From Harney & Sons

This is a masterpiece from Fuan, China. Beautiful little hand rolled pearls are gently infused with the floral essences from Jasmine flowers. The tea is a delight to look at and its brew also delivers. The light colored brew is full of floral and sweet aromas. Always a delight.

A sample from my order a couple months ago.  I can already tell there just isn’t as much leaf in the sachet as I would typically use, so I used less water.  I do love a good jasmine dragon pearl.  This isn’t my favorite version of the type though.  I have been spoiled with Teavivre’s jasmine teas.  The flavor here seems more candy sweet floral than jasmine.  The second steep was more to my liking – more jasmine, more noticeable green tea flavor.  But then again, maybe my usual parameters usually overdose and use too much leaf to get my preferred level of flavor?   If I had to stock up on this particular pearl, I might, but I’d rather just go with Teavivre as my staple jasmine teas.  But thanks to Harney’s sample, now I know.

I also prefer Teavivre jasmine to Harney’s.

I swear I’ve had this tea before, but who knows where my review for it went. I’m not typically a jasmine fan, but this one is so fresh and clear. It’s quite floral, but somehow it’s just right. I really enjoy this one cold and sweetened.

Samurai TTB #59

I’m not generally a fan of jasmine teas (too many of them are overpoweringly floral and make me feel like I’m drinking perfume) but Jenni King has spoken so highly of this one, I just had to try it when I saw a single sachet in the TTB. And I’m so glad I did! I think this is the best jasmine tea I’ve ever had. Even though it was in a teabag, the pearls were beautifully rolled and unbroken. When steeped, they unfurled into a bright green, fresh-tasting tea with notes of citrus and a pleasantly soft floral flavor. A second steep was almost as good as the first!

First time I brewed it came out perfect. Not bitter and a strong jasmine-ness. This tea always reminds me of my mom. She used to like it a lot and I remember buying her some at this cute tea shop near my school in NYC called “the Tea Spot”. And later, at Harney and Sons Store. The second time I made it too cold. And then resteeped it too hot and bitter!

Advent from AJRimmer day #11

Ooh lala! This is a fancy looking pyramid sachet with small rolled pearls. It smells of fragrant jasmine and I am so excited to drink it. I love me a jasmine tea. The sachet also gives the pearls lots of room to expand and unfurl.

I forgot about the steeping tea for about 15 minutes but luckily I had only used warmish water instead of proper temperature water and therefore it did not overbrew. This is a very smooth jasmine white tea with distinctly aromatic jasmine and some nice vegetal tea notes underneath. There is a hint of sweetness, followed by a touch of astringency in the aftertaste.

I love jasmine tea and this is my favorite thus far. It has a great jasmine flavor. Smooth green and white tea taste. Sweet. It doesn’t need much honey. Soothing to drink. Just the aroma alone makes you feel peaceful.

I’ve grown to like floral teas. I didn’t always. I used to think they tasted like perfume. This tea is nice. Although I only had the bagged version it still was whole pearls that unfurled in the bag. The liquor is a light gold/yellow color. The flavor is good, subtle on the green, not to strong on the jasmine. It hits the nose in a good manner too. It smells sweet, floral, and just like a jasmine tea should.

I love the scent of jasmine, both in perfume and in real life. And even for me, the first whiff of the unbrewed tea was overwhelmingly floral. Another reviewer likened the aroma to Juicy Fruit, and that’s about right.

Luckily, after brewing, the jasmine settled down and played better with the flavor of green tea. The tea has a nice sweetness, a very pleasant lingering finish, and a silky mouthfeel. In short, it’s a lovely jasmine tea. I will be curious to try Harney & Sons’ Jasmine tea to compare and see how it compares on quality/price ratio.
