From California Tea House

Golden Monkey Paw is a black tea made from the very young leaves and bud of new season growth. It originates from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province, China. With the same careful process as White Monkey Paw green tea, the tea leaves are hand picked with an artistic process to preserve the tea leaf form and then delicately steamed and dried. The leaves are then allowed a fermentation process which brings out the beautiful black and gold colors. These perfect, prized tea leaves in our California Tea House collection resemble a monkey’s paw, hence the name.

This sample i got from ifjuly loong time ago. I dunno why i didnt try it.

Today I decided to run side by side with Golden Monkey by H&S

This tea is lovely. Sweet, flavorful and simply nice. Rich with sweet potatoes and malt but not heavy.
H&S version is heartier, maltier and earthier. its very rich cup but today I think it was too rich for me. And earth flavor distracted me for some reason. some peppery notes emerged as it cooled at the end of the sip.
i resteeped both teas at@5min. Meh. Didnt care for either. Kinda flat and boring.

Im glad i finally tasted both, long overdue.
Thank you ifjuly for the awesome samples you sent me. Still havent finished your endless box ;-)

I like teas that stand out from the crowd, but not just if they are different. They have to be different with a VERY pleasing twist. This is a malty, hearty black tea that I can drink every day.

I’ve been drinking Golden Monkey Paw for about a year now and so far it’s my absolute favorite tea. I’m branching out and trying new teas, but this one has set the bar high.

The aroma smells very clean and pure right out of the bag. Its got a solid taste to it and I like drinking my black teas straight with no sweeteners, and this tea really hits the spot. It tastes really healthy. I steep no more than 2 minutes with 1 teaspoon per cup. I havent tried it iced yet, but if I do I might add a little lemon wedge.

This is unlike any other black tea I have had. It’s very complex and yet very smooth. I just had a cup at a friend’s tea party. I need to get some of my own.

Probably the best and very simple black tea I’ve ever had. I tried a second cup with cream just for fun, and it was good, but I think the first cup was best. I went back to California Tea House and they were out. I hope they get more soon!

I usually drink Oolong tea and an occassional flavored black. I tried this straight black not expecting to like it, but wow, I’m a believer! This is really good and has a full, complex flavor range for a black tea.
