From DAVIDsTEA

When South African rooibos is quickly withered and steamed to prevent oxidation, it retains its green colour rather than turning a dark red. The flavour is all its own, too: light, fresh, and mildly sweet, with a grassy aroma similar to sencha and other steamed green teas. There’s a new rooibos in town – taste the difference for yourself. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified Organic green rooibos from South Africa.

Price: $5.98

I really don’t like red rooibos at all. Which is a bit of a shame because it has a lot of health benefits. However, I do LOVE its counterpart: green rooibos!

At first green rooibos doesn’t appear to be anything special: It’s yellowy green and smells a bit nutty. When brewed, it comes out to be a very nutty and fresh taste at the same time! It’s really enjoyable as a straight tea and it looks like it will be my to go tea when I just want something uncaffeinated and unflavoured.

This is really good, not bitter at all. It remind me of the taste of a really good green tea, a little bit sweet and no bitterness.

I’m really glad I have read the other review and decided to get some with my last DT purchase.

And it is good for your health!

Not too bad. I like this one. Vegetal taste, and nutty aroma.

I love this tea. I love it because it’s creamy, like I put milk and a hint of sugar, but I didn’t. It’s definitely a tea I’ll be keeping in my cupboard.

Quite nice, a bit of a fresher more lively flavour then the red.

A great light and refreshing drink. I actually brew this with a few pieces of cinnamon and ginger, and it tastes epic. The colour turns a bright red, as per its namesake “Red Tea”.

This Rooibos has a very delicate sweetness that happens as an aftertaste at the back of the tongue. This lightness makes it a great base to create hot or cold sweet beverages from. I imagine it would be perfect as a red “masala chai”.

At a great price, this one hits the spot. I try to keep a pitcher in the fridge all the time.

Rooibos is awesome for giving you energy or a midday pick-up without the use of caffeine. Great for any time of the day. It makes me happy to drink this. :)

Warm, sweet dried hay and leaves. Very comforting, I love drinking this before bed. It’s not astringent at all, rooibos never dries out my mouth as much as camellia sinensis teas do! I know that there’s cheaper sources of green rooibos tea out there, so I might try other brands before repurchasing DAVIDsTEA’s offering, but theirs is excellent. I actually oversteeped the leaves for far too long but it was still a sweet, smooth, satisfying cup!

#ProjectTeaWall

I’ve obviously had green rooibos before – but this was just my first time trying DT’s version of it. This has been the case with a lot of the straight/pure teas on my Project Tea Wall list; I wont have tried DT’s offering even if I’ve had it from another company. So, still crossing them off because only after I’ve tried the DT version is it completely honest of me to say that “I’ve tried every tea on the tea wall”.

I got this one as a hot latte for myself today on shift, and with some added honey as well because to be honest I was just craving something sweet and milky, and without caffeine and the list of rooibos/herbals left for Project Tea Wall is quickly dwindling, so options were limited…

Green Rooibos isn’t my favourite tea to drink straight; but I will say that it’s MUCH better than it’s red rooibos counterpart. This one is sweeter/lighter overall and the wood notes that do come through just seem fresher? So yeah, this is woody/grassy but more of a sweet dewy grass? Freshly grown Spring time grass, if that makes sense? It goes really nicely with the honey, and then the milk/latte format just makes it creamier and thicker. It’s a very nice fresh, and naturally sweet tasting combination overall.

Friendly reminder that I’m not currently numerically rating DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently seasonally employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Interesting, I don’t recall ever trying green Rooibos before, although I know I’ve had red Rooibos. Sounds like I might enjoy green better!

Agreed. To me rooibos in general (+ honeybush) teas are ones that I really like STRONG flavourings with.

YUM. I think this is the first rooibos I’ve had just by itself with no other flavouring – I really dig it! Perfect amount of sweetness. Unlike some other David’s teas I can truly feel good about drinking this one… no sprinkles or artificial flavours (or caffeine) to be found!!

I was pleasantly surprised with this tea. The liquor was a dusty red after a 4-5 minute steep. It’s a great caffeine free after dinner tea and very relaxing. The taste is very mild. I believe the malty flavour is one of the things that sets it apart from grassy Japanese greens.
