From DAVIDsTEA

Ready to brew up a storm? This magical concoction is totally spellbinding. So how did we make it? First, we went to our tea graveyard to summon a devilishly good base of rooibos. Then we conjured up a rich handful of enchanted cocoa beans. And once the moon was at its peak, we added our secret ingredient: orange candied witch hats and black bat-shaped sprinkles that’ll have you cackling all night long. Creamy, decadent and sinfully sweet, this tea will leave you bewitched after one sip. Better hang on to your broomsticks. Something wicked this way comes…

Price per 50g: $7.98

I am always interested in limited edition, seasonal teas. This was the last tea I redeemed my Frequent Steeper points for and I got a 50 g bag. When I first smelled it, I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely love the scent that this tea gives off and I’m not sure why. It doesn’t smell or taste very sweet and instead has a predominant unsweetened cocoa flavour. The sprinkles are also really cute. My one complaint with this tea is its strange aftertaste. Even upon adding agave to try and disguise it, the aftertaste is still extremely noticeable and unpleasant. I will enjoy the occasional cup of this tea while I have it but would not repurchase.
ETA- I have recently tried this as a latte with some warm milk and it is so much better that way. I now crave these lattes all the time. So, I have adjusted my rating as a result. I still am not sure if I would repurchase this however, as I wouldn’t drink it as is and would have to use it all up as lattes.
I finished all of the 50 g bag I had and would recommend drinking this tea as a latte but would not recommend drinking it straight up.

Sipdown

I hated this plain but it makes a pretty awesome smoothie mixed with blueberries and raspberry/star anise jam. Topping it with dark chocolate caramel whipped cream didn’t hurt either. There is a distinct alcohol flavor though. Also the sweetness builds. I take it back…this can get kinda cloying. Oh well. It’s done now.

I really wanted to like it! Unfortunately it has a super weird after taste. It was so good while I was drinking it that I found I was pretty much chugging it. I wouldn’t buy it again. I wish I could figure out which ingredient was ruining the tea.

I’m surprised. I have not yet met a chocolate tea that I really like but this one is pretty good. Doesn’t taste completely watered down. I wouldn’t drink this daily but it is fun for halloween.

This tea literally tastes like chocolate cake batter. I love brewing it and just enjoying the smell – the taste is just extra deliciousness! Smooth and sweet, you can add a touch of milk for extra creaminess!

I’m a huge sucker for DT’s limited edition teas, it’s the whole ‘gotta try it in case it’s really good’ urge. This one is pretty decent compared to some of their other seasonal offerings that I’ve tried. Its dominant flavour is cacao with a sweet caramel-like undertone. But in this case it’s sort of a burnt caramel flavour – not badly burnt but enough that it probably wouldn’t pass muster in a high-end bakeshop. The sweetness become more apparent as the tea cools off and it takes on a bit of a strange aftertaste, so definitely not a tea to have iced. This blend isn’t half bad, but I don’t think I’ll purchase more than the 25g that I already have.

I bought this based off the smell of the loose leaf, but wasn’t as impressed with it brewed. I like sweet/desserty teas, but this is way too sweet even for me.

It brews a dark brown and smells/tastes like rich chocolate liqueur. I can taste rooibos, cocoa, something creamy, and dark chocolate.

This was the first tea I tried in the Book of Spells sample pack and man, what a let down. I love sweet, dessert rooibos teas but this was just blehh. I couldn’t decipher the flavors, just got a bit of chemical-ness and some kind of unpleasant after taste. I ended up dumping it. :( Such a shame because I usually love the teas from David’s!

Maybe that’s what I was tasting…

I’ve been putting off trying my sample pack of this, because I’m trying to sipdown so many other teas I have. This tea is definitely sweet. Wasn’t sure what to expect on this one. The smell reminded me of Mocha Latte, but it doesn’t taste like it. I can taste chocolate, and sort of caramel… But mostly the cocoa beans and husk. Obviously the sprinkles make it sweeter than normal. I’m also not really a fan of rooibos, so this isn’t one that I would buy again.

It’s a pretty cute tea, DAVIDsTEA. I would have dialled it back a bit on the sprinkles, though. This cup is a little too sweet for my liking but not as bad as others. There is a nice layer of milk chocolate going on in every sip. Milk also helps even out the sweetness from the sprinkles.

I’ve learned not to let this sit because as this cools down, the melted sprinkles take over even more so in a chemical-like way.
