There have been so many RLT flavored matcha tasting notes on my dashboard lately that I’ve been feeling a little left out. I haven’t really played with matcha very much – had a couple of inexperienced didn’t do it right ewwww kind of moments and moved on to something else. Since then I’ve been lurking, reading, watching how all the matcha lovers around here are experimenting, and have decided that pretty much anything goes. Soooooo….
I have a tin of this in my cupboard – and no idea what I’m going to do with it, but should either drink it or pass it on before it goes stale.
If RLT can add all kinds of weird and wonderful flavors to their matcha, and if people say you can just toss it into milk, give it a shake and voila something fun – I’m thinking why can’t I do that. Ummm Dex – hate to point out the obvious but this isn’t fun RLT matcha. Riiiiiigggghhhhht – ok so lets go the other way – why because I can…
I put 1/2 tsp of matcha powder in a glass, added 1 cup of orange flavored milk, insert stick blender. 30 seconds later I had a very odd colored frothy concoction in my glass. HHhhhhmmmmm frothy is good right? This is actually pretty good. I didn’t blend it enough, I had some sediment in the bottom of the glass, but tasty enough that I would do it again.
I can buy chocolate, strawberry, caramel, coffee, cookies and cream milk (I think I can also get some of the chocolate bar brands flavored milk – just not sure which)- so I think I will be doing this again…..
I find the matcha stays suspended a bit better if I dissolve it in some warm water first (~160F). I’m using some random grocery store matcha, though…
if you ever want to try some RLT flavored stuff, i can send you samples of a handful of diff. flavors. i enjoy matcha sometimes, but it’s definitely not a staple really for me, so i have plenty given that. i’ve got panettone, pistachio, butternut pie, caramel popcorn, caramel, fig (which smells like bubble gum to me, as a warning), and…i forget, some other stuff. cheesecake or eggnog i think.
also, where on earth do you get so many flavors of milk? jealous.
I also dissolve it but that’s because I’m also dissolving sugar or honey in there at the same time.
OMGsrsly – Thank you for that tip – that did work better :)) I need to get some ice in my freezer though. The milk isn’t cold enough with the little warm water – BUT I’ve drank more matcha tonight than I have in the last 6 months – heading in the right direction.
ifjuly – Thank you for the offer, and I might take you up on it at some point – for right now though, I actually do have a couple of samples and I have a couple of flavors of matchacchino (sp?) – I just haven’t been drinking it because I didn’t really like it. I didn’t want to waste it – was waiting until I found a way to enjoy it (or for my tastes to change).
I really want to make matcha ice cream this summer too….
Mmm, matcha ice cream… I actually bought some Callebaut white chocolate to make my own matcha chocolates. Matcha cheesecake would be really good, as well.
Nxtdoor – you’re right – if I were adding some “sweet” I would have dissolved it – but the milk was already sweet so I didn’t add anymore. I just didn’t really think about it. Needs ice though. Now that spring is FINALLY thinking about coming – need to have ice. :))
ifjuly – everywhere… It comes in 500 ml (2 cup) bottles, called Milk to Go – meant to be a convenient “snack” on the go – grab milk instead of pop. I can buy it at every convenient store, gas station, grocery store etc. Subway here has chocolate, strawberry, and banana… Is interesting that things we just take for granted others can’t get.
callebaut matcha chocolates sound awesome! yeah, i want to bake with matcha this summer too!
gotcha Dex. i go hot and cold about matcha, so i totally get that. very curious about this to-go soda-replacement milk! sounds like something my husband would want to try.
LOL I can’t send you milk… I would, but I don’t think it would be very good when it got there. :))
From the description it sounds similar to the individual Nesquik type bottles you can get at convenience stores. I have seen strawberry and cookies and cream, never orange.
