Samurai Travelling Tea Box – Tea #13

Finished off the single serving that was in the box, and it was very good.

Definitely reminded me of French Toast – the good brioche kind! Sweet with maple and brown sugar notes, the perfect amount of warming cinnamon and a kiss of sweet apple. This is a tea that I would totally want in my cupboard for a decadent fall/autumn type of sweet flavour profile!

Mastress Alita’s Monthly Sipdown Challenge
March 2022 → A French tea

I did a search of my cupboard and realized that I don’t own any French teas! No teas from a French company or anything that could be considered French. In desperation, I found this tea. It isn’t French, but it does have French in the title so I’m using it! A quick Google search tells me that French toast did not originate in France (I thought it probably didn’t), but instead came about in Rome. And down the rabbit hole I went. I did enjoy sipping on this tea though while learning about the origins of French toast. The aroma is remarkably spot on.

This is a tea I snagged a sample from in the Discovery Teabox, so thank you Skysamurai for organizing and all participants for sharing their tea! I’ve been craving apple cinnamon flavors lately, and recently restocked pretty much the one Stash tea I like, Cinnamon Apple Chamomile which I’ve been drinking a lot in the evenings.

This really does smell like an apple cinnamon pastry from the aroma; it has that overly-sweet apple filling smell that I get from those little finger danishes that have the hard sugar on top. The flavor isn’t quite as strong as I’d like, but I only saved 2.5g from the teabox and lately I’ve been brewing my blacks closer to 3g in the morning, but it is still very nice; I’m definitely getting a sweet cinnamon note, and an apple flavor that is more akin to sweet filling than tart, juicy fruit. There is a subtle warm baked bread note coming through from the black tea, as well as malt and spice. Maybe just a very, very subtle smokiness at the back of the tongue as well, in the aftertaste. It is very warm and satisfying and I’m enjoying it very much as my morning cuppa.

Oh this one sounds good!

tea-sipper

This one is probably my favorite from Simpson & Vail and I have MANY favorites from S&V.

Mastress Alita

I finished my thermos this morning so fast I had pretty much no tea by the time I got to work!

tea-sipper

Oh no! Teamergency!

AJRimmer

I definitely regret not ordering some more of this when I restocked some of my favorites from them recently. This one is so good.

The first time I tried it Cameron B. sent me some. Ah, I got to try this again. Thank you TeaSipper! Lightly cinnamon, just the right amount. I love Cinnamon but not overly done cinnamon that it masks all the other flavors. This was just right. Freshly baked apple hints, french toast, maple goodness, buttery, bready… And not overly sweet at all. Nice balance. This time I tried it was a splash of heavy cream. Oh my, a delicious breakfast for me today hehe.

Sometimes you have a tea that’s supposed to be whatever flavor, and you would never know if you hadn’t read the name on the tin. This one tastes exactly like french toast. You can taste the apple and cinnamon. It’s so, so good. When I saw a pouch of this in the tea box, I’m pretty sure I Iet out a little maniacal laugh because I was so excited to drink this tea again. My only wish is that they had a decaf version because I would drink it constantly.

Kawaii433

Cameron sent me a sample of this, now I’m really excited to try this. I went through the Lupicia and the B&Bs, now I’m on the S&V.

tea-sipper

….and another fan of Apple Cinnamon French Toast. The maniacal laughs are exactly why I added it to the teabox. :D

AJRimmer

It’s just the best. Thanks so much for sharing! :D

I need to try the Apple Cinnamon Coffeecake version, just to compare… For science!

For once, I find myself agreeing with all the rave reviews! This really does give me apple, cinnamon, and that custard-ness of French toast. I made a huge tumbler to get me through a meeting, and I was sad when I guzzled it all down and was left with nothing. I do overleaf it pretty heavily, as I tend to overleaf most teas anyway but I also agree with other reviewers that S&V teas tend to require it. BUT I DON’T CARE! I’LL GO A TSP PER OZ OF WATER IF I NEED TO, IT WAS THAT YUMMY! Ahem.

Discovery TTB #4

I tend to shy away from most blends with cinnamon in them, as that’s a flavor that tends to overwhelm. But this one smelled delicious, so I decided to give it a try. And I wasn’t disappointed! There’s a good mix of maple, cinnamon, and apple flavor without any one taking over. A nice morning treat!

I don’t love apple or cinammon in tea, but this one really gets it right, in my opinion!

tea-sipper

Yep, this is a cupboard essential for me now. I think I’ve had this tea the most in the last couple of months.

Sipdown! (3 | 44)

Finishing off this tasty tea from S&V. This and Almond Sugar Cookie are the first two teas I remember loving from them, and I’ll probably reorder both at some point in the future.

I will say, this doesn’t really taste like French toast to me. It actually reminds me of Quaker instant oatmeal, a combination of the apple cinnamon and maple brown sugar flavors. And I used to loooooove instant oatmeal, so it’s a bit nostalgic for me. It does taste a tad bit artificial on the maple part, but not enough to bother me. Mostly it tastes like syrupy apply cinnamony oaty goodness. :3

Ahh, that apple cinnamon instant oatmeal flavor is so nostalgic for me, too!

Cameron B.

I used to love all of the flavors, and the fruit & cream ones too! I might have to pick some up the next time I’m at the store ha ha… :P

gmathis

We recently grabbed some fruity oatmeal to have on hand, too! The strawberry is my favorite, I think.

Cameron B.

I remember loving peaches & cream and blueberry & cream!

gmathis

The ones we have a hard time finding (for nostalgia purposes) were my son’s favorite: chocolate chip and cookie dough

Cameron B.

Whaaaaat cookie oatmeal?! I’ve never heard of that but I can totally get behind it. :D

gmathis

Circa 1999-ish. Quaker does have a Sm’res that was around back then, I think. We used to buy a multi pack that was the choco chip, cookie dough, cookies’n’creme, and one other in that flavor category.

Simpson & Vail can be kind of hit or miss for me. Their shipping charges are high and their packaging is often not airtight. However, there are definitely some gems mixed into their offerings. (Try the hazelnut coffee!)

This is definitely one of those gems. It tastes like a mix between spiced apple cider, French toast, and pecan pie. Heavy on the delicious syrup and pecan. I know that sounds like a lot going on, which it is, but it’s more like a symphony than a cacophony. It’s perfect for those mornings when I’m grumpy about having to adult. Cheers me up and gives the morning at least one pleasant thing to enjoy. Get you some.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – October Tea #4- An apple tea

The ultimate of apple teas and not a sipdown YET.  Though there is only one serving remaining of my newest treasured pouch, I’m really trying to stretch this tea out.  I guess I’ll have to finish the older pouch before having an excuse for a S&V order of this absolute cupboard necessity.  Also an autumn necessity.  How did I live before this blend?  I also had to order from Tealyra recently because I happened to catch that they are discontinuing the amazing Lavender Lemon Potion.  I’m very grateful I was constantly checking whenever Tealyra had a sale e-mail, so that I caught a chance to buy some. (It quickly went out of stock though, so please don’t run and look to see if they still have it.) A problem of too many favorite teas, I guess.

ashmanra

Going on the wishlist…

Lupiressmoon

Okay, so this is the second positive review I’ve seen for this one, and I adore maple and autumn stuff. Definitely going to end up getting!

I hope you love it when you eventually try this tea, Lupiressmoon!
