From Verdant Tea

This blend was born out of a special collaboration between Verdant Tea and local yoga practitioners with the goal of creating a tea to help yoga studio clients leave the weight of the world behind them and prime them for the focusing experience of yoga. With the cleansing and sweet upper notes of peppermint and spearmint, the lingering spice and thickness of Holy Basil and a base of solid burdock, this blend has been a great success. This tea rises to the challenge of being both comforting and cleansing, making it a popular flu season go-to. The Holy Basil Spa Blend is also great iced, or brewed up as a concentrated shot to mix with sparkling water and a touch of honey.

Ingredients: Peppermint, Spearmint, Holy Basil, Fennel, Burdock Root, Ginger, Licorice Root

Verdant orders are here! I’ll try to save the one I was most curious about (Golden Fleece) for last. It will be a test of self-control, haha.

The Holy Basil Spa Blend was originally something I added to my order to bump it above the free shipping line. I’m not big into herbal teas, but this blend sounded unique and interesting. Visually it’s quite pleasing, being a blend of many different colors and shapes of leaves. The dry tea has a bright mint aroma, which once brewed reveals many other herbal notes in the background. I’m not knowledgeable enough to identify what they all are, but the overall effect is almost vegetable-stock-like, in a good way.

The flavor of the tea is minty but not sharp, the mint being balanced out by all the other ingredients. The overall effect is cooling and slightly sweet. Very refreshing and calming, especially at the end of a long day. While I don’t have anything similar to compare it to and therefore won’t rate it for now, I do think this will become a staple evening tea, and something to try iced as well.

I had a sample of this from I don’t know when. I really liked it and enjoyed chewing up the little fennel seeds. Weird thing about this tea: I was suddenly brought back to Hanukkah at the end of one sip, and then again. Then birthday cake? Something about this taste brought back to me the smell of colorful melting candle wax. This is the second time I’ve gotten a wax taste from a tea. I wonder what this is…
