From Adagio Teas

Few things can pull off sweet and savory quite like coconut. And few teas can play with other flavors quite as seamlessly as a classic Ceylon. In one cup, you’ll get the dense, creamy texture of fresh coconut with the balanced brightness and tang of Ceylon black tea. This Coconut blend showcases a perfectly sweet, warm and aroma, as well as a soft finish. Such a well-blended flavor, it’s like they never existed without each other.

The coconut (Cocos nucifera) provides a high-calorie food in its sweet nutty white inner fruit, potable water from its hydrating natural liquid, fiber that can be spun into rope, and a hard shell that can turn into charcoal for fuel. Scientists using DNA discovered two distinct varietals: niu kafa, triangular and oblong with a large fibrous husk, and niu vai, a round form containing abundant sweet coconut “water” when unripe. They’re found in the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean countries proving to scientists that the coconut is a record of voyages of exploration, trade, colonization, and human cultivation.

Black Tea | High caffeine | Steep at 212° for 3 minutes.

Very good staple tea. I had coconut milk left over after making curry, and adding about 3 spoonfuls of coconut milk along with regular milk (16oz) really enhances the coconut flavor. Would certainly buy again 3oz quantities, unless there was a really incredible sale going on I might consider getting 24 oz.

Another one from meowster. I don’t love this. I had this back to back with a coconut white that was so much nicer. Like it definitely tastes like coconut, but I don’t love the way it tastes with the black. I just feel that a light flavor such as coconut needs to be with a milder tea. Just my opinion though. It does taste nicer once it’s cooled down.

It was ok, good for the sake of variety. The coconut smell is a bit too perfumey though.

This was an extra from Momo’s sale. I was kind of expecting the worst.. I’m not sure why, as Adagio flavored teas are spot on for me. I happen to like this one. It looks like two types of coconut are used here: the occasional sliver of coconut and the leaves must be infused with coconut flavor as there is a lot. Almost too much! It’s a little like suntan lotion but also like a coconut pie. I don’t mind the suntan lotion when I’m probably not getting enough sun anyway. I’m not sure how old this tea is but it doesn’t taste old… maybe a coconut tea that actually ages well! I love the black base that Adagio uses: a bit of a flavor bite while not quite stealing the show. A lovely copper cup from a Ceylon I actually like. I think all of the Adagio flavors have been tasty to me and they usually have a LOT of flavor.

I tried this as a base to make chai with tonight. As good of an idea it seemed to be, it’s not something I’ll do again. The coconut flavor is just too intense. It mutes the chai spices to the point that they’re hardly noticeable. Good lord.

Still delicious, though.

Sipdown! (35/371)

An oldie but a goodie. This tea is still one of my favourites. Now that I’m beginning to appreciate the base teas too rather than just the flavouring, it does kinda bug me that I can’t appreciate this tea without adding milk. It would be gorgeous paired with a really nice black tea, maybe something like a laoshan. However, it’s not that much of an annoyance as I am from the UK and was brought up on strong black tea with lots of milk. In this respect, it is like a traditional English tea with a twist, and I love it for that. Finishing up my small bag was made easier by the knowledge that I have accumulated 151 adagio points (love their points system, btw) and now have £15 worth of free tea to claim! Yay. This will certainly be making its way into that order, but it is a while off as my no buy continues. Will I ever make it?

This is very coconutty, but falls a bit flat. I don’t think it is due to the flavor, but I am starting to not love the black tea base used in these flavored teas as I branch out and try other brands. Flavored blacks used to be all I drank…I think I just prefer oolongs and pu erhs more. But if you enjoy other flavors that Adagio has to offer, this one is a solid choice if you also enjoy creamy coconut!

I adooore coconut so this was a must to try for me.

Scent-wise, this tea doesn’t disappoint. It’s coconut in the bag, as it steeps, in my cup. I could just sit and inhale this all day. Raw and dirty coconut. Yum.

I’ve tried a few of the flavored black teas from Adagio lately, and I think I need to just try their plain black ceylon- because I’m starting to think I dislike it in general. All of the flavored ceylon’s I’ve tried have been slightly bitter to me (ginger was the worst).

This is the least bitter of the flavored teas so far. The coconut seems to smooth off the tannin’s bite a bit more (while ginger in the ginger blend accentuated it). It also has a kind of after-taste of coconut that coats the tongue, which I kind of enjoy :)

Overall this isn’t my favorite tea, but I’ll finish off my sample happily. This is a great candidate for Butter tea. :)

I need to bring better (but not great) tea to work. This isn’t working out.
