Mom's Apple Pie

So I had about a cup left of this from 2 years ago and thought even though I wasn’t a big fan of this I would hate to throw it out.

Opening the package I remember it smelling delicious – I picked up notes of apple and cinnamon. Thinking to myself maybe it isn’t as bad as I once thought – I stopped the water before boil and steeped for about 2 minutes. Taking my first sip I actually didn’t mind it – tastes like apple pie (with some green tea undertones). I left my desk and came back after a few minutes and then I remembered why I didn’t like it – after sitting for awhile it gets so bitter! I couldn’t even finish the rest of my cup. Yuck.

Very meh. I’m not loving the flavor of this. I guess I expected more. It has a little bit too much cinnamon flavor for me, and the apple flavor is slightly too sour.

This tea is a close second behind pumpkin chai for my favourite of David’s new fall teas (though both of them are returning teas). To me, this tastes a lot like David’s Big Apple, but with spice added to it. I will definitely be stocking up on this one.

I like the fact this really tastes like apple. It’s nice that there’s no astringency to the green tea, so it goes down smoothly.

Not sure if I’ll buy more than the sample I already have, but if I have a craving for an apple tea, I’ll reach for this one.

The smell of this tea is fantastic!
Unfortunately the smell is stronger than the taste, it’s not bad just not as strong.
Not sure if I would buy more of this, I’ll just put it in the maybe pile. I’ll have a few more brews of it over the course of how long the 25g bag lasts me, maybe it’ll grow more on me.

Please bring this back next year DAVIDsTEA!!!!!

Fall teas! Fall teas! I went for the usual refilling of the tin and was pleasantly surprised by several new and old teas. Gave Pumpkin Chai a miss because I still have pleeeenty of that from last season..

Now here Owlie has to confess. While Rooibos is her nemesis of the tea world, Green teas… are finicky. Sometimes the bitterness goes well. Other times she finds it tastes rather like… hot leaf juice, cry pardon. She read the reviews on this one however, and was excited to try it. Green tea or no green tea, Owlie was hyped. She sniffed at the tea tin on the counter.

Apples… spice… pie crust? A hint of caramel? PIE CRUST?

Sold. Utterly sold.

Upon steeping, the aroma of hot, juicy apples bathed in cinnamon wafter up from the teacup. Most of the “Green tea bitterness” washed in at first leaving room for the apples to slowly appear afterwards. And strangely.. it works. It really tastes like apple pie. Overall, this owl was thoroughly impressed and converted. After the tragic end of the love affair with Copabanana, she needed something to get over that summer fling.

a great fall tea. Make it and sit and read a book. I love the smell of it, it reallt does smell like apple pie. will get it again.

This tea really hit me when I opened the package, all I could smell was apple pie! The aroma is so strong and so much like real apple pie, I’m almost afraid to taste it and become disappointed in it.

On another note (as the tea cools), this is my first order from DavidsTea and I must say they did an EXCELLENT shipping job. The delivery was quick and the packaging was excellent. It looked like someone actually took time to make my package nice, orderly, and as break resistant as possible (since I also purchased one of their glass cups-which I’m about to drink my tea from).

I was also given three samples that I can’t wait to try and all my teas came with a free tin since I purchased 100g of each tea. The teas also came with stickers to place on the tins to distinguish between my teas. DT also did an excellent job on their “tea menu”. The menu has several teas with little boxes (for check marks) and is made of an almost cardboard type material so you can write in it to either mark of the teas you have or want. I absolutely love that.

Okay, so the tea is cooling and the aroma has softened just a little, but still smells like apple pie. I haven’t added any sweetener to this yet (I add honey to all my teas) because the smell is so sweet I don’t want to risk ruining it.

First sip done! This tea tastes nothing like its smell (a little disappointed). I could drink this without honey, but I’d prefer not to. Let’s see if honey does the trick….WOW! It’s like a whole new tea! The honey really brings out the sweet apple pie taste. I can’t believe how much of a difference the honey has really made. (I used a raw honey) I was thinking the honey would make this tea taste like honey, but one tsp did the trick and I’m a happy tea drinker! I will continue to buy this tea it is that good!

If the tea tasted like it smells or even as it does with the honey originally I would give this tea a 100, but considering the previous, I will have to dock a few points. :(

Yet another one of the tea’s I received for myself from my online order, this was the tea that gave me knowledge of DAVIDsTEA having online only blends and was what prompted me to place an order. I mean who isn’t a sucker from some apple pie?!

Dry this tea has a green apple and cinnamon aroma to it that is quite pungent but not overpowering, very simple familiar smell that almost anyone will be able to recognize immediately. Steeping the tea will accentuate the apple aroma and kill off a bit of the cinnamon aroma.

The final brew is slightly green and retains its green apple taste, there is a cinnamon touch mixed in with it. After that it starts loosing its similarities with apple pie, certainly gets the job done for a tea though. I want to try it again with brown sugar in it to see if that adds to the pie feeling a bit more.

Another well blended tea from David’s Tea. An excellent balance of apple, green tea and cinnamon make this an addictive treat that I keep going back to.
