A full bodied green tea with a very sweet, warming aroma with strong chestnut overtones. A naturally sweet, smooth tea. It reminds me of the holidays.

Another swapped tea from my lovely friend Cameron! I adored this blend, it was the perfect cozy pick-me-up that I needed in my fall stash (especially during a stressful week). It’s nutty, creamy, and sweet with a touch of toastiness that is perfect for the colder months. I’m definitely making this an essential in my collection.

This tastes like candied chestnuts to me because there is a sweet scent and sweetness to the taste. The green base is not my favourite here — it’s almost fishy (this is not the exact correct word, but I can’t come up with something better) in the scent (though not in the taste)? The combination of the candied sweetness and green base is not my favourite. This type of chestnut would probably be delightful against a black base.

Thank you for sharing Cameron!

Their Joyeux Noël is a lovely chestnut black tea!

This tea was everything I hoped it would be and more. The base is light and vegetal, and the flavor is rich, caramelized, and buttery. Strong brown sugar notes, and no hint of bitterness or astringency. Very much reminds me of Butter Sencha from DavidsTea, but not nearly as temperamental or finicky. This is definitely one I want to stock up on before it disappears.

I received this tea from my friend in France. So if you looking for this, it’s “Châtaigne” in French. Today, I deceided to drink this tea to relax and because it’s inspire me (yes, it’s Fall!). And… Wow! It’s a big surprise! I really like the “sweet/salt” combination. It’s taste caramel and chesnut at first and after, the aspect of the japanese green tea (salty and herbal).

a chance buy, I did not expect it to be a green chestnut tea. I would not think it would work, but it does, and it´s fantastic, the sweetness of the chesnut is perfectly amplified by the tea.

Dustin

I think the chestnut works better in a green base over black and I usually favor black.

Thanks for this one, Stephanie! One I wanted to try! I’m not sure I know the taste of chestnuts, but this tea is certainly delicious. It’s like a slightly nutty marshmallow treat… almost candy like, very sweet. It’s a unique green tea to have around, and I imagine I’ll be craving it quite a bit. I’ve got a few teaspoons left! :D I just posted in the forum that I have two $6 Teavivre giftcards if two people want them. Expire 12/31. Just pass me a message!

Hope everyone who celebrates is having a great Thanksgiving!

Fjellrev

I wish this tasted like nutty marshmallows to me!

Me: What do you think this smells like? It reminds me of something but I can’t figure it out.
Mom: Hmm… it kind of smells like some kind of fish.
Me: … Oh, let me have another sniff…
Mom: Yeah, it’s reminding me of fish for some reason.
Me: It’s kind of like salmon?
Mom: Yeah!
Me: Teriyaki salmon!
Mom: Yes, that’s exactly it!

In a nutshell (unfortunately not a chestnut shell), this tastes like a bento box. Did I just eat a bento box with a pot of green tea on the side? What’s going on?

The dry leaf, the steeped tea, everything both smells and tastes like teriyaki salmon. Now, I quite enjoy eating it, but drinking it? Not so much.

The base also goes bitter as this cools. I didn’t follow the directions on the package because I thought steeping a green tea in boiling water is a bit ridiculous. Despite letting the water cool and being mindful of not steeping this for more than two minutes, I still ended up with a bitter result.

OMGsrsly

I am cackling. OMG.

sren

This is unopened in my cupboard. I have been a little afraid to try it!

TeaBrat

I like this one! Maybe you got a bad batch?

Dinosara

Wow, never gotten teriyaki salmon from this one.

Fjellrev

Yeah, part of me feels like my mom and I are just simply tasting/smelling it differently than the rest, but at the same time, how can we taste something that extremely differently? We both know what chestnuts are supposed to taste like.

Jillian

The green tea base does have a savory notes to it but I honestly never got salmon from it. I wonder if your tea got contaminated somehow.

Fjellrev

Yeah, it’s not the base at all. Don’t think I’d bother contacting them about it, though.

I bought this when I was stocking up on White Christmas, mostly based on the reviews. When I opened the bag, I was immediately surprised by how sweet it smelled. I suppose I expected a nuttier profile based on what I read and the ingredients in the tea itself. My assumption was that the saccharine scent would wear off once it was brewed up. Not so much. This tastes like sugar to me with a warm, grain-like undertone. I tried a second steep with pretty much the same result, and puzzled over what it was this tea reminded me of. After a few more sips, it occurred to me: Lucky Charms, the breakfast cereal I occasionally indulged in as a kid. It’s like a spoonful of the marshmallows with that weird, cardboard-ish oat grain that’s been soaked in 2% milk. It isn’t bad, per se, but after that HIMYM-style glass shattering revelation, I can’t really bring myself to drink it. Fortunately, my sib really seems to enjoy it, so I’ll just pawn it off on her.

Flavors: Grain, Marshmallow, Oats, Sugar

sren

Aargh, just ordered some of this, hope it agrees with me more.
HIMYM-style” :):):)

Beorhthraefn

Aw, well, remember that my sib digs it. So it might just be my taste buds, honestly. Wish you luck with it~ And that episode was a defining moment for me. It gave all past and future epiphanies a certain, audible characteristic.

Fjellrev

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually kind of hoping I’ll get Lucky Charms out of this when I try it.

I went into this one blind and wow is it good. The ultimate rich and nutty treat. The green base is perfectly light and complements the buttery flavor really nicely. I won’t be reaching for this one every day but it would be excellent for a comforting treat in the winter.
