From DAVIDsTEA

Feel the heat

Some like it hot….and some like it REALLY hot. If you’re the kind of person who keeps a bottle of hot sauce on them at all times, this little number will be right up your alley. It’s a fiery green tea blend with a big hit of cinnamon, spiked with hot chilli peppers and pink peppercorns. Think of your favourite cinnamon candy, only all grown up. Mama mia – that’s-a spicy tea ball!

Ingredients: Organic: green tea, cinnamon, safflower, pink peppercorn, chilli pepper, natural flavouring*.

This tea is what got me back into teas in the first place. I was with my son at the mall buying my husband some Earl Grey and they gave me some. And pow! It hit me! It tastes spicy and warm, with a really big kick, perfect for a cold Canadian winter morning. It tastes to me exactly like cinnamon hearts, the really hot ones.

I brought some home and now have it every day at lunch. I am trying to watch what I eat, so this tea with little to no calories packs a whole lot of taste!

I am a lover of all things spicy and cinnamon-y, so I jumped on the bandwagon and bought some yesterday. First impression is delightful and the smell is almost identical to that of cinnamon hearts.

Once steeped (when folllowing the 3-4 minute directions) I found the tea too weak for me. Also, it was missing that strong cinnamon taste which I was hoping it would have. However, I tried the tea again today, steeped it slightly longer than the packaged directions and am much happier with the taste. I even like the spicy note after you take a sip.

If you haven’t tried it before, it is definitely a must!

I have been very excited to try this one! Fortunately I found someone selling some on a french DT group. Got it yesterday and upon opening it my response was HOLY CINNAMON SMELL! I coughed a little cause it was so strong, haha! So I’m trying a cup tonight after being a little scared off by the strong whiff I got. It’s an older tea, so I steeped it longer to get enough of the flavour I was looking for. Surprisingly it’s really good! (For some reason I find myself trying spicier teas lately) AND I can taste some green tea lingering in there. But obviously cinnamon and peppercorn take the throne, and I can see why all the reviews on here say it tastes like cinnamon hearts. It does. It leaves a nice warming sensation at the back of the throat and it’s very comforting. SO glad I got to try this one!! Wish they still had this.

Maybe I’ve been spoiled by Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice tea, but I found this a bit weak and flavorless. There is a very subtle cinnamon burn to the tea, but the flavor itself is so weak that I didn’t care for it. I found it somewhat bland. From the description, I was expecting a much bolder flavor.

I can’t say I’ve ever had this tea on its own, simply because it pairs SO well with David’s “The Spice is Right”. I steep them together and get the perfect blend of spiciness.

Smells good, very cinnamon, but doesn’t taste much. I steeped over 10 mins and still didn’t get the flavour I was going for. A better tea: The Spice is Right.

This was a bonus sample that Roswell Strange included in our swap. It is extremely smelly, ha ha… It definitely reminds me of Harney & Sons’s Hot Cinnamon Spice in that it basically smells exactly like Red Hots candy or any type of cinnamon candy really. This one is a green tea however, compared to black. The leaves are rather large and sencha-ish, and they’re mixed with red flower petals, cinnamon bark, and a few red peppercorns. I steeped about 1.5 teaspoons for 3 minutes at 175 degrees.

Brewed aroma is pretty much still cinnamon candy. And it tastes like cinnamon candy too, with a little bit of green tea at the beginning of the sip. The only real difference between this tea and Hot Cinnamon Spice is that this one isn’t sweet. Overall, not bad, but not something I’d regularly drink. :)

Thank you NayLynn for the opportunity to try this tea. It is definitely a “cinnamon hearts” tea although I am a little disappointed there is not more of a cinnamon burn. Oh well. It is still pleasant to sip on and take a moment to relax with after I spent a couple of hours packaging up swaps. Now I just have to get them to the post office…

Another backlog from earlier in the week, and another green.

I so wanted to like this one because of it’s spice and all of the reviews I’ve seen here describing it as tasting something like red hots, or candy cinnamon hearts.

I got mostly a vegetal green tea base with a hint of spice. A bit of sugar brought out the green tea even more for me. Often as a green tea cools some I can get more of the other flavors, but not so with this one. Maybe I’ll try a lower temperature and longer steep time with the next cup and see if that changes anything for me.

Thanks Janelle for sending this one my way in the mystery package.

I was a little worried that the tea would live up to it’s name a little too much and have an uncomfortable lip burn like cinnamon can do sometimes. I was please that it is a red hots candy flavor. Nice and warm but not overwhelming. Great for another snowy day! Thanks Naylynn for sharing!
