Heaven on Earth

What makes jade oolong so special? The leaves are very lightly oxidized, imparting a more floral character to the cup. The liquor is also greener and smoother, just like the precious stone it was named after. Drinking it straight has been described as “a heavenly experience”. So what’s it like blended with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, peppercorn and stevia? Like heaven, only sweeter and spicier. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: jade style Tie Kuan Yin, ginger root, cinnamon, cardamom, pink peppercorns, stevia leaf. With natural flavouring*.

Tried this one as a cup in-store, sweetened with agave. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. The chai flavour is unique in this one to any chais I have tried before. It isn’t my favourite chai, but I did love how the oolong blended with the spices, making it a more mellow cup than most chais are. I suspect this one is a perfect ‘cottage on a rainy day’ tea!

A little intense on the first steep. I think the water may have been still too hot

When I opened the packet, I was really scared. The smell was a cross between an Indian grocery store and a Chinese herbal shop. It was strong, spicy medicinal, and pungent. I only steeped it 5 mins for fear that the flavor would be as strong as its scent. Surprisingly, the brew had a very light aroma of spice. The pungency is barely there. The taste is nice and light. I get the tiniest bit of heat from the peppercorns with each sip. This is a very delicate chai. It’s pleasant but not something I’d run out and buy.

Not too spicy, just right.

I received this tea as a gift. I love oolong teas and I love chai teas. At first, I wasn’t sure if it would taste good, but I had a really good surprise. It tasted like heaven, as written in the description. The combination is unusual but it is totally delightful!

The smell of this delicate infusion reminds me of my grandmother’s home growing up – that sweet hit of cardamom…mmmm.

As a non-black tea drinker, and not that fussy, I generally like all non-black teas. So it’s hard for me to discern specifically the taste of oolong from brews of green and white with which I am familiar.

I like to brew my teas strong, often leaving the steeped tea in my mug while sipping on it.

Having said that, I found this tea to be light on the tastebuds and softly fragrant. I did break open the cardamom pod to release its tiny seeds before steeping (traditionally, we munch on cardamom pods like one would on chewing gum; it is used in just about every dessert), so this taste came through stronger than the rest.

Overall, a very warming, light, fragrant tea.

Wow. I like my Oolongs, and I like my Chais. So this is my kind of tea! I used 3 tsp of leaves for my 18 oz. mug. Beautiful golden/green liquor, with cinnamon first to hit the tongue, then the light Oolong flavour, moving into the cardamom and slight peppercorn to finish. And all these flavours so very light on the tongue. A perfectly blended tea. I can’t wait to resteep this one and see how it tastes.

I was so excited to see this on DavidsTea website a while back. I had just bought an absurd amount of tea the couple of days before, so I waited a month or two to buy this.

Once I finally received this tea, I opened the bag and took a deep whiff. Holy stars in heaven, it smelled beyond fantastic. The ginger and the cinnamon are the main players in the light, complex spicy scent. I didn’t get much of the oolong smell initially.

I typically watch all my teas steep because it’s like a dance to me, the leaves unfolding around the spices moving with the heat currents. It’s a very light green, smooth liquor with a bit of a spicy kick in the back of my throat. It is a little sweet, but I think that helps to balance out the ginger, the cinnamon, and the cardamom. Obviously, without these spices, it wouldn’t be chai, but they can be a bit overpowering and the stevia leaf really helps bring out more of the oolong. Others have said that it’s a bit watery or weak, but I’ve never found that to be the case. Of course, I usually use almost 2 tsp of dry tea and steep a bit longer than average, simply because I do love big-body teas.

In short, the favorite for the semi-long foreseeable future :)

So sweet and warm, no bitterness – I love it! Not a big fan of green tea, usually, but this one is sweet and spicy enough to make a delightful dessert tea, or a nice afternoon pick-me up. Definitely going to become a permanant tea in my cupboard.

First, I must say I think I have a problem with oolong. My stomach often feel weird after half of a cup… That’s why I can’t give a better rating to this tea, even if the spices are well balanced (in fact, it seems to me like the exact same spices blend than Organic Saigon Chai – which is one of my favorite), even if the oolong brings a lightness totally appropriate for an afternoon tea, even if I don’t mind the stevia at all…

Second brew, with a splash of honey : As good as the firts one :)
