149 Tasting Notes
Shou is right, this Pu-Erh is quite special. I’m not a big fan of pu erhs, and less of a fan of shous. I can appreciate that it doesn’t all smell like fish….but really not on my re-order list.
Camphor is the perfect way to describe it, with a chalky after taste.
Preparation
There isn’t much difference that I can taste between Teavivre’s “Superfine” and “Premium” grade. I also find their naming system a little confusing, but I guess it is hard to market a tea as 3rd/4th best?
This is a “dragonwell”. edited Not really special, or any great notes to detect. I guess my other problem is that it is more expensive than it should be.
Preparation
I’m sorry for that our naming system made you confused. Teavivre’s “Superfine" grade is higher than “Premium”, and the highest quality is “Nonpareil” grade. And we can promise that this tea is from XiHu area.
Thanks for your response. Where in the Xihu area is it from? Is there any more information about the grower? I would be very curious about why this tea tastes so different from other Dragonwells I have had.
You can check this link(http://www.teavivre.com/premium-dragon-well-green-tea/) and click “More Info”, then you will find there’s a map, it shows where is Our Long Jing Green Tea produced. Hope this will be useful.
A little heavy on the peach. And its not really real peach aroma either. Its those peach-o gummies that were so delicious when I was younger…and have now lost some of their appeal.
Its also got a faint smoky element that I wasn’t really expecting. As smoky isn’t really something I associate with peach or jasmine…I guess it is from the tea. And it isn’t a heavy aroma, just reminds me more of the gunpowder green.
Preparation
Yuck. :(
I’m giving this tea a low rating for several reasons. 1.) I found jasmine flower pieces in it. This is a sign that it was not carefully scented 2.) Too much jasmine. I can’t taste the tea at all 3.) It just isn’t that good.
Jasmine Pearls is one of my favorite teas. So I don’t know if it is the level of perfumery that this tea has, or what, but it really makes me feel nauseous.
Preparation
White teas, and silver needle in particular, are always a struggle for me. They remain fresh for such a short period of time, and afterwards the flavor profiles just completely deteriorate.
All I can taste is stale hay. Maybe a hit of a daisy…but really not worth the money.
Preparation
^ agreed. I had one though that completely changed my perception of them, so I probably hold them all to an un-fair standard.
I’ve also had some good silver needle teas from Sri Lanka. Those were a treat! I could taste notes of tropical fruits.:/ I feel bad about a bad review for “freshness” as it is so late after harvest. Except that I had a pretty delicious silver needle from Camellia Sinensis a couple weeks ago that was very nice.
Teavivre’s packaging seems to be so focused on freshness, that I guess it could either be their warehouse or the tea grower.
Not at all what I expected. A full mouth feel black tea…that reminds me of salted, toasted peanuts.
I haven’t had any peanuts in ages, so maybe my tongue is playing tricks on me, but really this is what it reminds me of.
The tea is slightly acidic and could do with some sweetness, but a pleasant overall experience.
Preparation
This is what I like to find in a Tie Guan Yin. Beautiful floral notes of gardenias and jasmine. This one carries a bit more vegetal notes when I taste the tea than I was expecting. But still, a good tea through and through.
Preparation
To quote a wise person, “Oooh!” This was a pleasant surprise. Lovely caramel sweetness, with just the right amount of spice.
Lovely long leaves, with a good heady aroma. This is a good Chinese black tea.
Preparation
I’m a little let down, because certainly teavivre has bragged enough about this tea. And it is alright. Is it the best? no. Does it taste like a pre-ming qian? no. Does it taste like a dragonwell? yes.
I guess what irritates me is the “Non pareil” label they have given the tea. I’ve certainly had better.
A nice salty sweetness, but really not as complex as it needs to be.
