Vanilla Bean

I tried the Vanilla Bean with milk this morning, per Jillian’s suggestion, and it was much better this way and more drinkable. It still has the strong vanilla smell and only a general black tea taste. I will finish the box as a morning black though. This does not make me interested in buying more Mighty Leaf teas.

This one is finally gone! I’ve had it for so long and it’s gone! That’s ok. I need to finish more teas. I’ve always enjoyed this one. When brewed correctly it has a nice creamy vanilla flavor to it. It’ll be missed but probably not reordered anytime soon.

Well, this’ the last bag of this I have. I’ll miss it. It’s one of the staples I carried in my Travel Tea Bag. I don’t plan to actively go out and pick this one up again, but if I come across it—maybe it’s marked down, or I have yet to find a vanilla black that I like more—I’ll probably pick it up again. It’s just a bit pricey. Fourteen freakn’ bucks? Come on. Otherwise, I will probably try Tealicious’ vanilla black next. Murchie’s was utterly flavourless, and I don’t know if Tea Desire even carries a vanilla black… They gave me a list of their full tea stock, but I seem to have misplaced it. Plus, I haven’t been to Tealicious in a while, and I actually LIKE the base used in their flavoured blacks, unlike Tea Desire’s.

As for the base used in Mighty Leaf’s, well, this is the only flavoured black I’ve tried from them. It’s not wonderful, but it’s far from terrible. Sometimes it takes on this weird spinachy taste—it’s particularly prominent in the second steep, although still quite noticeable in the first. But if I avoid a second steep (difficult, because I feel like I’m wasting it if I don’t—except for fanning teabags, which you usually can’t get a second steep out of anyways), and don’t mess with the recommended four-minute steeping parameters, it’s usually fine. Fairly enjoyable. Keeps my vanilla cravings at bay.

Now that I think about it, I had always meant to mix a sachet of this with some earl grey. Too late now, ahwell.

The first time I had this tea was at a restaurant with Sunday brunch. This was my first tea from Mighty Leaf and I fell in love with it immediately! This tea has a strong, creamy, true vanilla flavor – no artificial fake taste. It’s nice and strong and makes for a perfect wake-me-up cup in the morning!

-Square silken tea pouch with medium size tea leaves and pieces of vanilla bean.
-Teabag smells of black tea and creamy vanilla. Tea liquor aroma is of sugary vanilla.
-Tea liquor is a thick dark brown color.
-Malty flavor with a true vanilla finish.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. Nice vanilla flavor that becomes creamy with the addition of milk and sweetener.

Thanks go to KallieBoo! for this(and 6 other samples currently burning a hole in my cabinet, so to speak!) Hmmm… I’m not getting much vanilla out of this one. It smelled like a pretty stout vanilla when I opened the bag, but it’s just not translating. I wonder if I steep it a bit longer? I did the recommended 3 minutes with 212* water. I’m hoping it’s just ‘user error’ here, and I’m going to reserve my rating until I get to try this again.

Oh …. My… GAWD!!! I ordered this today during Brunch at White Spot and nearly died in my seat! I am excited to say that the waitress was so kind to constantly refill my little teapot with hot water over and over and over again! It was not until the third refill that I noticed the taste start to fade!

I added a little cream to this tea and it was like drinking a vanilla bean cheese cake! All I can say is I will be hunting despretly for this tea on shelves everywhere… or begging my hubby to order it online once the Postal Strike is over with!

So good, SO GOOD! but I might be biased!!

The leaves are surprisingly large for being a bagged tea. Smells promising.

Steeped for the bag recommended 4 minutes and got a very dark tea, which is perfectly fine with me. Good vanilla taste, not fakey. I can see where adding cream to this might make it even more dessert-like. It wouldn’t need sugar, I’m thinking. Not that this is sweet per se, just that it has a sweet quality to it with the vanilla.

This is my first Mighty Leaf Tea and I am interested enough to probably seek out others. I usually bag my own loose leaf to take with me on trips, but sometimes it is nice to have some already made up and I think this would be a definite candidate for a morning tea to have along! Credit and thanks to Doulton for the opportunity to try this one: nice strong sugar-cookie vanilla. Very sweet, but not sticky-sweet. I’ll give it …. an Ernie on a zero to Kermit scale. (Just seems like the day for all things friendly and Sesame.)

Had this as a tea latte at Wendells, the “Cinnabean Tea Misto.” The latte was lovely, and upon examining the teabag in my cup I discovered it was Mighty Leaf’s Vanilla Bean, and so I purchased a box.

This was my first Mighty Leaf tea (and probably my last, my goodness was it expensive!) and I thought it was quite nice. The vanilla flavor is very prominent, I’m surprised at some of the other tasting notes posted here. I found I could pick up on the vanilla notes easily even straight, though I added a dab of milk and golden sugar to bring it to the foreground. Tea this expensive has to be enjoyed to the fullest. Speaking of which, I should wrap things up so I can drink it while it’s still hot! :)

Anyway, overall it’s a nice sweet tea — though the vanilla flavor is a bit on the fake side — that can be enjoyed at any time of day, however the high cost (almost a dollar per bag) makes it far less accessible. Higher quality teas can be purchased at a much lower price, so that brings my rating down lower than I would’ve rated were it a more realistic price.

I can’t say that I’m a fan. The vanilla smell is barely present and smells artificial. (The vanilla smell was stronger as the tea cooled.) The vanilla in the taste is very subdued and only present in the background. It’s just ok. I steeped for the recommended 4 minutes. While the flavor of the tea is light to me, I think steeping longer would yield a very bitter cup. I should have added milk and sugar to help doctor it up. Oh well. It’s better than no tea at all. This wasn’t bad…just “meh”.
