I’m about to head out the door to a friends house for a New Years Day Hoppin’ John. For those not in the know, Hopping John is a traditional southern good luck for the new year dish. One of my friends hosts a party each year with hopping john, gumbo, greens, and the most lovely company a hungover woman could ask for.

I’m taking Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride with me since I could use more fluids right now, and water just doesn’t sound appealing, and because I really like Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. It is rather annoying how much I like it, I’m going to have to stock up before it goes away.

Anyway, the roasted barley, vanilla, it’s all delicious. The downside is that I have to double bag it—the tumbler I’m making now requires 4 bags of tea! It is going to take me no time at all to go through what I have at that rate. The need to double bag is the only drawback to this tea.

Boiling 8 min or more

I love this too!! I can’t seem to find it around here at all this year, though. I’m tempted to order a few boxes online.

SunnyinNY

I have a box to try. I bought it & somehow I just haven’t tried it yet.

Ellyn

I sent you PM about sending you some of mine! It is just not my thing…

I’ve made this tea before and haven’t really been able to get into it. But I keep trying. Why? Because while it is steeping it just smells SO good! Like delicious sugar cookies with a hint of citrus. Also, I think that a lot of times that this tea ended up “weird” was due me doing other stuff and just forgetting that I made tea. The first time I think that I made the tea too weak. Then the next time I let it steep for too long. Another time I forgot about it for a few hours and let it get all cold. Total tea fail.

However… Last night I steeped this in a 16oz ceramic mug using two tea bags and boiling water for about 5-6 minutes. And you know what? It was delicious! The husband walked by and was like, “wow, what tea is that?! Smells like cookies!” I actually think that I need to try and grab another
box (or two) while I can still find it!

But still, while reading the tea ingredients on the box, one question remains: what exactly is “natural sugar cookie flavor”? Is there a sugar cookie tree out there somewhere that I don’t know about?!

gmathis

Maybe if you plant a few cookie sprinkles? :)

Mel

I just bought this tea! Sounds like a treat.

Split a pot of this with a friend tonight. Box is half gone, and I didn’t buy a backup. Tears.

Janefan

I have most of a box that I bought this Dec. Would you like me to send it to you? I am trying to “free my teas” this year and not hang on to tea I won’t drink. I didn’t care for it, so I just kept a few bags to try blending with something else since I do love the scent.

Bethany

Hah, I’m trying to “free my teas,” as well, but this is an exception since it’s limited edition. Would you be interested in a trade?

Janefan

Sure! I saw your list of Adagio sampler you’re looking to free: is the White Cucumber still available? I am curious to try it, or the Vanilla Oolong (2nd choice). Send me your address at AUSTENTATIOUS2003 GMAIL COM and I’ll get the SCSR out to you this week.

This is my favorite from Celestial Seasonings. It’s not the best tisane in the world, but for what it is (and what it costs) it’s a pleasant cup. It’s sweet (but not too sweet, like certain other CS blends that will remain unnamed), with hints of vanilla and citrus, and the mouthfeel is pleasingly creamy – almost buttery, even. To me, it’s more vanilla frosting than sugar cookie. Like so many flavored teas and tisanes, it doesn’t taste quite as amazing as it smells. As others have mentioned, it really needs two bags for the full blast of flavor (especially if you’re anti-sweetener like me). And although I’ve never tried it this way, I bet it’d be great with a splash of soymilk – maybe I’ll do that for my next cup.

Anyanka

I love mixing this one with an unflavored black tea.

greenteafairy

Oh, I’ll have to try that! I bet it would be good with an Assam.

caile

That sounds good!

Steep Information:
Amount: 1 teabag
Additives: none
Water: 1 flavia cup full of hot spigot water
Steep Time: a little over 5 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Smell: sugar cookie or shortbread cookie, vanilla
Flavor: citrus, sugary
Body: Light
Aftertaste: butter, shortbread
Liquor: golden honey, semi translucent

Gift from janefan, I have a feeling the air got to it a bit as the smell was weak and everyone else seems to have been hit by a string smell. However, the taste and aftertaste were truly a sugar cookie, very delicious! I am so glad I got to try this tea. My coworkers seem to love it too.

I really wasn’t too much of a fan of this one. It was a good herbal for a year that I’m avoiding caffeine in. I had the first cup and thought, “glad I tried that, I’ll try something new next year.” But really, I’ve found the trick is to use more than one tea bag. I’m using one of those small glass tea pots right now, and used three. I kindof wish I had tried four, though. So, apparently concentration is what makes this a good one for me.

rabbysmom

I’ll have to double up next time I have this. Good suggestion b/c it always seems little weak.

laurenpressley

Yay! I hope that works for you, too!

I have felt just off today so I needed something to pick me up and make me feel special. I put four tea bags in my little tea pot and it smells SO good. Like fresh baked sugar cookies. The flavor is pretty strong. Which is ok with me. Ohh I enjoyed this cup :]

I want to rave about this tea, but sadly, I cannot.

First off, the smell when you open the box really will bring to mind sugar cookies. And during brewing you will start craving sugar cookies.

After the first sip, I wasn’t sure what to think. And after the finishing the first cup I still wasn’t sure what to think.

I ended up making a second & I used a pinch of brown sugar to sweeten it. Nope. Didn’t do it for me. I get the smell of sugar cookies, but not much in the taste of the tea. It’s just plain to me. Nothing special.

Mercuryhime

I see you are also in NYC. Perhaps we can arrange a trade. My gingerbread spice for your sugar cookie. :) if we do it in person, we can save the postage. Let me know if you are interested.

SunnyinNY

Hi Mercury….sent you a message. :)

Camiah

I had to use two tea bags to get any flavor. That is my only complaint about it.

SunnyinNY

I was so sad because it really does smell delicious. I really wanted to like it. It was just so disappointing. I usually like CS teas, but this one didn’t work for me.

I’m seriously obsessed with this tea, and have cravings for it all the time. When I first got it I just didn’t know how to make it right. This is before I was really that into tea. Then a month or two ago I decided to try making it again. This time in my 24 ounce cast iron. I used 6 teabags, and 1 teaspoon of german rock sugar. I can’t remember how long I let it steep for? Probably about 10 minutes? I was hooked. It was soooo perfectly delicious. But I only had that one box. So I decided to save it for the next time I had a huge sweet craving late at night, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to buy any more in store for a while. I tried to put this tea to the back of my mind and just be patient…

Then a couple days ago I decided to make it again. 4 teabags in a 16 ounce tumbler. Steeped 15 minutes with a little under a teaspoon of german rock sugar. And that is when I became absolutely addicted to this tea. I have cravings for it constantly, but I only have 5 bags left in the box so I’m freaking out. Friday I ordered 6 boxes online, and I’m guessing it should be here within the next few days! I seriously cannot wait! I’m gonna let myself have some of this today because I know more should be arriving soon. :)

This tea makes me so happy; if they ever discontinue it I don’t know what I will do! Actually I’ve already decided that I will have to try to recreate it because I just can’t live without it.

OH and when my tea arrives in the mail I’m going to make my oatmeal with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so incredibly excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is definitely my top fave tea of all time right now. And it comes in a freaking tea bag!

I’m just really curious what the ‘natural sugar cookie flavor’ is in this. And can I get it in its raw form? Stock up for the end times????

Sorry all my posts today are kinda long and freaky because I’m seriously half asleep……. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
