sexy… parlarmi amore!!

With Elderwood, I was expecting Golden Orchid on steroids, but it turned out to be quite the opposite.

Well, Cocoa Amore is definitely my Golden Orchid on steroids. If GO had a lover, it would be this bad boy.

I’d say our Tea Whiz Of The Woods Brenden is building a trademark for himself with his Vanilla Dreams collection. This new vanilla he uses is insane. And must I insist on vanilla beans here as opposed to vanilla flavouring? HUGE distinction.

Ok…so you know how much I love dark chocolate.

And you know how much I love cherries.

A lot. I mean these are possibly my two favourite things to eat ever.

Combined together with this sophisticated exotic vanilla, they create the perfect storm of nominess. Imagine that for a second. A STORM of nominess.

Just to be clear, the cherries and the chocolate are notes, not flavouring, and this blend is a lot more satisfying than any flavoured tea out there.

The sweet black cherry and rich dark chocolate notes are rounded by the creamy and decadent vanilla, rendering a silky and velvety mouthfeel.

Also, there’s just a glimmer of spice in the background.

It’s so smooth, it never gets bitter or astringent.

Now…When I’m having a mug brew, I generally don’t re-steep. I know, I know, some of you will say, what a waste. This however, with its high end list of ingredients deserves a second infusion…and a third…and dare I say it…a fourth. Yes, excellent re-steeping value. It’s barely diluted. And I’m cold brewing the leaves just in case there’s something left in there for me.

I really don’t need a new favourite tea. No I don’t. But, but…I love my Vanilla Dreams Tea Family. There’s Papa Port, (tommy says Port is masculine) Mamma GO, lovechild Elderwood and new kid on the block Cocoa Amore. Hell yeah, I need them all!!!

Thanks again HoneyBelle (aka MzPriss) for waiting for me so we could drink together from a distance, and thanks Brenden for allowing me to try this scrumptious new blend.

MzPriss

I love this review!!! I love all these Vanilla Dreams teas as well. I really love this one a lot. And I will be waiting impatiently until I can have more.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Hehehe, yes, love it! How about Pappa Port, Momma GO…Elderwood is the son and Cocoa Amore is the daughter…and of course El Dorado is the dog :D

MzPriss

LOL I’m trying that El Dorado puppy today

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Don’t worry, the spices don’t bite ;)

MzPriss

I’ve been looking forward to wee snaily chai

TheTeaFairy

Hahah! Yes, one big happy family! Can’t wait to try the doggy as well….now will there be a kitty in that collection?

Whispering Pines Tea Company

There might just be ;)

MzPriss

I am not at all surprised by that

Cheri

This sounds amazing. I love your reviews.

TheTeaFairy

(I loove kitties)

Cheri, thank you. This tea is amazing…I have just enough for another cup and I think it won’t be long before I have it!

Terri HarpLady

Sounds wonderful!

Tommy Toadman

I sooooo can’t wait to try this one, payday just don’t come soon enough tho, i may have to let Lance buy me some before i get paid hehehe :)

Tommy Toadman

I’ve always thought of my teas as masculine or feminine i dunno why it just always made sense to me

TheTeaFairy

I hope you can get your hands on that one soon enough Tommy!

Tea always has a gender to me, and sometimes, it is androgynous!

Nightshifter

Sounds so good!

TheTeaFairy

Terri, can’t find the post anymore, but I got my tea, I can totally do the Manistee moonrise tasting with you guys tonight!!

Tommy, do you own that tea? We’re paying the full moon a tribute tonight by having this tea all at the same time :-)

MzPriss

I was just going to ask about that – what time Terri?

Terri HarpLady

Oh….whenever the moon is rising in each of our respective cities? LOL
OR….we can select an actual time…hmmm
Whatever you guys want to do

TheTeaFairy

What time is it for you now Terri?

Ever wonder what sweet chocolate love tastes like? Yes, I said SWEET. CHOCOLATE. LOVE. With a cherry on top? Wonder no more damas y caballeros – Cocoa Amore is here to show you exactly what it tastes like. Actually it tastes like Cherry Whoppers. If Cherry Whoppers actually existed and were made by Godiva out of truly excellent chocolate and with real cherries! Brought to you by Brenden & the Magic Vanilla Beans. I know you’re asking, “What’s that you say Mz HoneyBelle Priss? That’s a bunch of mixed up funky stuff.” It sounds that way, but in reality it’s a chocolate-vanilla Cherry Bomb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYf_NM_lCLI) y’all:

Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I’m your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb
Hello world I’m your wild girl
I’m your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb!

First I have to say, I’ve been SMELLING this for a week. OK so huffing it might be slightly more accurate. But it was here and I was waiting for the LovelyTeaFairy’s (LTF) sample to get to Canada. I kept sending her notes saying, “chocolate covered cherries!”

I started out very, very carefully following Brenden’s parameters of ½ tablespoon in 8 ounces of 200 degree water for 3 minutes and zero seconds. We always try to mind him on the first round.

As soon as that timer went off, I poured up a deep amber cup and inhaled a malty chocolate cherry nose-bomb. It’s medium-bodied, but it’s a body that won’t quit (more on that later….foreshadowing!)

Luscious liquid cocoacherrymaltvanilla bliss. All of those elements are very present, with the vanilla the most in the background on the first steep. But I’m not kidding – this is sublime. It is right up close to Golden Orchid for me and that is saying quite a lot. GO is a sweet dream of a tea and so is this. It’s got lots of bottom with the cocoa and the malt with a sprightly cherry bit and that silky smooth vanilla to make it mellow and it is so sweet with a deep caramel note – a real cuplicker.

On the second steep, I went for 4 minutes. There was less cherry, the coca was still definitely there as it mellows out to a less malty cocoa and it still has plenty of body. It is a deep cocoa powdery kind of cocoa and at this point a slight bit of cinnamon starts to peek in.

The third and fourth steeps (yes, it re-steeps awesomely), the malt diminishes but there is still some cocoa and vanilla with the cinnamon waving from a distance. For the last half of the 4th steep, I decided to go Terri-style and added ½ teaspoon of maple syrup to it and that brought the cocoa back. A delicious way to finish this.

Oh! There were still some leaves in the bottom of the teapot that sat there for quite a while – at least 15 minutes – no way was I just pouring that out. I was quite surprised to find there was no bitterness or astringency – just really strong, still delicious tea.

So I will be waiting impatiently with the rest of y’all until I can have a supply of this. This one is very very very near to Golden Orchid awesomeness for me and that is an extremely high bar. And once more LTF – such a delight to get to share this with you!
