Raspberry rooibos, good with milk or without

Rooibus, Raspberry

As a child of the 80’s, with an inherited vinyl collection and much beloved record player, crazy dancing to this Prince hit was always going to be inevitable. Just like music and vinyl, raspberries and rooibus are a magical combination. Some would say there is none other that compares.

Thanks to Dexter3657 for sharing some of this with me!

This smells delicious – like I’ve just squashed a raspberry between my fingers. It steeped up nicely and I taste very little rooibos in this cup. Having said that, I kind of wish there was more raspberry in it, even though I’ve added some Truvia to it already to see if I could ramp it up just a teensy bit.

I do however love the title, and so I’ll sip it easily tonight, thinking about the time a few years back that I splurged to get one Prince ticket right next to the stage while he was in Victoria, BC, and where he sang RIGHT TO ME and pointed… ah… even the women around me squealed and asked why he picked me. Dunno what I did, other than just sing along to every single song he played, except for the radtastic medley where they jumped from song to song so fast, my head spun and my heart vibrated.

unlogged sample sipdown :)

I’m always on the hunt for more rooibos teas that i slip into my rotation. I chose this one to try from bluebird because i am a fan of raspberry. I also wanted to see how their rooibos tastes since some companies have a more woodsy taste than others. This is not my favourite kind of rooibos but it IS quite tasty. The scent of this one is divine! raspberry deliciousness. I wonder how this would fare as a latte….. hmmm

I’ll start this tasting note by saying that I love the name of this tea. So great! Onto the tea itself.. the dry leaf smells of rooibos and tart raspberry. After water has been added, the raspberry scent still remains.

Sipping… this tea is surprisingly creamy! I was expecting there to be more rooibos + plain old raspberry, but this is more of a raspberry dessert tea. It might just be the characteristic of the rooibos… it’s not terribly woody, but creamy and sweet instead. A great pairing!

I think that I like the birthday cake blend a bit more than this one, but this is certainly yummy. Thank you, Bluebird Tea!

What can I say? I can’t say no to free samples. They sent me a nice assortment of teas, and oh so nicely packaged. I’m eager to try all of them. ^^

Mmmm this is one of those that keeps getting better and better as it cools. I don’t know why I’ve been so wary of raspberry flavored teas, because this is delicious. As it cools the raspberry flavor comes out more and more. It almost reminds me of raspberry yogurt. This was absolutely delicious.

Anyways, gonna hold off on stocking this until I try some of their other teas, but wow. What a great first impression.

I cold steeped this for more hours than I really want to admit. Probably about 30. I’m not going to rate it until I’ve tried it under different steeping parameters.
All in all I like it though. It’s very raspberry – maybe a hint candy raspberry rather than fresh raspberry. There is some of the rooibos there, maybe a bit too much for my taste, but that could be the long steep time.
I will be trying this hot steeped and then cooled next time. See how that changes things.
All in all, really pretty good.

I got this as a sample with my last Bluebird order and let me just say it smells AMAZING. It’s the most raspberry smelling of raspberry teas I’ve ever raspberried. It had that really fresh and fruity and natural smell that just screams amazing iced tea. So. I cold steeped about a 6oz cup for about 7ish hours and really impatiently waited.

And then it tasted like a big ole cup of rooibos with raspberry.

I’m not sure why I didn’t think it would. You’d think I’d seriously know better by now. (But it smelled sooo good and my hopes were so high). No review as fiance had to drink my disappointment. Sigh.

Thank you to Starfevre for this sample. I enjoyed it as a morning cup.

While it is fairly plain (typical rooibos notes, raspberry flavouring, something a bit creamy), it did make a nice cup of tea. I don’t have many rooibos blends in my cupboard right now and I find myself missing rooibos sometimes.

I love the name of this tea. I had a Prince interlude in my teenage years, and this takes me right back. I like raspberry teas in general, too, so it’s a win-win. The second of my pre-bedtime teas last night, I gave this one 4.5 minutes in boiling water. It smells delicious; fresh, juicy raspberry! To taste, more of the rooibos comes over than I would have liked, and the raspberry flavour is a bit muted. Not terribly so, but I really, really wanted to taste more of it. I feel like I could smell it more than taste it, which was a little disappointing. I’m obviously hoping that every raspberry tea will be like my much missed 52 Teas Raspberry Cream, but this one isn’t. It’s not bad, just…a little meh. Maybe some sugar will perk up my next cup?

52Teas Raspberry Cream was amazing. I’ve found two replacements so far – Raspberries & Cream from Market Spice and not Dolce Vita from RiverTea. Neither exactly the same, but the raspberry flavour is awesome.

Scheherazade

I’ve just received my first RiverTea order, and it contains a box of Dolce Vita! Really looking forward to trying it now :)

Thank you Dexter3657 for this one! I love trying the Bluebirds. This is actually like the Design A Tea Strawberry that I had the other day (also thanks to Dex). This is supposed to be raspberry though. After a three minute steep at boiling, there isn’t that much flavor, but it’s nice. Hints of raspberry. It just looks like flavored rooibos. I don’t see any raspberry pieces. No rooibos scratchy throat for this one. The second cup surprisingly had more flavor. This is nice, but it certainly doesn’t have the magic that almost every other Bluebird tea I’ve tried has had. This one seems too simple for them! I believe it’s not on the site now anyway.

Sidenote: Along with this tea, there have been two other Prince references in my life lately: the book I’m reading now and the book I finished a couple days ago (both have parts taking place in the 80s). Suppose I should go listen to some Prince…
