By the aroma of this one, I was definitely underwhelmed. It smelled floral, leading me to bemoan the person who decided that “pear” and “floral” should be BFFs. So naturally, I was dreading taking a sip. However, I am pleasantly surprised. This tea does actually taste like sweet pears. I’m not getting cream from anything but pear? Very much yes. It’s like Jelly Belly pear, except less artificial.

Now, I prefer D’Anjou pears, so this is not/will not be my perfect pear tea, but it’s certainly one of the better ones I’ve encountered. A few points have to be taken off for the base tea, however, because I’m just not fond of rooibos, and as usual, scratchy throat syndrome is occurring as I sip, which is unpleasant. But overall, pretty impressed and glad to have tried this one!

i like this one :)

Is that your way of subtly requesting more? :P I’m happy to pass on the rest of mine if you’d like. It’s just enough for a Sil cup, probably. I’m happy to have tasted this one, but that’s about it. And I still have Caramelized Pear to finish off.

Sil

no subtlty here. Just making a statement lol

SO i have to say that this one smells wonderful…and then you let it steep forever and it’s fine. and then..you drink it and i kid you not, it totally tastes like the liquid left over at the end of a fruit cup…only not nearly as sweet. My other half tried it and was like “man…i totally half expect to see one of those cherries floating around in the tea” and that ladies and gentlemen, sums up this tea. Love it lol

Sounds bizarre!

Sil

it’s actually not… generally at the end of the fruit cup it’s all the pear flavour anyway since it’s nearly filler in those things :)

I forgot I had tried this one but I received a nice new tin from Twiggles! Thanks so much! This aroma makes your nose-hairs dance (and my grandfather used to say). It’s really potent but I like it! This is MUCH different than I remember – after rereading my tasting notes from a while back! I really like this and am going to increase the rating! This time around I can taste the pear more but it also reminds me of another tea (from Drink T, I believe) that had Apricot Pulp in the loose leaf mix…perhaps it’s pear pulp!? Regardless it’s fruity and nutty and nice! I can really taste the fruit this time! YUM!

Green rooibos! The best rooibos! I think it is especially suited to fruity blends. This particular rooibos, I couldn’t pass up while I was picking up black tea samples for research purposes. :) I’ve read some great reviews for this and who doesn’t like fruit and cream?

This tea smells pretty fantastic. It’s definitely like real pear. I really love pears when they are soft but not mealy and juicy and sweet. It’s so hard to find a pear in that perfect state! Why is it so hard? Well this tea smells like that luscious juicy pear with a hint of vanilla creaminess. Nicely done! The taste is pretty light, but perhaps I used a bit more liquid than I should have. It is very well flavored too. Not artificial or apple-y like some other pear teas. It’s got a bit of odd tartness, but this not bad at all. It’s not as creamy as I had hoped. I think it would benefit from a thicker mouthfeel. Not sure how that might be accomplished though.

Over all, a very enjoyable tea. :)

Sil

Ooooh pear tea!

Yummmmmm now this is one that needs to be purchased in a larger amount! I only got a sample but a nice healthy sample it is! We will see if I crave it once it is gone.
Actually tastes like pear!
No sugar need be added although if you want more of a dessert tea you could add a little. Would be excellent with some milk or cream added but already has a lovely creamy flavor!
I really do like Upton’s cream flavors – I think I read some where others do not? I enjoy them very much thus far between this tea and a strawberry cream tea I had last night.
Did I log that? I don’t know but anyway back to this tea …
I do believe I enjoy the green rooibos more than red. Honestly, I didn’t realize until recently there was a green rooibos so now I am not sure if I have had green before or not. Need to check that out but I do really like this rooibos a lot – its earthy as I think Dylan or Missy had stated.
I could see this tea being simply excellent iced!
For sure staying in my shopping list for now!
Going to cold brew some, enjoy a couple more hot cups and see how it resteeps if at all.
:) Nice cup!

More about the wonders of green rooibos. If you all keep this up, I’ll be running to the store (or guiding my hand to the appropriate website) to buy some green rooibos.

Lucy

I do enjoy green rooibos too! Red rooibos makes me very hesitant when it is added to a tea I am considering. But green… now I can drink green any day.

Azzrian

Yeah I am curious to try more green rooibos or at least figure out which of the ones I have are green but I don’t think I have any other greens.

Lucy

I have been getting to know green rooibos through the DT’s Super Chocolate. I really enjoy it as it doesn’t taste like rooibos at all, even though that is the first ingredient (followed by green tea.. which it is labeled as a green tea.. this always confuses/annoys me. If the main base is not green tea – do not list it as such and charge green tea prices for it. Bogus.)

CHAroma

Red rooibos and green rooibos are two different animals. I much prefer the latter.

While I was steeping this tonight my app killer shut off my time and it got stuck. Good thing it’s a kangeroo. This is a pretty good night time tea. Dylan really likes it so it has earned a coveted spot in my cupboard.

The kangeroo plays very nicely with the pear and cream flavors. I find it to be very light despite my epic steeping time. (Dylan doesn’t know I steep red rocks for 15 minutes or so). The pear actually tastes like a regular pear and not some soapy interpretation of a pear. The nice creamy flavor serves to tie the pear to the kangeroo. It’s the Beringia of this tea. Today I learned that was the name for the bridge people crossed to get here from Asia. Any who, this is a nice tea to drink later at night with out the caffeine.

!! Have you… found a great pear tea?! Oh man. This is suddenly on my must-try list! Your rating is too high for me to ignore!

Missy

Let me see what’s left of the sample. If I have enough for a cup I’ll send some your way. :)

Kittenna

Oh! That’s ok – I wasn’t trying to request a sample :) If you want to hang onto it for a future swap it’s up to you, but I just threw it onto my shopping list to eventually try :D

Missy

Oh I was just making sure. Besides it’s nice to share. :)

TeaBrat

I’ve been eyeing this myself. Glad to hear you like it.

Here’s Hoping Traveling Tea Box #7
Mmmmmmmmm! I am not a red rooibos kind of girl, but green roibos? Sign me up! Yummy! This tea is very appealing to the eye with the sunflower petals. I actually bought some sunflowers the other day so I had to share! Not only my flowers but my cute cup I picked up at TJ MAXX today :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/20741867@N05/10635363724/
This tea was very pleasant. The pear and cream paired well together. I sweetened it a little and it brought the juiciness of the pear out! Perfect for bedtime!

Melanie was kind enough to send me a sample of this green rooibos. I’ve got to tell you, the smell of this dry is amazing. Smells like cream cheese frosting!

Brewed for 10 minutes…there’s still a hint of the frosting scent, but the rooibos is there as well.

I can taste the rooibos, of course, and there’s this creamy pear taste that is just delicious! I really think it tastes like you’ve dipped a semi-tart pear into cream cheese frosting. It’s not a combination that I would think to try, but it works!! And works very well. This is fantastic. If you like pears, and if you like green rooibos, this is a MUST try!

LOVE a good green rooibos. And I occasionally like a good blend. Had me at tart.

Another from Momo’s teaboxB! I just got the ’Here’s Hoping’ teabox I started back today, but I haven’t opened it yet because I’d really like to get a handle on this teabox first. Teabox B is definitely first priority, but I might not be able to mail both boxes until the same time anyway. I’d like to at least have it ready to go in case I CAN make it to the PO though. I will resist the urge to even open the other teabox for a couple days! It is BIG. There are at least ten more teas I’d like to try from this teabox, but it will probably end up being more.

Anyway, on to the tea. This might be the first straight green rooibos I’ve tried. (I know Teataku after me in the teabox order wants green rooibos so I will just try a teaspoon! :D) It’s actually very nice! Green rooibos seems to pair very well with pear (I swear I didn’t mean to just use pair and pear in the same sentence.) There is less of a cream flavor but there is definitely a pear flavor! Seems kind of like apple at times. But the pear is very distinct throughout the entire cup. The rooibos is nice and less scratchy on my throat than most rooibos. A nice change from red rooibos! I really need to find some tea filter bags for rooibos though, as I suddenly stopped loving rooibos as much as I once did. But I’m sure filter teabags would help!

TTBB #2. I’m not going to add these to my cupboard unless I keep more than the cup I drink so there won’t be any sipdowns for a while.

I’ve never tried green rooibos before, though I’ve been meaning to. I have some….somewhere in the tea tubs but I couldn’t even tell you what brand it is. This smells very strongly of fruit, mostly pear as other commenters have mentioned.

Just took a drink and it’s reminding me of SOMETHING very very strongly. I’m having a sense memory but I couldn’t tell you what. Maybe…root beer? Something in root beer is twigging at me. Pear up front but this mystery flavour in the back. In the middle is something vaguely horrible that I think is the green rooibos. What is that?? Anyway, aside from the visceral shudder reaction, I think this tastes good. I would never buy it, but it’s good.

I am getting a quick onset headache since drinking this so I might have found another food sensitivity. Crap. I suspect the rooibos but I don’t have enough data points to tell. Possibly a flavouring.

In other news, my kidneys have been sore all day and I’m not sure why. It’s very irritating.
