From Adagio Teas

Few things can pull off sweet and savory quite like coconut. And few teas can play with other flavors quite as seamlessly as a classic Ceylon. In one cup, you’ll get the dense, creamy texture of fresh coconut with the balanced brightness and tang of Ceylon black tea. This Coconut blend showcases a perfectly sweet, warm and aroma, as well as a soft finish. Such a well-blended flavor, it’s like they never existed without each other.

The coconut (Cocos nucifera) provides a high-calorie food in its sweet nutty white inner fruit, potable water from its hydrating natural liquid, fiber that can be spun into rope, and a hard shell that can turn into charcoal for fuel. Scientists using DNA discovered two distinct varietals: niu kafa, triangular and oblong with a large fibrous husk, and niu vai, a round form containing abundant sweet coconut “water” when unripe. They’re found in the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean countries proving to scientists that the coconut is a record of voyages of exploration, trade, colonization, and human cultivation.

Black Tea | High caffeine | Steep at 212° for 3 minutes.

Just added half a teaspoon of this to a teaspoon of Night of the Iguana, added milk and honey and it made a really good chai. I wouldn’t drink this tea straight but it goes well with other teas.

i was craving something sweet and cold so i brewed this tea and added a dash of coconut milk. it was nice and refreshing but i feel like there could have been more of a punch…

Smoochety

Just saw your post here.. never thought of using coconut milk. Which brand do you use, fresh or canned, and how is it different/better than milk/cream?

With a little milk it is a lot better!

On first encounter, this seems to be another fairly solid flavoured tea from Adagio. Immediately upon opening the packet, the overwhelming scent is of coconut. It’s a bit fake-smelling, admittedly, but it’s identifiably coconut. There are even pieces of dessicated coconut visible among the dry leaves. So far, so good.

Brewed, this is much as you might expect. The black tea base is quite strong, but that’s not something I mind. In any case, it doesn’t overpower the coconut flavour, which is almost equally pungent. As with the scent, though, I’m struck by how artificial the coconut flavouring tastes. I can see for myself that there are actually pieces of dried coconut in the mix, but there must be something else also. For this reason, I can’t be as excited about this tea as I hoped I might be. There’s just something in the flavour that’s slightly plastic-tasting and off-putting. It’s not bad, by any means, though. It tastes of coconut, it’s a robust enough black tea, and it’s drinkable enough. It’s not going to change the world, or my tea drinking habits, but a sound flavoured tea for all that.

Lovely dessert tea. It’s definitely best with some sugar and a splash of milk – things I don’t normally add, especially the milk, but it’s creamy and smooth. Right now I’m drinking it with milk and sugar and rose added, and it’s just delightful.

This was a bit “meh” for me. I got this as a sample because I really do enjoy coconut. I don’t know what to say really. Perhaps I’ll revisit this later…

This smells gorgeous and very edible (almost like coconut cream pie which by the way you cannot buy in the UK :(). The loose leaves are curled into wonderful yet coincidental shapes and spotted amongst them are pure white coconut strips.

Lets see the basics:
Look: Brown…like a coconut shell
Smell – Coconut
Taste: Coconut with earthy tones.

There you have it, this looks, smells and tastes like coconut so if you want a tea that literally is what it says it is then here we have a winner. The balance is nice between the ceylon and the coconut, it’s not too strong or too weak but somewhere in the middle with no bad or bitter after tastes and no artificial sweetness.

Very enjoyable and relaxing.

I love the smell of coconut. It’s warm & inviting.

When I opened the bag on this tea, I let the coconut smell hit my senses. I even started eating some of the coconut shavings from the bag.

I love this tea hot with a little sweet kick. I add a little Sugar in the Raw or even a touch of vanilla agave. I have tried it with a splash of coconut creamer & it’s good.

I haven’t tried it cold….I probably should during the summer. Might make for a refreshing drink.

From the aroma of the leaves I did not think I would like this much, but I decided to try it anyway. (Hot, no milk, no sugar). The smell of the tea is strange, it smells very strongly of coconuts, but the flavor is mild. It tastes like coconuts, but it is not overpowering flavor like you think it would be based on the smell.

There is an aftertaste, it is sweet. I cannot identify what it is, but I like it. I’ll update more after I finish the pot.

Update:

So this tea, like all teas, got cold after a little while, and the taste of coconut became stronger and the aftertaste was more prevalent. I did not like this, but I did enjoy it hot. Worth a try.
