From DAVIDsTEA

David was in L.A. when he had his lemon-black-tea revelation. It was early in the morning, the sun was bright, the joggers beautiful. He took a sip of a citrusy black tea and dreamed of starting a tea shop all his own. A place where you could find the smoothest, most citrusy organic black tea on earth – with lemon oil, orange oil and real bits of zest. (Truly, La La Lemon makes anything seem possible).

I found this to be quite dark (as the base is a chinese black tea). It had good flavour but I wasn’t really a fan of it. The dry leaves smell incredible, but the citrus scent was lost with the almost molasses finish. I found the woodsy pine oil flavour interesting, but I wouldn’t have it again.

My co-worker brought this tea into work and I tried it there. I personally didn’t care for it. Granted, part of the reason is because I’m not a big lemon fan to begin with, but I found the tea too citrusy and strong (although, the “strong” issue may be due to my fault in leaving the teabag in for too long).

My first steep today was a bit long (about 4 minutes). Which meant my first cup was a little too bitter for me. The second steep was much better (about 3 minutes). The lemon flavour wasn’t overpowering, more of an after taste. It was a good choice for this morning’s cup.

My wife says it tastes like Pledge. I didn’t fully agree with her, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected; I was hoping for a lemon tea rather than a lemon-infused black tea.

As a hot tea, it acheives the three Bs: Bitter, boring and blah.

As an iced tea: it makes the gosh-darned best lemon black iced tea I have ever made! Too bad it just don’t really like iced tea…
