Play it cool
Some things are just undeniably cool. Black leather jackets. Rock ‘n’ roll. And you can’t argue with the just the right pair of sunglasses. But in our books, there’s nothing cooler than this deliciously refreshing black tea with melon, real cucumber slices and just a hint of mint. It’s bracingly fresh, totally invigorating and surprisingly addictive. And unlike those sunglasses, it’ll never go out of style. We told you it was cool… Limited edition.

Ingredients:
Black tea, honeydew melon, cucumber, sunflower petals, blue mallow blossoms, natural and artificial flavoring.*
**Contains spearmint flavour.

Price per 50g: $7.50

When I smelled this in store, it was a very overwhelming spearmint smell with a hint of cucumber, but funny enough, there is no mint in this tea. I suggested to the David’s tea girl that maybe it had spearmint flavour in it because the ingredients just say natural flavours, but she said no there isn’t. My friend at work didn’t get spearmint at all, just melon. It’s kind of funny how everyone seems to smell and taste this differently.

I really don’t like spearmint tea, but I decided to try all of the spring teas just in case. This tea is definitely unique. It tastes very strongly of spearmint to me, but I’m definitely getting the cucumber as well. No sign of the melon though. The dried cucumber slices made it quite unattractive and almost made me gag when I dumped out my leaves into the sink.

Even though I didn’t personally like this tea enough to re-stock it, I have to admit it was quite refreshing and light. I can definitely see how others would like this.

Having it iced right now … it’s so wonderfully refreshing! I’ll have to stock up so I have plenty this summer. I was worried because the cucumber smell was so strong before brewing, but once brewed the taste is not overpowering at all, it’s just perfect.

I’m really glad I decided to grab a go-cup of this before buying any for home. I found the melon in this over-powering and a bit nauseating. I had about five sips before I threw it out, and three hours later I still have heartburn.
I’m not sure why this one had such a negative effect on me! I was really looking forward to it.

Welp, I went to strain my Grape Expectations and discovered that the leaves had frozen solid. Whoops. Should probably turn down my fridge.

SOOOOO I’m drinking my cool cucumber cold brew instead. This is so weirdly minty. It tastes like mint honeydew melon. It’s really lovely.

I don’t know, I may need to try more of this. Cold it’s amazing. I just…wow. I can imagine drinking this in the heat of summer and just loving how refreshing it is.

Maybe I’ll pick up a bigger bag.

Fjellrev

This one was a surprise for me! Especially the mint.

Daddyselephant

Me too! I was expecting to just be meh about it, but it’s awesome.

melanie_ann

Oh, this is really good! And it’s perfect in my whales cup! Whaaaaaales!
http://oi61.tinypic.com/2096nop.jpg

It’s all melon! Honeydew melon! And I get something that makes me think of cucumber in it. It’s quite light and refreshing, even though I steeped it for 7 minutes – I may have got distracted taking pictures of my pretty whales. :D I took the leaves and popped it in the fridge with my other nordic mug so I can compare the cold-steeped version later!

I really like this though. It’s light on tea, and heavier on fruit so it might be expensive if you want a lot of black leaf in it, but I don’t mind that either. This way I can share with the toddler and not worry about it. I do get a spearminty after-taste too, although I don’t know if there is mint in it or not. Maybe in the added flavours?

I’d want to rate this 90 and go out and buy a tin, but I know that’s just new-tea-fever! I’ve got a 25g pouch so I’ll rate it after I try it again.

Boiling 7 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

This might be enough to make me reconsider cucumber tea. Heh.

Sami Kelsh

I wouldn’t have thought that cucumber and melon belong in black tea, but I’m seeing this get a lot of love. My interest is piqued!

Stephanie

So cute!

keychange

Yes yes yes! I must try this asap!

OMGsrsly

DavidsTea confirmed spearmint!

Anna

I want to try this now!

TeaLady441

I am not a fan of super weird flavours so when I thought of drinking cumber I was kinda put off. I was just going to buy Pom tango and peaches and cream from the new collection, but I wanted to be able to say I tried them at least. I walked into the store and I decided to smell them all at the display and surprisingly it was my favorite smell wise. Reminds me of a watermelon mint summer salad we make. And I decided to try it first. Made a cold steep of it and I’ve only had one sip but I can say I’ll be stocking up and drinking this allllll summer! You need to try it to understand just how refreshing it is

The scent of this tea! Mmm! It’s like slicing into a juicy honeydew melon. Or it reminded me a little of a sweet and creamy honeydew bubble tea! It took me back to big honeydew milkshakes at University with my girlfran.

But it’s called Cool Cucumber!

And when you first taste it, you get a really nice and refreshing wave of… cool cucumber. Exactly how the name suggests it should be! When this tea is steeped at perfection – which I have not yet found and owe to the lovely gals that brewed it up for me in store. I’m still workin on it. But I have to say, when it’s right, it’s right.

It’s lovely hot and it’s even better cold. There is a subtle and almost creamy mint but it is not too strong or overpowering. The main notes are cucumber and melon. Not too sweet and very smooth.

I found that it was great in the sample but got a little bland drinking a full cup. It also overs teeped and became bitter, too minty. I think I’ll be in the mood for it when the weather warms up… with a big full cup of ice and a smidge of agave :)

I really didn’t need more tea, but guys, I love cucumbers. I’m like passionately in love with the taste of cucumbers. So when I saw this was coming out, I knew I needed to try it. So, I dragged my lazy butt out of bed today and made a trip downtown to buy a few grams of this to try. Luckily for me, this was one of the samples they had brewed in the store. When I tried it, I fell in love with it. It’s extremely light, impressively so for a black tea, and tastes strongly of cucumbers. The taste is sweet but distinctive. I get very little of the melon flavor, which is good, because that was the aspect of the tea that turned me the most off in its written description.

This is a tea I would never recommend to someone else, as it’s that unusual tasting, but it’s a tea that I know I love. I’m really glad, because Adagio’s cucumber white tea is undrinkably unpleasant, and I was worried this tea would fall into the same category, which obviously, it does not.

This tea is going to be great iced, I think. It tastes like cucumber water, mostly, or cucumber martinis, both of which one drinks cold. I may try to save some of the pot I made just now (I had to brew some as soon as I got it home, even though it’s way too late in the day to be drinking black tea) and chill it in the refrigerator over night. I may not have the discipline.

I ended up purchasing 100 grams on the spot, and I have no regrets.

This one was the TOTD today, so I gave it a try. It was served hot and I liked the cucumber taste, which was the most present. I didn’t buy it because I thought I would wait until next time, until winter is over, because I wanna try it COLD! And I’m sure it’s gonna be awesome! Between us, hot cucumber sound like “mehh..”. So it was nice, but I would rather drink it cold. I will update the rating when I do so!

Picked up samples from DT today post-gym… bad me. Although I did get a sample of this, it was also one of the TOTD, so I tried it in-store. I was pretty impressed – had been expecting the mint to be overpowering, but it is present in such a small amount that it just adds a lovely freshness. I’m a big fan of the fact that they included honeydew in here as well, as it adds a fresh sweetness that you don’t get with, say, cucumber water (I had a terrible experience with carbonated cucumber water a few years back. It was one of the most terrible beverages I’ve ever tried.) Of course, the dominant flavour in this tea is cucumber, but it was that perfect sort of sweet cucumber (not bitter), which I’m sure is in part related to the honeydew. It’s also fine with the black base, which I honestly didn’t taste at all. I’ll have to see what it’s like when I brew it up myself. Also dying to try it chilled, because I think it could be amazing (and for those of such an inclination, it might be great for a tea cocktail as well).

The only cucumber tea I think I ever had was a Tazo and it tasted more like pickles to me. I wasn’t a fan. But this sounds much better.

Kittenna

Gross. I wasn’t a fan of the Tazo one either.
