Backlog from yesterday: the smell is spot on for this and the taste is pretty close too. Has a wonderful caramel scent mixed with a slightly buttery popcorn taste. I don’t think I’d try this one cold and I prefer hot matcha lattes anyway.

Royal grade matcha, distinctive flavoring. 2 chasaku scoops to 8oz light vanilla soy milk.

Finally tried this cold steeped overnight in milk, which was slightly better. I still strongly prefer the plain caramel matcha over this one, but overall neither one are my favorites. Both are drinkable but there are MUCH better flavors from Red Leaf! :)

I really want to rate this one 100 after today’s discussion because this tea makes me want to have a tween moment. OMG IT’S SO GOOD! #bestteaever #heaveninmymouth

On to the review – Seriously this matcha is amazing. I’m officially addicted to Red Leaf Tea’s flavored matchas. I’m working on placing an order right now. I had it over ice with almond milk this morning instead of my usual coffee and it hit the spot. It’s perfectly buttery and caramely goodness. I thought I would get my fiance addicted to these but luckily for me he prefers his coffee in the morning. This is another homerun from MissB!

Sadly, this one I didn’t enjoy. I tried it both as a hot milk matcha latte and a cold matcha milk to no avail. The flavours upset my stomach. I’m not a huge fan of popcorn as it is, so perhaps that played a part. I’m not sure I could completely differentiate the flavours, but it struck me as more super sweet, borderline ‘burnt’ caramel/butter mix.

Thanks for the sample VariaTEA! Another matcha to leave for those who do love it in the future. :)

This is a sample sipdown too, the first one of the day eep.

VariaTEA

Oh no. I am sorry you didn’t enjoy it but at least now you know :)

Courtney

Exactly! If they were all winners, I would have a seriously problem haha. I appreciate the sample. :)

Stephanie

Now I dunno if I should try it or not. Dilemma!

VariaTEA

lol I definitely understand. Sometimes I am thankful when I don’t like a tea because it means spending less money

Courtney

You may love it Stephanie! Everyone else really seemed to, plus we don’t always have the same tea tastes.

That’s exactly it VariaTEA haha.

guise.
cavocorax gave me this tea sample in February 2014.
and i’m just drinking it today.
it’s yummy. but i should probably try it again with some sweetener. i’m still a total newb when it comes to matcha.
i was eyeing the david’s tea matcha mixing tumblr last night. i think i’ll love matcha once i’m patient enough to figure it out. currently i’m just a little lazy. i put a couple mini scoops in a small rounded cup, use a matcha battery powered whisker to blend it with the water, then add some almond milk and whisk some more.

my side topic right now? i have too many planners. i have a journal/bujo, a weekly hobonichi planner and a daily hobonichi planner, and i keep a 6 ring Filofax style planner, i’m only mentioning this now, because i realize i should probably create a section in my 6 ring planner for tea. i currently keep a section for money, one for fountain pen inks, and one for tv shows i (binge) watch. i’m gonna work towards adding a health and a tea section. don’t worry. you can expect updates. : )

Linda

OMG Fountain pens! I keep an old fauxdori with an insert made from big box craft store sketch book paper in it for ink tests. I should crack out a new insert for tea!
Currently using an Erin Condren but I think next year I’ll switch back to my color crush/filofax copycat planner from last year with new inserts. Or go crazy and get a ARC style one.

Shmiracles

HAhahahah at the time that i read your comment, i had literally just opened a package containing 2 storage 6-ring binders, and a planner for office meetings. and the day before that, i received a delivery that included 2 other planner binders i’d bought on super sale. i’m fully aware that it’s too many binders.
i don’t have any Color Crush or Erin Condren in my collection but I’ve watched So Many youtube videos about them heehee!
i love talking paper products :)
if you go crazy and try ARC, please let me know how the experiment goes!!

Catch up (going through previous tasting notes/notifications from yesterday) only took about half an hour today, so I surprisingly still have time to log some of yesterday’s backlog. Normally I’d be able to catch everything up but I have an interview later this early morning/afternoon! Yay me! I’m also going to take advantage of being in the mall and distribute some resumes.

I kinda of get all the fuss about this one now that I’ve had it (whisked into cold milk) because it does smell and taste surprisingly like Caramel Popcorn complete with the buttery flavour. That said, I’m not so sure how much I like it because of that. I’m not typically a fan of butter-y things, for example the buttery taste of 52Tea’s Pancake Breakfast is my least favourite thing about that blend (the exception to this rule is Movie Night, which I think works for me because it’s so light in flavour in general).

I’d probably stick to plain caramel over caramel popcorn, but this was still pretty good. I wont have difficulty finishing what Cavocorax so generously shared with me.

I am sorry you did not like this one as much as the others :(

Stephanie

Dang, I was thinking about ordering this one but now I’m not sure…I wish I could get more matcha samples in general before I commit to buy :/

I whisked a spoonful up in warm water and then mixed it up with some almond milk. It’s crazy, maybe even slightly horrifying, how much this tastes like buttery caramel popcorn. With extra butter.

Thanks, Cavocorax! Not all the flavoured matcha I’ve tried from Red Leaf accurately represent what they are named, but this one certainly does!

This was my first experience with matcha. I’m addicted to caramel popcorn, so when I saw reviews online saying this tastes just like the real thing, I knew I had to try it! I live in an apartment complex, and when I walked into the mailroom, I could immediately smell caramel popcorn—it was THAT strong (in my opinion, that’s a great thing!).

I tore open the box it came in as soon as I got back to my apartment, and when I cut open the bag the matcha was held in, it smelled exactly like fresh popped caramel corn. As I said, I had never had matcha before, so I didn’t notice any matcha scent.

I first tried it prepared in the traditional method, with hot water. While I could taste the caramel corn, there was also an earthy, woody taste that I’m assuming was the matcha. I think I used too much powder, though, because it also left my mouth feeling very dry.

I tried it today as a latte, and I liked it this way much better. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a teaspoon of splenda. I could hardly taste the woody flavor I mentioned earlier, but the caramel tones really came out with the milk. This was the perfect midafternoon pick-me-up, and I’ll most likely be ordering again.
