Tea of the Week for August 20, 2018!

When I went into my tea studio to create the caffeine-free tea for August, I actually had a completely different idea in mind; however, I realized that I didn’t have the ingredients I needed for that idea (I thought I did – but no!) So, after arriving into the tea studio and ready to work and I realized I didn’t have the stuff I needed to create the tea I had planned on – I had to do some quick thinking. I grabbed the honeybush and strawberries, marshmallow root & vanilla bean and I started blending.

Now that I sit here, sipping on this, I’m reminded the ‘famous’ Walter Bishop’s Strawberry Milkshake honeybush blend. It tastes a lot like that blend – but it’s a bit … more vanilla than the Strawberry Milkshake. This reminded me more of a strawberry sundae. Like vanilla ice cream topped with strawberries. And – YUM! It’s so good.

This is good served as a hot tea – I found it to be creamy and sweet. The berry flavor comes forward toward the finish of the sip. But it’s even BETTER as an iced tea. The vanilla is creamier and the strawberry flavor is more pronounced. It’s good either way, but much better as an iced tea so I highly recommend trying it that way!

organic ingredients: honeybush, strawberries, marshmallow root, vanilla bean & natural flavors

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challengeSaturday, February 27th: National Strawberry Day Tea #3

oh, I forgot to post this yesterday:
From TreeGal!  Thank you so much!  I had this one last night with a second steep tonight.  Going through my no-caff list, I realized I hadn’t written a note for this one yet.  So it’s a necessary strawberry day tea!  First, marshmallow root for the win!  The flavor isn’t obviously strawberry (well, this is already not fresh from 2018…)  But I like the simplicity of strawberry, marshmallow, vanilla.  However, it’s very light on any of the elements so I can see why many aren’t thrilled with this blend.  I’m glad to have a sample around though!
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons //  18 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 14 min steep

The main flavor here is from the woody base, which isn’t the tastiest. There’s a little bit of red fruitiness in there as well, though in some steeps, it’s difficult to detect. This would have been better as a green rooibos blend. Then the fruit could shine more. As it is, it just tastes like an okay rooibos/honeybush with a hint of fruit. It’s really not that flavorful at all no matter how I steep it. That’s a shame because the name sounds so good.

Sip down.

Today begins a stretch of at least 7 days where the temp will not get above zero. Except maybe Saturday. That is forecast as 0. This is Fahrenheit. The low tonight is forecast as -23, and the rest of the next 7 days is as bad. Next Thursday will be a high of -15 and a low of -30. That’s as far as the forecast goes, but I seriously doubt temperature will suddenly zoom up to the 20s above zero the next day. I am guessing we will get above zero in about 9 or 10 days. I am actually dreading this cold snap. A little cold weather doesn’t actually bother me. But I’m getting older! I don’t want more winter! We just finished a blizzard, and another one is expected on Sunday-Monday. There is nothing for it but to run out and start the car every few hours to keep the battery charged. That, and drink tea.

This tea pouch is now sadly empty. I enjoyed this one. I enjoy all the honeybush teas from 52 Teas. Sorry to see this one go, but now I am in the mood for something spicy and warm. I’ll go rummage through the drawer to see whag speaks to me.

I really want to like this one, but I just don’t. The first time I made it following the recommended directions RE amount (plus a bit extra), time, and temperature, and it just tasted like vaguely floral boiled water. I made it again, using 3x the recommended amount, and it still tasted like boiled water. It did have more fragrance this time, and I could get strawberry from it and yes, maybe a bit of ice cream. This just really didn’t do it for me, though.

Day 1 with my parents and it’s a long one. Had to do a little running around to buy a car seat, hit Costco and some other places. Home now and pulled this tea out to enjoy while my dad figures out his new insta pot lol

So excited that 52 teas is going to have a vanilla black in their permanent collection. Now I just need a few more teas to be there that’s want, so I can plCe another order. Like this tea. While I don’t always love the honey bush 52 teasuses, I’ve come to figure out how I like drinking it and with the strawberry deliciousness of this one it’s justright for a quiet evening cuppa.
