From Harney & Sons

Tower of London Blend is reminiscent of Elizabethan preserves, flavorful and tempting. We stir Chinese black teas with pieces of dried stone fruit, then finish the blend with oil of bergamot and honey flavor. Featured in our Historic Royal Palaces Collection, it has become one of our most popular teas, especially with its brilliant amethyst-inspired tin.

Ingredients: Black tea, dried stone fruit, bergamot oil, honey flavor

Quite a lovely tea here, considering I bought it off of amazon. Definitely shades of Earl Grey but with a lovely complex aftertaste. I used the bagged variety, 3 teabags in my repurposed beer stein/tea mug with milk and sugar. The sugar really helps bring out all the flavours, although I know it’s not for everyone.

Been a while, hope to see some old friends on here. I’m drinking a lot of tea these days so I’ll try to be as active as I can. I’m glad this site is reviving though, I missed it.

I tried this tea again after owning it for awhile. I think it degrades VERY quickly, more quickly than other brands. The lid was tightly fitted on the tin the whole time I had it. Maybe my tastes have changed. I am fasting and I have noticed that my sense of taste and smell is extremely acute. I do not drink soft drinks or energy drinks, or smoke, so I think my sense of taste is as true to what I like as possible. This tea leaves a sour taste in my mouth; it used to be a favorite. Maybe if I had a fresh tin it would be different. getting rid of the remainder, it did not last well.

This is an interesting combo of smokey and strong (tannic/very bold) but also fruity (black current maybe?). It is good, but without milk it would be too bitter and tannic for me. A bit of soy milk mellows this blend out, however it isn’t something I would drink regularly if I had other H&S blends available. The cup of tea smells sweet and fruity, but when tasted the mouthfeel is almost smokey and there is a lingering bitterness like if you eat burnt toast and the burnt part has that weird mineral acrid taste. It is difficult to describe, but there is no sweetness. It isn’t bad, and I think many people like black teas that are very strong.

I’ve been lazy with my notes this week. I haven’t felt much like writing anything down. The last ten days or so have been busy, to say the least, and I haven’t been feeling all that well. Officially skipping any sort of festivities today and staying home with my cats, in my PJs. I was worried about leaving them home alone anyway, with all the fireworks going off in the neighborhood this week. I know tonight will be the worst of it, and we have a few that get really upset. I’m also in the middle of what I think is an arthritis flare at the moment, so my body hurts and I don’t feel like sitting in the heat all day. Apparently it isn’t just the cold that makes the joints so dang irritable.

I know I’ve had this blend before, but I just can’t remember it. Drinking it now, it doesn’t seem particularly memorable. I should have added more tea leaves to the basket because it’s rather light. Maybe that’s the problem. Now I have less than a teaspoon left, so the next cup will have to be a small one. Should have just finished it off. Ugh.

I think I’ve read that a few of you have sipdown boxes. I like the idea, so I think I shall create my own. I keep running across bags of tea with one cup’s worth left, and I just need need to finish them off already. They are taking up valuable space. I’ll go ahead and start a box and add my little 3/4 teaspoon of this to the mix. I can’t believe I saved 3/4 teaspoon and thought that was a good idea.

I’ve done the same thing with TOL—hoarded it until the flavor is nearly indetectable. Hope you’re feeling better and that the neighborhood artillery barrage is over! (None of us—cats or people—are fans anymore.)

Shae

Thank you! The fireworks stopped by Tuesday and we are all feeling pretty happy about it. :)

gmathis

Same here! I walked the yard before I mowed Monday and wonder of wonders, I didn’t have half a bag of spent bottle rocket stems and firecracker detritus to gather.

Shae

Oh goodness, well our neighbors don’t shoot them in our yard so I suppose that’s something I need to be thankful for. How rude!

Very nice. :D Thank you tea-sipper!

Notes of baked bread, light caramel, vanilla, multiple fruit notes of berries, stonefruits, maybe some cherry notes. A little sweetness but not overwhelmingly so, malty, pretty bold and with a tsp of cream it was wonderful for breakfast. My darn stomach doesn’t like tea in the morning so much anymore /cry.

I hope you are all doing good. I’ve become quite a review-voyeur lol since I’m still working on sipdowns. I’m enjoying all of your reviews <3 as always.

Glad you like it! Their older flavoring for this was even better. I hope your stomach improves for your morning tea!

Kawaii433

Aww hehe well this one was very good so I am happy with it. Thank you! I am kind of getting used to a tsp of cream in my morning coffee. Since I started trying flavored, that’s what I drink in the morning since they go well with cream. After that, it seems I can drink any tea straight. :D

gmathis

I still have a little TOL left…have never tried it with milk. We may have to remedy that very soon!

Kawaii433

gmathis Let me know how you like it :D

I got this as a combo pack with the Victorian London Fog. I do need to try Paris eventually, but I was surprised at how good this one was. The notes on top of this page are on point. The flavors are aromatic and sweet, bordering on confection. The bergamot is not super prominent, but it is noticeable along with some cocoa notes from the mild base. This one could get astringent, but it took a while before it did so. The fruit notes were the most prominent. Not a bad sachet blend for work.

Another Harney review for me, im on a kick. This tea definitely goes in the Paris, Victorian London Fog grouping. Paris is a bit more floral, Tower of London is sweet and caramel and to me Victorian London Fog is vanilla. All heavily fragranced and flavoured and im into that right now. Glugs of Silk coconut. 2pm in my office with a square of dark chocolate… basically daily.

I guess I’m used to drinking Decaf Paris, so this tastes pretty standard in comparison. I added some milk and sugar, and it was tasty, but I wouldn’t choose this over other earl greys I have in my cupboard.

Another from Cameron B.
